I went to this restaurant on a business dinner and I found the atmosphere and food quality to be very good. The octopus was very flavorful and we ordered a fish cooked in a block of salt, which was also very good.

Servers were on top of us (without being annoying) to make sure we were happy. Overall á very good dinning experience.

Thank Francisco M

A popular street food in mountainous regions is hornado, consisting of potatoes served with roasted pig. Some examples of Ecuadorian cuisine in general include patacones (unripe plantains fried in oil, mashed up, and then refried), llapingachos (a pan seared potato ball), and seco de chivo (a type of stew made from goat). A wide variety of fresh fruit is available, particularly at lower altitudes, including granadilla, passionfruit, naranjilla, several types of bananas, uvilla, taxo, and tree tomato.

This is the best Italian restaurant in Guayaquil, and possibly the only true Italian restaurant. More precisely the cuisine is from Liguria, and so is all the inspiration of the place. The restaurant is decorated with simplicity and good taste and has a room for private meetings. The menu is very rich and presents both a combination of Italian classics and a few variations based upon Ecuadorian ingredients. In either case the result is very satisfactory. Among the former I would like to quote a great selection of risotti (I have enjoyed a “risotto al gorgonzola” and several pasta proposals; among the latter I would like to mention a few main courses based upon local fish and seafood. The ingredients are excellent and very Italian. Olive oil deserves a special mention. Also the selection of cheese and affettati is very nice. Those are a direct evidence of the owner’s direct link with Italy, from where he imports these ingredients. The desserts are fantastic: a wide high quality choice of true Italian desserts: I had a great panna cotta, for example. The service is impeccable and very professional. The restaurant is also part of the “slow food” network founded by Italy’s Carlin Petrini. That represents a further source of inspiration for innovation and quality. Make no mistakes: unlike most Italian restaurants in Guayaquil, this is a real Italian restaurant, and it would perfectly fit in Italy itself. The restaurant is relatively expansive, but that is partially justified in consideration of its special status. Also to mention that this year la Riviera has won the “premio ospitalità” as the best Italian restaurant of South America. Recommended for all the occasions, with friends, family, business and romantic dinners. Very good.

I shared lunch here with a regular customer familiar enough to be on a first-name basis with everyone we encountered. This may have tilted the service in a positive direction. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived for lunch around 2 PM. The staff were friendly and attentive, producing my host's favorite appetizers almost without asking. We sampled crostini (they were called buschetta, but were not grilled) with guacamole and an eggplant spread that were delicious. The olive oil served with the bread was quite good, bright in flavor with a pleasing bite. The bread was average with a nice crumb but not much crunch to the crust.

We were eating vegetarian, so my host ordered a pizza with an excellent crust. For me, spaghetti with grilled vegetables--eggplant, zucchini, and, I believe, mushrooms, which was place in a foil tent with tomatoes and then roasted. The result was lovely. The extra cooking and moisture did not overly soften the pasta. So someone was paying attention to details in the kitchen.

For dessert we shared a Tortino, a small chocolate souffle that is a signature dish here. It was perfect: beautifully crusty on the surface and soft and luscious in the center. Ecuador has perhaps the best single origin chocolate in the world so any chocolate dessert has to meet a high standard in this market. It was wonderful.

The wine list is very good. This makes a lovely setting for a lunch meeting or a romantic evening.
