I have stayed in Sharm twice over the last few years and highly rate it as one of my favourite places on the planet so far. I love the culture, the people, the food, the scenery and, being a diver for a number of years, of course the Scuba Diving and Free Diving.
Added to the fact that its within 5 hours of flying from the UK means it is highly accessible for those who are not keen on the idea of long haul flights.
It is massively unfortunate and upsetting that Sharm suddenly has the bad press due to the Shark attacks, and of course it is horible for the families concerned, but that shouldn't stop people from going. Any diver with a small amount of knowledge for these wonderful fish I know is keen to swim with them more so than ever before.
As I say, I have stayed in Sharm twice, both times I went alone and I know and have met plenty of others that have also done this. It really isn't an intimidating place, even for female travellers or holiday makers wanting some of that amazing sun. The easy thing about Egypt is that the local people are so friendly and inviting, it is within our culture unfortunately to be so closed and think that because someone we don't know wants to say hello, we automatically think they are wanting something from us ie money. This really isnt the case there, or at least not for the people I have met. Everyone is wlling to chat and offer advice, just simply for some good conversation in return. I can honestly say I have met some incredible friends in Sharm, those who will totally go out of their way for me.
There is of course so many other things you can see, try and do whilst in Sharm or even indeed Egypt that is not related to the Red Sea, including Quad Biking, the Market Trips, even going to the Pyramids at Giza in Cairo (which really is an absolute must, such a surreal experience). There is of course a huge choice of restaurants and bars in the area. The best thing to do is get out there and explore. Although The Camel Bar is always a good place to start the night off relaxing whilst watching the wrld go by. The both times I have been, or indeed times I have had friends or even friends of friends visiting Sharm, I have always recommended a company called Sinai Voyage. Sinai Voyage is run by a couple of guys who I have known some time now, Mody and Cheburashka. It is on the right hand of Top Choice(Sharm Bride)Hotel, beside the Supermarket and Boots in front of the Sharm Grand Plaza Resort,
Or check them out on Facebook, Sinai Voyage.
I am aiming to get back to Sharm hopefully mid this year and see the guys along with a few of the resident Shark! Whoo hoo!
