We stayed at the Hacienda Cusin for 4 nights in January 2017. Overall it was a great experience. The compound is hundreds of years old and decorated with interesting art and paintings in line with the overall feel of the place. While on the surface it looks pretty serious, there are lots of funny twists in them.
Our room was very comfortable and had a fire place - a fire was built for us every evening while we were enjoying dinner. Also warming bottles were put in our beds.
The onsite restaurant is great. We enjoyed every meal there.
Hacienda Cusin sits on a large walled property with nice gardens with large trees and lots of birds. Right next to it are stables with horses, bunnies, turkeys, ducks, chickens etc. Our 12 year old son had a really good time just hanging out on the property.
It is easy to reach Otavalo and other area sights from here by car.

The place is an old monastery wonderfully decorated.
It has a beautiful garden and public rooms such as library. We celebrated there a local ceremony of burning last year characters on 31/12/16
The only problem was the water flow in the bathroom and the fire heating.which did not last the whole night.

Room tip: ask for a room with a renovated shower

Thank you for your appreciation of Hacienda Cusin's art collections and extensive gardens. Please note that the New Year's Eve effigy burning represents and removes the negatives from the previous year.

Thank heavens you had a hot-water bottle and heavy wool blankets! Regresa pronto!

I am giving this "hacienda" five stars because it more than exceeded my expectations. The grounds are stunning, the food is flavorful, fresh, many ingredients are from the on premise kitchen garden, and beautifully presented. There is a stable, children's play area, game rooms, (squash, pool, ping pong, and more), basketball court, and other amusements as well as beautifully appointed common spaces, terraces and library. There are fireplaces in each lovely guest suite but there is no tv in the rooms. I emphasize this because I appreciate the R&R, the gardens, nature, local market excursions and the beauty of the place and helpful staff have more than met my expectations. It is a perfect place for a family gathering, romantic vacation or business retreat. The fire roaring inthe fireplace when coming in from dinner is such a delight. The bar is intimate and well stocked. The staff is extremely helpful and there is laundry service available. I think expectations are key when booking a trip and understanding what is available to you is extremely important. If you are looking for a peace of heaven in the Ecuadorian countryside, this is it.

Hacienda Cusin is located in the village of San Pablo a few miles from Otavolo. We stayed there for three nights including New Year's Eve. Separated from the main building by the Hacienda's large vegetable and flower garden, our fairy-tale cottage was cozy and charming, decorated with local artifacts, and we were delighted that the evening chill was eased by a fire lit in the traditional fireplace each evening and with warm water bottles placed under the bedcovers. The Hacienda grounds were fascinating to visit, both the restored buildings of the old hacienda and the old-looking but newly built "monastery." We appreciated the friendliness of the staff, who made our stay fun and easy. They put a lot of effort into making the New Year's Eve celebration and we had a great time. We had a wonderful time and only regretted that we could not stay longer!

The guest rooms at the hacienda are very nicely appointed and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The bathrooms are a bit basic compared to the rest of the property. The food is very good, but the service can be a bit slow in the late morning.

The property overall is charming with beautiful gardens, an elegant library, and warm common room. The decorations are quite eclectic. The bedspreads were locally made handwoven blankets that are incredible.

The owner was there while we were and provided us with the recent history since he acquired in. He obviously cares deeply for the employees and their families.
