“amazing cant fault it.”
Reviewed July 13, 2009

i travelled there with my friend and hoe kids age 12 and 15. The rooms were lovely and clean the food was good and lots of choice the staff were great and very helpful. We were there 2 weeks and i could of stayed longer only went to the town once but got too much hassle so we never went back. Our room was next to the relaxation pool so we just stepped out of our room and onto sunbeds which there was plenty of, our pool waiter was called bob the builder and he kept us topped up with drinks all day. One day we had a burst pipe in our bathroom and they fixed it immediatley and then management came to check a few times to make sure everything was ok. My friend and i had a spa treatment which was inexpensive and very relaxing and well worth it. All round very good place to stay and well worth the money.

Before I get started, what or who decides when a resort deserves a 5 star rating? We've been to 5 star in Jamaica and Cuba and both felt infinitely better, even the Movenpick in Taba had a better feel about it. The Albatros has all the facilities of a 5 star but I think it could be better run.
We booked this as a last minute getaway so the only research we did was on here, and maybe took too many of the positive ones and disregarded the negatives ones. Do this at your peril.
In brief this place is great for families and those with teenagers, the kids activities are excellent and the diving is great, though can be hazardous depending on the sea conditions, in the week we were there it was only 'white flag' once the rest was 'Red' (with care) choppy or 'Black' (forbidden). You can snorkel in some of the the shallow areas but take adequate footwear when paddling (not flip flops)
But let me start at the beginning, We were delayed at the airport (no fault of the hotel) so got to the hotel at around 2.00 in the morning, We weren't expecting much of a welcome at that time of night, the cool drink, the cold towelsetc that others had spoken of on here. The first impression was good, a grand entrance drive with the hotel built either side of it, the main hotel to the right and a smaller self contained resort which housed the 'relaxation pool and hot pool (more of this later) to the left . We were met by a rather tetchy receptionist who gave the impression we were a bit of an inconvenience to him. We signed in and were told that a porter would take us and our bags to our room, The porter was very friendly and helped us to our room with our bags and we tipped accordingly. Note: take lots of pound coins or dollar bills (it'll work out cheaper due to the exchange rate.) a tip goes a long way at the pool, in the bars and in the restaurants and at the airport (even the police/security aren't against taking a gratuity.
We had emailed in advance and asked for a refurbished room, as someone on here had advised, but we didnt get one. Although clean enough it was pretty tired looking and the balcony did look over the childrens play pool. That aside it was comfortable and clean enough and as we only use the room as a base so decided to stay put. which brings me back to the smaller resort complex on site. Why not have that area just for couples, the kids would be nearer their play areas and we could have relaxed in a quieter atmosphere, and it wasn't just a case of us going over there for the day, families with children who were staying in that section stayed aound that pool. Don't get me wrong, the fact that there were children there is not a reason for us to mark this resort down, that was our fault for not doing more research. We weren't disturbed much by the noise but it was always in the back ground.
Next point, and one that i'm surprised was only mention once in the other reviews we read, is that the hotel is directly under the flight path of Sharm airport, not a major nuisance but worth noting, and they fly all day and most of the night.
Food...... adequate, I think that best describes it, there was plenty of it and a lot of choice, but some of the concoctions they came up with were a bit weird, chicken fried in egg for example, and a lot of it was recycled from whatever was left from the previous meal. The cooking stations were some distance apart so any thing you had cooked for you was cold before you managed to gather all the other bits and pieces which were also spread over two buffet halls, and don't get me started on puddings. I have yet to find an all inclusive resort that does decent puddings that aren't sponge based. and the mousse dished they served, all pretty colours and decorations, pink ones, green ones, yellow ones, orange ones, and they all taste the bloody same..... of nothing. But thats not just this resort, all of them. I just felt i needed to say it, I like my puddings. Someone needs to sort it out ;o).
By the way both of us had the 'bug' if you get my drift, my wife worse than me. Not too much of an inconvenience (excuse the pun) and others we spoke to had it mildly too.
Overall the staff were great, you'll find one that you tip on a regular basis and they'll make sure you want for nothing. There is always cleaning going on al over.
A normal gripe now, not enough bloody sunbeds by the pool. They were pretty limited, and people (German and English) were getting up at 5.30 to grab the best of them and all were gone by 7.30. There were no spares to set up in the open spaces so people were setting up towels on the grassy areas dotted around. The beach usually had a few available but its a 500m hike along the jetty to the sea for a swim or 300m hike to the pool. The beach isn't that good for kids either, not a lot of water to play in and what there is has sharp coral and stone all around.
Final gripe, we booked for 7 days (7 whole days) but had to be out of our room at 12 on the last day. So only got 6.5 days. If we wanted to keep the room till we were picked up it would cost us 50 euros extra, so in our case we had 10 hours to fill with out means of freshening up (except the pool showers) no hair dryers etc, bad all round really.
I won't be recommending this hotel to friends mainly because our friends are of the age group that don't have kids and are looking for a quieter resort. Young couples too will find it a great holiday there were a lot in their early twenties when we were there. Theres a nightclub on site too.
A nice hotel but not to our tastes.
We will be going back to Movenpick Taba next year.

from the reviews we had read it seemed like just an OK hotel; but it was so much more better than we ever thought.
it was a girlie holiday (4 of us; 2 rooms) - just under £420 for a week (31/06/09-8/07/09) -teletext.com
before our holiday i emailed the hotel to ask for refurbished rooms with a balcolny and thats what we got! the rooms were so nice with such a lovely egyptian vibe. the bathroom was great and air-con was a life saver! the rooms we got were def a 5*!
rooms were cleaned everyday with towels being renewed aswell! and two bottled water refilled in the fridge aswell.

there was one main downside to the holiday and that was 3/4 of us gettin very poorly. had the runs as well as a fever (probably from the switch of cold water from the pool to the scorching heat) anyways food was very nice although my apetite was gone mabe due to the heat. had a variety of choices from chinese, pizza, pasta, rice, speghetti, crepes, chips etc etc...
the food at the beach bar was yuM! (hot dogs, burgers, spaghetti etc) but it was soooo hot that we made only one trip to the beach. the rest of the time we were jamming by the beach or on excursions (cairo, para sailing, quad biking, snorkelling) - hotel excursion prices are BUMP! £68 to go cairo by bus!- ended up finding it for £30. best to surf online b4 holiday for excursions rather than wait and book through hotel.
went to naama bay (25 mins away) a couple of times (only £5 on way if you haggle- cabs outside hotel) and the old market was about £6 (very cheap!!)

**best snorkeling is to go on an excursions- was just an amazing experience and might aswell try out the quad bikinG while your there (was freaking awesome!)

overall it was a great holiday, wouldnt really recommend to go during june-aug as its the hottest time (40-50 degrees!!!) but maybe in the future i'd return to this great location.

I have just returned from my second visit to this hotel and have booked to go again in October. My family and I have had a great time and can't wait to return.
The hotel is excellent value for money and barring a few minor details, for what you pay to stay for 2 weeks, you can't come near to the quality and service when staying in Europe.
Most of the people in our party were ill for a day or 2 during the holiday but I am told that the bottled water is high in Potassium and some other minerals. This is the likely cause and not the food. The rooms are large, pretty clean and the beds are comfortable unlike some hotels.
There is always plenty to do during the day and you can be as active or lazy as you like with their excellent animation team.
The evening entertainment is quite limited but this is due to the need to satisfy the variety of nationalities in the hotel. All of the staff are excellent and can't do enough for you. Salah, Hanny and their colleagues from the lounge bar were very helpful and kind to all of my family and I look forward to seeing them in October.

arrived at 2am,tired out.was met by miserable rude reception staff, who were really not going to go out of there way to make us welcome..tired out and wanting to go to bed another two hours later our luggage arrived at our room,we then relised that our room only had 3 beds,,,,but we are a family of 4!next morning went to reception and a bed arrived 7 hours later....bit cramped up but we managed, our room overlooked a building site nevermind it was clean, although the bathroom was in desperite need of a update eg: old and worn. The food was un apitising and slop served up in cattlemarket type restraunts the seven of us never ate together because of the queues of people waiting and hovering around the food areas was pathetic. Cuttlery plates and cups was dirty rugs in the restraunt covering pipes were constantly tripped over by many. breakfast was ok but only 2 men cookin omletes and fried eggs so the wait was endless; waitors worked really hard but the managment staff were rude and ignorant. Entertainment was dreadful for a 5 star hotel we just made our own on the plus side the pools were lovley and the weather was great would never ever recommend this hotel to anybody unless they want to waste there hard erned cash.

Just returned from the Royal Albatros hotel and i must say that it was the best holiday i have ever had. We (my family and me) made some friends in the lounge bar Salah and the boys are very polite and catered to our every need after that holiday we considered them as friends. We found that the food was delicious, we loved the fact that they had different foods from all over the world (on different days) e.g French night, British night ect. The rooms were comfortable and had a good view and always emaculate. The entertainment was entertaining in the sence that if your having a great holiday, you don't mind whats on. If you like snorkeling then where you are staying is 5mins away from paradise i wont get into detail but it is an amazing experience, oh and don't forget your suncream. So if you like to be spoilt on holiday then this is the place for you. Flights to Cairo and Luxor are crazy at the airport but are well worth the trip, £150 for a full day of seeing the wonders of the world and much more are well worth the money even if you do have to get up early.
I would certainly return to this hotel again for all of the friendly atmosphere of such a welcoming staff.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Rooms were big and kept very clean. Clean towels, rooms cleaned, beds made and big bottles of fresh water every day. I have never seen such hard working staff in all my life as here! They work from the crack of dawn till last thing at night...including the room attendants. Such pleasant staff here and so welcoming. Always smiling and happy to help and always ready for a conversation! Good entertainment....apart from the dreadful tuneless Russian singer that is put on(mostly at the beach bar in the evenings) to entertain the Russian guests. Much has already been written about the food. My husband enjoyed the Tagine Restaurant which serves Arabic food (which they describe as Oriental). This seemed the least frequented of the restaurants by the guests. Cocktails at the bar are good and the measures very generous; watch out for the Sphynx cocktail !! Our room faced out towards the exterior, away from the pool, and was quiet day and night. Air conditioning is excellent. Security guards patrol the perimeter of the hotel giving you a secure feeling. The hotel has its private beach with a jetty that takes you out to the reef and the deeper water, so ideal if you want to do snorkelling. The beach is a little quieter for sunbathing than the pool area and we managed to get a bed every time we went there, even in the afternoon. There is a beach bar that serves food in the day, soft drinks and cocktails and this is included in the all inclusive. My husband used the gym a couple of times and was impressed by it. There is a cash point on site, which dispenses small value notes as well as high; this is useful in order to get 10 and 20 Egyptian pound notes for tips. You go out of the main door, to the right, follow the wall around and you will find it in a recess. Also a pharmacy at the hotel....very useful if suffering Pharoah's revenge ! We had a lovely new flat screen TV and this had satellite channels with 2 excellent English film channels. There is a small fridge in the rooms too. Air Conditioning was great and very welcomed . Tipping is the norm in Egypt and we found that we got excellent service form all staff from this. We did not have to stand at the bar as our drinks were bought over and keep on coming and any querey at reception was dealt with immediately. The weather in Sharm late June, early July is sooo hot...so be warned! Everywhere in the hotel was immaculately clean. Finally, this hotel is quite a way from the centre of Sharm..Naama Bay, so if you want to be in the centre of the nightlife, then this is not the \hotel for you. It is a quiet outer area of Sharm in Nabq Bay. Oh! and there is a supermarket and gift shops just outside the Hotel as Hotel shops are a little pricey! If you go out of the main gate of the Hotel and turn left, just a few yards up and aross the central reservstion to the right (the roads are very quiet here!) there are several gift shops owned by a lovely and honest Egyptian guy named John, from who we bought some lovely, well priced gifts and who got us a good price for a suitcase as mine had been broken on it's travels at the airport! We thoroughly recommend this Hotel!! :-)
