“Better than ever!”
Reviewed January 30, 2011

We stayed 4 nights at Posada del Quinde and enjoyed every moment. There was ample time to explore the markets and environs, and owner Maggie's guidance was right on-target. The space was warm and inviting for reading and relaxing in front of the fire and catching up on emails. It truly felt like a home away from home. I was also impressed by the genuine friendliness of Maggie and her high quality staff. Returning from a first stay (under previous ownership) some years ago, I was delighted to find that the hotel's best qualities had been retained, with the addition of a truly hospitable ambiance.

We stayed just two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. It's in a great location...just a short stroll to the huge market. The common areas are very comfortable and include purified water to fill your water bottle and a computer with Internet access. The large terrace is beautiful and overlooks the garden and includes a wonderful view of the mountains. Rooms are more than adequate in size with "matrimonial" beds. Realize the hotel is in a city so expect vehicle noise - light sleepers use ear plugs. The hotel is very clean and all foods properly washed, etc. Breakfast is included and we enjoyed eggs, coffee, juices, fruit and breads. Maggie arranged various trips for us....she's an expert with enormous patience. She also arranged a taxi from Quito and William drove a most comfortable new passenger van.

La Posada del Quinde is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Our room, the family suite, had plenty of space for the 6 of us and had incredible views of both the charming gardens and the spectacular mountains. The water pressure and temperature were great and the beds quite comfortable. The whole place is decorated with lovely handmade tapestries and crafts from local artisans. Delicious breakfast was included and we had a delicious dinner in the restaurant. We were within walking distance of the famous Pancho Market as well as a produce market. Maggie, the owner, was endlessly helpful before we arrived, and Sarah, Maggie's fill-in, was exceptional with advice and arrangements. It made us feel quite comfortable having English speakers around to help and translate when needed. We did not spend nearly enough time here. We would definitely go back!

Stayed here for 2 nights after spending 2 nights in busy Quito. It was a nice change, we enjoyed the comfy area by the fireplace to relax, read and hang out. The owner was out of town during our visit, but her replacement was great and very helpful. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and great in the kitchen :)
Close walk to all the markets too.
Short taxi drive to the little town with the waterfall is a nice afternoon trip, and would also recommend the Condor Park (has wonderful views of the town).
Would recommend for a nice change of pace from Quito.

I was a bit apprehensive when I found out the hotel was sold to a new owner, but when I met Maggie, she instantly put us to ease. She was absolutely fantastic and so is her staff of all local people. Maggie has done an outstanding job taking over the hotel. She greets each guest and takes the time to talk with them. The rooms are very cozy and comfortable with local art, good solid furniture, a heater to keep your room warm, a large bathroom and big shelves for storage. The shower was absolute heaven with plenty of hot water. Breakfast is included in the room tariff.

We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night over Halloween weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. Maggie was extremely helpful with arranging a driver to take us to our next destination. The food in the hotel restaurant was outstanding. Everything was fresh and delicious. The largest market in South America is only a few blocks from the hotel, very convenient. What bargains!!

Maggie also told us where the most reliable banks were near the market and where to take my laundry to be done. We had just come from the jungle portion of our trip and needed to clean up the mud!! It was an amazing bargain compared to what it costs to get laundry done in Quito. I was sick with bronchitis when I arrived and Maggie offered to call her doctor. She kept checking with me to make sure I was recovering OK.

The hotel is exactly like the pictures (maybe even better) you see on the TripAdvisor's website. The dining room with a fireplace is beautiful. The placemats on the table even have hummingbirds woven in. Our room faced a great garden with lots of hummingbirds. Since I enjoy gardening at home, I really enjoyed being able relax and walk in the garden and take time to smell the flowers! The patio is a great place to eat lunch or dinner. The dancers and muscians that perform on Friday nights were delightful.

It was so peaceful and comfortable, I really hated to leave. There is so much more to do in the area that we did not have time to do.

If I ever get a chance to return, I woudn't even consider staying anywhere else in Otavalo.

This hotel is located in a relatively quiet location about 6 blocks from the middle of town. It has 16 rooms and two apartments. It has a casual restaurant on-site that serves breakfast (which is included in the room price and delicious), lunch and dinner items. Also, it has a comfortable seating area near a fireplace and a computer with internet access. The rooms are modest, but comfortable. They have large showers with excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water during select hours. Also, there are space heaters in each room to help keep you warm on cool nights. The owner of the hotel, Maggie, was so nice and helpful to us (especially with making plans for sight-seeing tours and transportation to/from Quito). She is from the United States so her English (in addition to her Spanish) is excellent. If I should return to Otavalo, another stay at this hotel is definite.
