Description: “La Canoa” has become an icon for tourist and locals alike who wish to sample and discover the best of the authentic local fare, Ecuadorian food at its finest. We receive an average of 48 thousand visitors each year; this year we will have awarded 11,315 days of straight, un-interrupted, 24 hour attention which is truly a record in the city’s Gastronomical circles. At “La Canoa” you can enjoy a buffet breakfast in Native Fashion or American style with a wide choice of tropical fruits, cereals, dairy products, sausage and meat products, without overlooking an old Guayaquil habit of starting the day with a “caldo de salchicha” or sausage soup or encebollado de albacora” which would be a tuna soup. These cannot be passed up!

“Great Ecuadorean Food, but Expensive”

This was one of the best meals we had in Ecuador. The green plantain soup was amazing. I would recommend this place despite the price.

“Overpriced good local food”
Reviewed April 2, 2014 via mobile

The food is decent but a bit pricey ($15-20 main course). Surprisingly most of the patrons seem to be local - which may suggest the quality of the meals there. Menu has lots of photos and is very friendly to non Spanish speakers to order.

“Overpriced for decent food”

You're paying for the location which isn't really that special but in down town. Service was somewhat sporadic at lunch time. Had ceviche which tasted like ketchup soup, might be the touristic version of real ceviche, for that you have to as for "ceviche criollo". The caldo de salchicha was really good and the Fanesca (typical salt fish soup with veggies during Easter)

“Good recommendation”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

We wanted to go to another seafood restaurant near our hotel (Hostal Macaw), but apparently they weren't open in the evening. Since we were going to be on the Malecon2000, the owner of the hotel recommended we go to La Canoa for lunch. It was a good choice for us - we weren't terribly hungry, we mostly ceviche and they have a good selection. I had the mixed seafood, my husband had the pulpo. Both were quite delicious. Prices do seem to be higher in Guayaquil than in other parts of Ecuador, but they weren't unreasonable. The restaurant was packed with people who seemed to be locals.

“Nice end to a long day”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

My parents and I ate here after a 9 hour bus ride from Quito. The food was very tasty. The complementary beans and hominy with a spicy salsa was so yummy! And I may have had one of my top 3 coffees of all time. Our server Daniel was very kind. He brought menus with English translations so my parents knew what they were getting and was very personable and patient. I thought the prices were higher than what we would pay in Ecuador but chalked that up to a touresty location.

I would go back if I needed a stress free dinner in a nice setting (as was mentioned by someone earlier, the restaurant was full of happy looking, well dressed, Ecuadorans). In fact, will probably be there in the morning for another cup of the outstanding coffee!
