My husband & I stayed 3 nights here in the middle of November as part of our 20th anniversary celebratory vacation. The very warm, friendly and welcoming front desk/reception staff spoke perfect English. The room we stayed in was spacious with beautiful and whimsical murals around the windows. There was antique furniture in the room with a beautiful view into the landscaped grounds. When we returned to our room after dinner, we were greeted by a roaring fire in our kiva fireplace as well as hot water bottles tucked underneath the sheets of our bed.

The grounds are beautiful to walk around in with lovely lawn, vegetable garden, roses, and high Andean plants. We did 2 hikes around the local area which started right from the entrance to the hotel following maps the hotel provided.

We both had a massage in our room by the fireplace which the hotel arranged for us.

The meals in the restaurant were delicious, beautifully presented, and served with a smile.

Hacienda Cusin could be a destination onto itself as well as a great central location to explore the Otavalo area of Ecuador.

We highly recommend Hacienda Cusin.

We had the privilege of staying for three nights. Having been on hiking trails for a few days before we took the option to spend one day at the hacienda and simply rest. The gardens are immaculate and spread over several acres, which includes the monastery site and the vegetable gardens that are used by the chef to produce some great food. On our walk around we discovered the secret entrance to the Bell Tower :-). All the staff, and that includes the Gardners as well as the staff int he House and restaurant and Reception are just amazing and make the stay special. When our guide was stuck in an accident on our second day the manager drove us to our first destination himself! Our room was in the Main House. No TV or radio. Good WiFi. No air con, but we didn’t need it. A decent sized room and firm beds were great. Complimentary purified water and tea coffee facilities all nearby in the corridor. Downsides? Our room got warm, we opened the windows, and smoke from the fireplace came in. Also there is a factory nearby and we were woken most mornings around six, once at 05.30 as a van kept beeping its horn. And the local town is limited so you do need a guide or taxis to get around. Lovely place though. Great relaxation.

Thank you for such appreciative comments, especially after you had explored the entire grounds, so important to La Familia de Cusin who have so committed themselves for over 28 years to make what Cusin is today.

Yes, General Manager Cesar is exceptional, always eager to go that extra mile. He will speak with the factory, especially regarding its drivers.

Regresa pronto!

As a 13-year-old girl on her first adventure through Ecuador, I had a wonderful time at Hacienda Cusin. Between the welcoming environment leading to spirited conversations between guests and the delicious four-course homemade meals, there is nothing I dislike about this hacienda. The owner, Nick, is a hilarious British New Yorker, well-versed in practical jokes and incredible stories. The grounds are beautiful, with stables full of local animals and gardens with lush plants. The entire design of the place has jokes spun into it, from flying pigs on pillars to murals featuring silly hidden meanings. If you're looking for a place to stay in Ecuador, stay at Hacienda Cusin.

Room tip: The cozy fireplace was awesome!

THANK YOU for such an appreciative, observant review - especially your appreciation of the design and owner (Basil Fawlty)'s quirky humor! DON'T MISS Fawlty Towers via youtube. 'Basil' loved your last sentence.

Entonces, regresa pronto!

I am a ten-year-old girl from San Francisco, who visited Cusin over the holidays. What a special place! I was astounded by everything, from the buttery rolls to the hair-eating llamas at Hacienda Cusin. In all my life I have not been so welcomed! Nick, the owner, let me give treats to the two lovable dogs. The llamas nibbled at my hair, which tickled, and spit at my sister, which amused me! They even have a playground! Another thing about Hacienda Cusin is Nick has a great sense of humor. He hides a bunch of funny things into the scenery. For example, he has a fireplace below the altar in his chapel. I would recommend Hacienda Cusin to anyone, including you!
