“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2011

This was our first holiday in Egypt and the hotel was recommended to us from friends who had been on a previous holiday. The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. All of the staff from reception/bars/ pool/entertainment/chefs/room service etc were very helpful and always smiling and happy. Some of the food was repeated but there was an alternative added every day to vary the diet, really good food and service. We had the choice to play water sports/ darts/aerobics daily. There were people who came around asking for trips/ saunas/gyms etc but if we hung up the do not disturb sighn they politely left us be. The staff on the pool bar Amir and ahmed were were amazing, they made us very welcome and were exceptionally warm and friendly. Thank you both for making our family holiday very happy x

Good grief.....never again will i visit this place! We booked through Thomsons, AI, for 12 nights. 2 Adults, 5 & 10 year old kids. If you haven't yet booked, i should move on from Egypt, and think of somewhere else, if you have, make sure you read this, and do not dismiss my comments lightly.

The good: lovely hotel, looks well. A bit tired in areas and not as new and shiny as it looks in the brochure. Good pool area and slides, most (not all) staff are friendly. The weather is faultless in October, 80 + daily. Goood tan to be had.

The Bad: Sun bathing by the pool you will get CONSTANTLY pestered by in house spa staff asking you to book a massage, spa treatment etc, scuba sales men, hairdresser, newsagent, restaurant staff . And i mean every 10 mins, its un-tolerable, and unacceptable. The towel hut has 'do not disturb' signs you can put on your bed to display, but they ignore them. Short of playing dead they will still have a go even if they have asked you for the 20th time that day.

I got dysentery, and paid a visit to the doctor on day 4. Now, when i say dysentery, i mean dysentery. they will give you all this garb about temperature, alcohol, air conditioning etc. Its down to poor hygiene. I drunk water all day while sunbathing, i;m not a boozer and the air con wasn't on in the day. All the adults got ill at the hotel to some degree (sick, shaking, runs). Now, i have been all around the world, and sunbathed in hot countries and never got ill before, so unless Egypt transmits some kind of magic through its sunshine i fail to see why they should be different. The pharmicist sold me some medication for £30 (yes he ripped me off) but it stopped symptons within the day. I shudderred at the pregnant holiday makers and babies that where there, as the risk is too great. I will say that none of the children got ill from any of the families that we knew, so what it was and how you got it is a mystery. The kids where in the pool all day so maybe all the chlorine in the pool helped them out.

50% of the staff in the restaurant are an absolute pain. Harrassing you to sit in their area, i had to wrestle my tea cup off them on more than 1 occaison, so i could make my tea how i like it. He insisted on watching me so he could learn, WTF? The pool bar, and evening bar staff are OK. Beware, the drinks are foul, and i mean foul, and watered down. The food isn't great and its the same old stuff every day. Bearing in mind how much extra you are paying for AI, is it worth it??

Kids entertainment was rubbish 2 or 3 blokes, 1 european the other 2 Egyptian. From what i could make out, it was a film at 7.30 each evening, then kids disco, with the same songs, agadoo, ymca and some european tunes. The evening entertainment consisted of the same dance troop in different guises....they looked like they had cobbled some mates together to see if they could pass as a troop......rubbish to the point of embarassment.

On balance, my kids enjoyed it. They made friends, knew all the songs, and weren';t ill thank God. My patner enjoyed it to a point (the weather etc) Culturally, it is very different for Europeans, bartaring for everything (even the Drs price apparently) They will quite happily rip you off in a heart beat. Avoid the Camel man on the beach, they will have you up on the camel and trott you up and down, then demand £60, just say no from the start!

TIPS: I don't know if they are anchoring after tips all the time, or they are just helpful and want you to enjoy your stay. They don't want dollars, and they certainly don't want coins (they can't get them changed) on our last days, they were asking us to exchange their coins into Egyptian £, so just take their money. A previous reviewer has said he left a £1 on the bed every day and he got towel sculpures, we didn't , and we got the towel sculptures too.

A fellow holiday maker was brave and ventured outside the complex to accross the road, and Soho Square. She said it is all knock off stuff, and the prices are cheaper in the little shopping area in the Mirabel Resort itself, and you won't get pestered!

Airport: Avoid travelling there or back on a Thursday, this is the busiest day - 15 flights, and my god, you have never seen chaos like it! 2 flights on a friday apparently, so go for that if you still want to go!

Will i go again? No. I went to The Gambia years ago, and i struck that off my list for much the same reasons. 1 week is more than enough. If you like lots of attention to the point of harrasment off men, and do not mind being stuck in your room, so you can make the 4 second warning to the toilet you will love it! Also, Egyptian women do not work, so you will not see any local women. The entire work force is male, which is very bizzare for a English woman on holiday. Perhaps if the place had a womens touch around a bit more, it might be much improved?

Room Tip: Don't go ground level, they bug spray every night, but the ants and cockroaches are big! Much h...

Typical Egypt 5* hotel/complex. The Park has access to the beach and the rest of the hotel complex - it is massive and the Park itself is a small part of the larger Mirabel Complex.

We were on the ground floor with a large room however it was close to the sewage tanks and being 40 degrees walking past it wasn't pleasant! We stress that you can only smell this walking past and every hotel has this small issue, just because of the heat. You can't smell it the minute you walk into your room and shut the door.

The bar staff at the pool learn your name and order very quickly but it's amazing how responsive they are to Brits who learn a little of the language. Also a tip I got from someone I know who visits Egypt every year - take lots of pound coins with you! These are a better tip than the small value of the Egyptian pound and if you leave £1 on your bed every day you'll come back to a spectacular sculpture made of towels!!

The food was excellent, though on the smaller scale of a typical Egyptian Hotel. However no issues with the food at all. I think people are suseptable to upset stomachs as being used to maximum temps of under 20 degrees and going to a country double that - of course your body need to adjust!!! Drink lots of bottled water and NO MATTER WHAT don't eat ANY salad or fruit. That way you will/should be fine.

The pool area was very clean and towels supplied. Twice daily the childrens 'entertainers' turned of their mad music and stomped around the pool looking for volunteers for water polo and stupid childrens games - no wonder they never got any volunteers!! This was mainly aimed at Germans/Russians who seemed to like this kind of thing.

Maybe it's just us - we wanted to lie at the pool in peace and quiet!

Overall a brilliant hotel with attentative staff but pay a little more and you will get 5* instead of our 3+*.

We arrived at Jaz mirabel park hotel at 22:00 we arrived to the animation team at the main bar area singing and dancing first impression was WOW. The restuarant normally closes at 22:00 but they left it open as the hotel knew we were coming which i thought was very nice as we could have been left to starve ;) The staff are excellent at the pool bar especially Amr he is so funny he has a scottish accent very strong! It is defientelly worth going again and i would happily go again. We went for sixteen nights and yes it is a long time and you do get bored after a bit. The food was very nice i thought there was a lot to offer and the food quallitty is perfect! Rodney Smith.

We have just got back from this resort after spending 10 days in October from 08/10/11, the weather was excellent not dropping below 32 degrees, all the staff we encountered were excellent and could not do enough for you. Amir and Mostafa at the pool bar in the park area of the complex were brilliant. They not only interacted with the tourists they made sure you had everything you needed, their sense of humour is fantastic. The "animation" team also were a credit to the resort, Andrea and Anna made sure everyone were involved in the entertainment throughout the day and evening, their enthusiasm was breathtaking, involving children and adults alike. The accommodation and food were really good, you can use the facilities in both the park and club. The only negative we found was we were both attacked by the mosquito's extremely badly where I had an adverse reaction even though we had everything with us for mosquito's (sprays, plug in's and tablets). On our last day we saw and spoke to others at the resort who clearly had been attacked by mosquito's one woman we could not see her skin for bites another had them all over her face, we were told other hotels spray chemicals in the air around the hotel, so whether this is something the management need to look into only they can answer. Would certainly go back to Sharm but would look at whether hotels deal with mosquito's for tourists. Anthony & Linda (Manchester)

Room Tip: From what I could see all the rooms overlooked the pools, but noise was not an issue at all.

We arrived at the Jaz Mirabel Park at 21:50 and were told from the reception to go start down to the restaurant as it closed at 22:00 and the time we checked in we would of missed it. We got there and was still plenty of food to choose from. I think this was nice of them as we could of been left hungery. We had a family room as there was me my husband and our 2 Yr old son. The room had plenty of storage and a decent size room and a walk in shower. Our boy was to young for the kids club however they seemed to do a good job. In the evening they have a movie played from 19:30 followed by mini kids disco then other entertainment until 12. The pools were lovely and the staff were friendly. Overall a very good holiday and would recommend it.
