Review of Mercado Artesanal

Mercado Artesanal
Ranked #3 of 16 Shopping in Guayaquil

Centro Comercial Artesanal is a very large marketplace that is located in Guayaquil and where you can enjoy various shops as: restaurants, shoe shops, clothes shop, handmade ornaments, hats of paja toquilla, and various crafts.
It has a spacious parking lot and the things are a bit cheap and the best of all is that you can bargain! It is very nice to buy gifts to our friends that visit us and for us.
Security is extends until to the underground parking, admission is by Street José de Antepara. While on the top floor is the food court where visitors can taste the typical dishes of Ecuador. I recommend it to you!

Have been here many times. Good selection of goods but disappointed by the number of stalls that were closed on a Sunday afternoon.

At the end of our trip our host brought us to this market. All of us bought many fun things to remember our trip. I got serval wraps made from Alpacas at a great price. Wonderful leather goods were there also. You can barter but it helps if you speak Spanish

If you have to buy a lot of people stuff and dont have a huge budget or room this is the place to go. They have everything usually made by the indigenous people from the mountains. You can get some really nice and high quality llama fur and leather jackets there but you wouldnt need it in Guayaquil. Also you can get the original "panama" hat there without having to go to Cuenca for a reasonable price.

Mercado artesanal is a great place where to buy souvenirs in Guayaquil. There is a large variety of articles to choose from. Here you can find the traditional t-shirts, key chains and magnets, but also the famous Panama Hats, Ponchos, and interesting Ecuadorean arts and fabrics. Prices are always elevated by the vendors, but if you really like something, just negotiate a price that you would both feel comfortable with. If no luck, then move on to the next stall. Many vendors carry similar articles. One thing I liked about this market is that the vendors are not too pushy. If you don't want something, just move on, and they would leave you alone. The market is located about 3 blocks away from Malecon 2000. Although the area looks not so nice, I walked by myself from my hotel by the river, and was fine. Probably better if you walk with a group though.
