Tamra Beach
Ranked #7 of 33 Hotels in Nabq Bay
Reviewed November 27, 2013

We stayed at Tamra Beach from 13 to 20 November 2013 (our first experience of Egypt and All Inclusive).

On first arriving at the hotel around 6pm the reception staff were courteous and helpful whilst we signed in and then we were taken with our baggage to our room that was in the 6000’s block (we stayed in 6111).

Our room was more like an apartment with a small lounge area with a built in sofa and coffee table. From there you walked up a couple of steps to the bedroom area which had a super king-size bed and bedside tables. There were a couple of wardrobes and vanity unit, built in safe and small fridge (with a bottle of water in it). Leading off from the bedroom was the bathroom area – bath, washbasin in an alcove, separate stand alone shower and room containing a toilet and bidet. Overall the room felt big, it was clean and so was the bedding and towels etc. The cleaner came in once a day and we left a couple of dollars tip each morning and were rewarded with various bits of towel art as well as a nicely turned down bed and a clean room. From the bath you could open a little window and see the sea.

The first evening we ate on the terrace above the restaurant. Because of the troubles in Egypt i.e. Cairo, a number of countries had pulled their Nationals out of Egypt and Tamara Beach had suffered because of this. There were probably only about 30 guests staying in the hotel when we first arrived (English, Russians and Ukrainians). I think it would be fair to say that the staff outnumbered the guests! The food was edible and consisted of a soup, a pasta dish, a meat dish, a fish dish, some vegetables, breads, basic salad (lettuce, tomato and cucumber) and sweets in the form of cakes and fresh fruit. The problem is that when you have only 30 guests it is difficult to provide a more varied selection of dishes. It was nice to look out across the Red Sea and Tiran Island and it felt very much like a la carte dining with the very attentive waiters.

We slept well that night and went for breakfast the next morning in the Poolside bar. There was the usual selection of cereals, meats, cheeses, tea, coffee and fruit juices (Continental Style). You could also have a fresh omelettes and crepes cooked.

Lunch al a Buffet Style was served in the Beach Bar that again had a wonderful outlook over the Red Sea/Tiran Island. Again the food was edible if not so varied.

We ate like this and enjoyed the 2 to 1 waiter service until the Saturday when around 150 Italians arrived. The main restaurant complex was then opened and things began to move up a gear! We were a bit disappointed that the Poolside Breakfast, Beach Lunch and Restaurant Terrace Dinner arrangement had come to an end but this was far outweighed by the increase in food choices and the new Italian Chef (from Sicily). We began to get lots more of everything – for instance instead of the basic salad stuffs there must have been 6 different types of salad, much more fresh breads and breadsticks, more pasta dishes (including pasta cooked whilst you wait), meat and fish cooked on a griddle plate to your liking, more vegetable dishes, more sweets and on our last day freshly made Bombolone (a fried donut containing confectioners custard – out of this world).

Haven't commented on the Spa as we didn't use it - but we were told it is a wonderful place by some other guests that did use it.

Some well deserved “thank yous” to:

Mr Ashraf and his team of waiters including; Waled, Amr, Ahmed and Khaled – “as-salam-o-alaikum” and “shukran” to you all.

Mr Negm (which means “Star”) and you were Sir. Always a pleasant smile and a joke. Also a big thank you to your Bar Staff, nothing was too much trouble for them.

Mr Yasser Hussein the General Manager (a real style Fashionista) who was a charming and pleasant man.

Cheryl who is in charge of Customer Relations – again nothing was too much trouble for her and was always on hand to help.

Last but by no means least, our favourite Animator Miss Tina (Valentina) who used to get me and Eddie up to play all sorts of games and to translate the Italian shows for us in the evenings. Ciao to the Italian Animators Bepe, Massimilliano and Dario!

Having read some of the previous Trip Advisor reviews there seems to be a lot of moaning about ignorant Italians and Russians (although they were mostly Ukrainians staying) but we found everyone to be friendly, happy to try and converse with us in English and we to them in very poor Italian and even worse Ukrainian/Russian. Sometimes it’s difficult for us to converse with other nationalities, but sometimes it’s just as difficult for them to converse with us and a smile and an attempt at trying to say hello in their language (even if it is very poorly) is a good icebreaker. After all isn’t that why we all go on holiday to visit new places and to meet new people.

All in all we had a very relaxing week and were sorry to leave at the end of our stay. Would we visit Tamara Beach again – a very definite “Yes”.

Both my wife and myself would like to thank both management and your staff for a wonderful holiday under difficult circumstances. We did not know before we travelled that the hotel had closed down on August 25th until the beginning of November due to the internal troubles within the country.

On arrival (7th November) we received a wonderful greeting from reception staff and shown to our room. The room was comfortable, clean and very spacious and after unpacking we went to have our evening meal. Walking through the well maintained gardens to the restaurant we thought it strange that we saw no other guests, we found out at the hotel only had 26 guests booked in for the next few days, but all the staff in the restaurant showed great attitude and professionalism with perfect service.

Over the next few days more guest started to arrive and so did more staff and that included the animation team.

By the end the end of our second week everything was running smoothly from the bars and restaurant to the beautifully manicured gardens.

You are obviously doing something right due to the number of returning guests and from our point of view we will be one of those to make a returning visit in the near future.

Thanks to every one

This hotel lacks the basic amenities expected. The rooms are dull tired and smelly. Bedding and mattresses had seen better days alongside the towels and furnishings. Air con noisy. The food provided lacking in selection. Indeed it was difficult to select a decent meal and we were not fussy eaters. The hotel was empty of guests and as a cost saving exercise all meals were taken at the open air roof top restaurant. Food was cooked and kept warm in heaters, but was cold when you plated it. Wine never offered you had to ask for it. Drinks in small plastic cups, tasteless orange juice or water provided. Lunch the same as dinner, poor and minimal, overcooked sloppy food.
Breakfast was served in a bar area that looked like a 6th form common room. The food was repetitive and awful. The breakfast consisted of a few cakes and cold meats and cheese. This area also served as a dinning room and at night time the staff would close the door so that it looked shut, the entertainment staff and some waiters sat watching inappropriate films. The hotel offered a few pieces of bread with tomatoes or bite size pizzas for pre dinner snacks. Two plates for all ! All restaurant areas and the al la carte closed.
I was informed by the staff that the hotel was shut, but it was still taking bookings. This was evident by the lack of food and skimping to cut corners at every level in order to minimize costs and save money at the expense of the guest staying at the hotel. We moved hotels after a few days as we could not stand the poor food, poor rooms and lack of commitment of the management of the hotel to talk us seriously. The tour guide offered no real help and infarct wanted us to pay more to stay at the same star hotel in another area. Without any help from the guide we visited another hotel and booked in person and paid for the remaining nights in cash and never looked back.
This hotel does not provide wi fi, telephone connections from the rooms and tvs are not world wide channelled. Prepare for dark coloured water from the bath and shower which makes you feel dirty instead of refreshed. No room service for food as stated.
I have travelled extensively and stayed at many different hotels and resorts, this hotel made me feel that I was asking for the impossible and being demanding, when I only expected and wanted what is normal for the type of hotel it has been advertised as and to enjoy my holiday. I cannot recommend staying here and would never stay here again even if it was for free. I did not have a holiday here I felt that I was an inconvenience.

I have nothing bad to say about my two weeks at this hotel. Everything was well run and clean and the hotel and beach were lovely . I had a sea view room and the view out of the window or from a lounger on the patio is something I shall never forget.

Wish I would of read the reviews before booking this hotel. I have no complaints what so ever about the hotel. The gardens are glorious, the staff are friendly and happy to interact, the options of pool's are excellent and the food is amazing. The private beach is stunning with an option to snorkel just off the jetty. The sea leaves a pool of water which heats up throughout the day feeling like a hot bath. Access to other towns and shops outside of the resort is easy with taxi's available directly outside of the hotel. The hotel is of course Italian based which ruined my partners and myself's entertainment during the evenings. We loved the Italian food but not so much the Italian way of life. We found them to be quite rude and actively avoided us once they realised we were English. As for the Italian staff they attempted to communicate with us the best way possible which was very welcoming towards the end of our holiday. Once we had finished our evening meal the resort offered theatre and show type entertainment which was all in Italian therefore we had no idea what was going on and resulted to playing cards most of the nights there. If you are looking for a relaxing, early night holiday I would recommend this hotel. If you are slightly more lively and would appreciate a dance or would like to join in the entertainment I would not recommend this hotel. As already stated we found the Egyptian staff friendly and helpful, the hotel was highly maintained and always clean. The only issue was the lack of opportunities for English holiday makers and the manor of the majority of the Italians.
Perfect weather, views, food, excursions and staff. We would definitely return to Sharm El Sheik but definitely not this specific hotel.

Dear Reviewer,
Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to write your comments, it is always great to get feedback from our guests. It gives us great pleasure knowing that you thought the staff were happy and helpful as they are here to satisfy your needs to make it more enjoyable and that the hotel gardens are glorious. We are please to here that you thought the hotel food was amazing. I am sorry that overall you left with a negative impression of Italian guests staying in the hotel, we would hope that guests see this as a positive aspect of their holiday stay to meet other guests from around the world and share their holiday experiences. As you mentioned in your review The hotel caters for a large number of Italian guests, the Tour Company of Eden Village have employed the Animation Team which the activities and shows are provided by as you mentioned in your review guests can join in with there daily animation program and we are glad you enjoyed. I hope this goes some way towards answering the points you raised in your review and once again thank you for your feedback.
