“Desert safari”
Reviewed February 3, 2014 via mobile

Although the rooms at the hotel were basic we were very comfortable and Peter, our host, extremely helpful and knowledgable. After a long day travelling, to retreat to his dome shaped bar/lounge was unexpected and relaxing. By nature I am not a camper but the trip and overnight out in the desert were so memorable I was more than happy to repeat the experience. Peter's guide was excellent and Hamooda's cooking in the desert, given his limitations, was amazing and his English more than adequate. The night sky was magnificent and the surrounding peace an experience to remember.

After the grunge of the Siwa Paradise Hotel we arrived in Bawiti at the International Hot Spring Hotel for two nights. What a difference! We were met with the loquacious, Peter, who is the perfect host and offered us hibiscus juice drinks. He explained the essentials regarding meals, the location of the rooms, and the Black Mountain sunset we could see behind the complex. The room was spotlessly clean and nicely appointed in white and blue. The evening meal was superb. After the enormous buffets in Cairo and Alexandria, the next days' breakfast was basic but just what our stomachs needed. As others have mentioned, Peter has for sale camel hair blankets (heavy brown and lighter white blankets). We bought a white camel hair blanket which was thoughtfully wrapped and tied by Peter's wife. The entire experience was excellent and is highly recommended as part a dessert tour.

After reading many excellent reviews about this hotel and their white desert tours, we decided to use them even though they cost more than some of their competitors believing we would have a better tour in the end.
One of the most disappointing parts of the tour was the lack of communication from the driver, although this was a private tour and we were with native Arabic speakers, he seemed most concerned with keeping up with the other tourist vehicles.
As soon as the sun went down, the wind rose and we experienced a severe sandstorm. Rather than help us or check we were safe, the driver went to sleep on the roof of the 4x4. The next day when we returned to the hotel, the owner showed absolutely no concern about our trip, even though we were clearly upset and refused to allow us to take a shower, unless we paid for another night at the hotel.
Obviously, the weather was not in the hotel owner's control. However, the lack of provision and care for his clients meant that I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

nested in a cluster of sweet-smelling Oleander, Flame Trees and Frangipani the hotel rooms were clean and tastefully decorated. Most memorable, however, was the personal attention I received from the owner during my stay, being one of the few remaining guests of the season, which went a long way to attenuate the solitude. At sundown we enjoyed a beer together and he regaled me with his specialist knowledge of the area and its people, as well as pointing me in the right direction when it came to activities which could be pursued within the proximity of the hotel. It was this personal touch, I found, which set this hotel experience aside from any other. I would definitely, given the chance, re-visit the hotel, ensuring however, that this time it would be during the winter.

After 5-hour-drive from Cairo, on a long but easy road, you reach the Hot Spring Hotel in oasis Bahariyya. This place is ideal location before entering the desert, as it will prepare you. Do not expect 5-stars service, but a warm welcoming and hospitality from Mr Peter and his wife. The rooms present the minimum you can expect, the food was correct, but what we particularly appreciated is this exquisite atmosphere, where you meet multi-national travelers.

This oasis is about 365 km south-west of Cairo. It is easy to drive on this paved road from Cairo to Bahariyya as well on the following roads going to Aswan through the 4 other oasis.

There are many hotels in Al Bahariyya oasis. The international Hot springs hotel is one of the most professional able to provide clever advises to visit this oasis and the other ones. The rooms are located in few modern independent bungalows with air-con and all facilities. The restaurant offers a buffet for breakfast and local meals for lunch and dinner. The decoration is ordinary. What is exceptional in this hotel is the pool with hot water spring (round basin with diagonal 10 meters). It is a thermal spring with medicinal and restorative properties because of the ferruginous water. I stayed in it after diner during half an hour (hot water at 33°C) and then I slept very well. Don’t forget to test this bath as it is the most attractive facility of the hotel. The internet connexion was not working because the Internet provider in this oasis was not working at this time. The price for a double room was at the market rate (45 Euros per night including breakfast).

To visit this oasis, a tourist guide is mandatory (the management of the hotel can provide one with a car if you need). After visiting the oasis itself, don’t forget to visit the Golden Mummies Museum: 10 wonderful mummies are still waiting for you.

Then we visited the white desert, an extraordinary and unique geological open air museum. It is one of the top ten sites to visit in Egypt. From the asphalt road, it is necessary to have a 4 x4 drive car to travel inside this park. You will find several layers of limestone covering the area and are known to contain fossils of invertebrates. Your camera will enjoy being there…

Room Tip: All bungalows seems equivalent.

Egypt is full of hotels, most of which are rather tired, not well kept and ill-maintained. The International H9t Spring Hotel in Bahariya Oasis shows that excellence is possible when management keeps strict control of what is going on. This hotel, situated in pleasant grounds with a nice children's playground on the edge of Bawati in the oasis of Bahariya is very well run, with sparklingly clean rooms and an equally well run bar and restaurant. The German owner and his wife are very hands on, welcoming and entirely pleasant, but they maintain an eagle-eye on their charming staff to ensure a haven of calm and order for the guests. From entry to the tidy hotel compound, it is obvious that all will be well. The tour bus is directed firmly, but clearly to a spot where luggage can be discharged with the minimum of fuss and the maximum of efficiency. Rooms are immaculately kept, not an easy task in a town surrounded by sand, and efficiently equipped, as are the spacious bathrooms. Air con and heating work well and the very attractive "Casbah" style bar and restaurant are pleasant places to linger. The cooking is good, though a little limited in scope, but breakfasts and lunch boxes for this who need to move on early are very good. The "hot spring" is slightly murky, but vey relaxing - and the excellent masseur one of the best and cheapest i've ever encountered. The owner of this hotel could very usefully be employed by the Egyptian tourist authorities to show other establishment how to do things, properly. A gem,
