The hotel employee was super helpful in orienting us to sites in and around town and he gave us a personalized map with directions! The hotel is a few blocks from the main strip, maybe wouldn't want to walk it alone at night but fine with another person. It was close enough for us to get to all the sites easily. The rooms are big and clean. There was a tv , DVD player and a selection of movies in English and Spanish. There is a full kitchen to use on the terrace. The terrace has great views but is a bit run down. The building itself is older but also totally fine when all you need is a clean, safe place to sleep. Its not a place to meet people though as there isn't really a comfortable communal space. I would totally stay there again as the price was great value and we had a pleasant stay.

Hostal Chasqui is a bit up a hill, but you get the reward with a great view from the roof. Me and my boyfriend stayed in a double room with private bathroom. The room was clean, but it was very cold. Luckily we had lots of blankets. There was no toilet paper or soap in the bathroom, but for a hostal we dont expect this. The hot water in the showers was unreliable. The guy at reception was very friendly and explained everything about Otavalo and gave us a map. The shared kitchen is big, but not very well equipped. We tried to make some coffee, but the ¨coffee maker¨ did not work well. There were no spoons and only one fork... There was only a very small and a very large saucepan. Overall a good option as long as expectations are low.

I checked in to Chasqui with no trouble and landed in my first private room after 6 weeks of traveling! and i paid the same price that id paid for a bed in an 8-bed dorm room in most of South America. The hostel is clean and close to the market. Wifi works good and the kitchen on the roof overlooking the town adds to the ambiance. And the laundry is really free and easy to tackle by yourself. The only person seemed to be working in the hostel (ugh i forgot his name) has been super helpful from the minute i checked in. Do not expect anything fancy as this is a budget hostel but you get what you pay for. I'd come back to the Chasqui!

Based on all the good reviews that Hostal Chasqui received, we booked for 2 nights. After staying for 1 night we left. The room we got was really smelly and the bed sheets were not clean at all. I guess the sheets have not been changed for a long time. Same with the towels.
Anyway, the personal, there was only one guy, was really friendly and explained us where to go and what to do in Otavalo. The Wifi worked fine and the balkony on top is nice. The kitchen looked very dirty and messy.
Sure, the price for the rooms are low, nevertheless, I expect to have a clean bed, no matter how much I pay.

When you are greeted in the lobby by a life-sized Bender, you know you can't go wrong. Clean single private rooms with hot water bathrooms and tv/dvd player for only $10... an excellent, cheap way to escape from dorm hell. The owner and staff were extremely helpful with the layout of the hostel as well as tips on things to do and things not to do (i.e. DON'T walk to Parque Condor, take a taxi. [ Manos arriba!]) Great views from the rooms and terraces. Otavalo is a great place to spend a few days... the market, Peguche Falls, Parque Condor... come and get it.

Yep, in all of South America this was the only place that offered free laundry. Needless to say we all did our laundry twice in the two days we were there! And Robert and Milton are the sweetest Ecuadorians you will ever meet. They go into detail when describing and they can speak really good English. The rooms are cosy, the shower is so hot, and the kitchen up on the roof is the warmest rooms of all. Plus the view from up there of all of Otavalo is quite a treat.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the top floor

We loved this hostel. The owner is super friendly, the guy who cleans is very friendly too, the rooms are comfortable and big, there's hot water, a big kitchen and a tv and dvd player in your room with tons of movies. And.... free laundry!!! It's not that far away from the center and it's not in t where you hear the noise. We highly recommend it.
