Description: Cafe Pachamama is located inside hotel La Posada del Quinde, just five blocks from the Plaza de Ponchos market. Our fireplace lounge, outdoor patio and garden provide something extra for travelers, as well as our freshly-prepared, organic food with local ingredients. To top it off, we offer more vegetarian options than any other restaurant in town and many delicious meat options as well. But even if you're not a vegetarian, we have plenty of meat-based dishes and burgers to please meat-eaters as well.

“lunch in a garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

We were the only guests on a weekday for lunch here. I had a very good spinach pie, which was served generously with delcious green beans in a sauce, cucumber salad and french fries. A lot of food for not much money. They served the delicious Ecuador fresh juices as well as a burger and beer if you want. Nice outside garden atmosphere. They had difficulty using our credit card, so be prepared to pay cash if needed.

“Overrated + bad service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

The food was good, especially for vegetarians, but it was not worth the loooong waiting. The waiters didn't seem even interested in pleasing the guests...

And at the end they wanted to charge me an extra 10% for paying with credit card. I payed cash and promised never to return.

Thank you very much for your review of the restaurant. It makes us happy to know that you enjoyed the food, albeit a bit slow due to preparing everything to order.

We are, however, sorry to hear that you were left with such an impression of our service, as we pride ourselves on offering excellent service to our patrons and hotel guests. I contacted you through a private message to ask for a description of your server so that I could speak directly with that person, but never received a response. When patrons leave reviews but are not responsive to our requests for more detail to help us improve our service, we do not have the information we need to target our areas of weakness. If you would not mind sending that detail, we would appreciate it.

Secondly, we want to be clear that we have NEVER charged a 10% fee for credit card use at Café Pachamama. In fact, there is no charge for use of Visa or Mastercard--the two cards we accept. It has never been our policy to charge a 10% fee and I don't want prospective patrons to be misinformed. If you were asked to pay a 10% fee, perhaps there was some confusion about a 10% service fee (tip) that is collected for the kitchen and servers. That money is pooled at the end of the month and distributed among the entire staff. I apologize for the confusion, but assure you that we do not charge a fee to our patrons for credit card use.

We understand that it takes time to leave a review and we appreciate you having done so. Our most critical reviews are those that help us to improve upon what we are currently offering. Thank you for taking the time to let prospective patrons know what your opinion was of our restaurant.

“Highly Recommended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

We had the good fortune to visit Otavalo 3 times since 2011. Each time we returned to La Posada del Quinde because of the great hospitality, wonderfully friendly and efficient staff, and incredibly helpful owner. Breakfast at Cafe Pachamama, included with the room, was a wonderful way to start the day, sitting in a sun-filled room, watching the hummingbirds in the beautiful gardens, and the organic Ecuadorian coffee. There was a great variety of lunch and dinner entrees, from steak and shrimp dishes to vegetarian plates, all prepared with fresh ingredients. We ate there many times and loved the food, especially the hearty soups in front of the fireplace on cool evenings. Don't miss the traditional Andean music on Friday nights! Hope to see you soon -- Maggie and Flor. Janice and Richard

“An quiet oasis in Otavalo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

We've had several lunches here with consistently good food. You sometimes wait a while as they must make everything without a microwave which is fine. There are lovely garden views and the food is worth the wait. It's a very clean place with fresh food deliciously prepared at great prices.

We stayed at La Posada del Quinde where this restaurant is located and found the food here to be excellent! My favorite was the enchilada casserole which is actually a vegetarian dish. It was so delicous I ordered it twice during our stay. Breakfasts were hardy and served with a wonderful array of local fruits and the coffee was tops as well. The staff was friendly, warm and always smiling and we had no trouble communicating in our broken Spanish.

The local entertainment on Friday night was a real plus as well. We did try a few other local places to eat but found Cafe Pachamama to be the BEST PLACE in Otavalo. Try it! You won't be disappointed.
