“Beautiful and friendly place”
Reviewed May 15, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

My friends and I just got back from an incredible 2-nignt stay at Hacienda San Juan de la Vega. This beautiful place located near to the lake “San Pablo”, is one of the most beautiful places I have ever known in the Province of Imbabura. The house called Ana was very comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed very much riding horses, milking a cow and picking vegetables from the organic garden. The hospitality of all the staff was amazing. I highly recommend this nice place to visit with friends or family.

“The best place we have ever stayed!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Honestly. I don't have the words to say how incredible this hacienda is. We spent one week here - myself, husband and adult daughter. It didn't take long to adapt to life on an organic farm. Every morning, we put on out rubber boots (you don't have to bring them - they have a pair in each size in the closet) and trekked up to the hen house to collect fresh eggs. Afterwards, we picked onions, carrots, beets, lettuce, brussel spouts, cauliflower and cabbage from the garden. Everything tasted so fresh! IN the afternoon, we could see the horses grazing right outside out window. The one female had a 4 month old foal named Biscocho who liked to give my daughter playful bites. Two puppies, a cat, cows, a lone alpaca - animals were all over. My daughter milked the cow and we pasteurized the milk. We went on horseback into the mountains where we could see all the way to Lago San Pablo. At night, we could hear the insects and frogs clicking and croaking - all kinds of sounds I have never heard before.
Although there is enough to do in the Hacienda, we took side trips all around the area with their friendly and helpful driver, Wilmer. Whenever we needed someone to take us out of the hacienda, one of the staff would call him for us and he would take us to town, or on a tour of a volcano, to the equator etc.
The owners live in Quito and come by on the weekends. Which was fine - two couples live on the farm and were available to help us with every tiny request. The younger couple, Veronica and Darwin were available any time of the day or night. Their dedication to the project of creating this organic farm vacation spot is admirable. They were patient with my Spanish (it would be hard to get along in Ecuador with only English), willing- even eager- to help us make the most of our time there. Veronica spent an afternoon helping us make Emapanada de Viento (Cheese empanadas). I owe it to Veronica and Darwin that our vacation was such a success. They really took care of us.
This hacienda is so beautiful, the photos can't do it justice. Just go and see for yourself. You will fall in love with this place!

“The hacienda of our dreams!”
Reviewed November 29, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

San Juan de la Vega is definitely a dream place in the heart of Ecuador. The guest houses are very beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything you need. You get there and you feel at home. The landscape is stunning and the service is first class. There are also many places to visit around the Hacienda and many fun activities for children like horseback riding, trekking, bonfire, bicycling. I warmly recommend this place for a short or a long vacation!
