“Simple, Clean, Reliable Accommodation”
Reviewed September 29, 2011

I stayed one night at the Tangara upon arrival by plane in Guayaquil. Hotel staff met me at the airport, providing a hassle-free transfer to the hotel. The staff is courteous and attentive.

The room was simple, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good: fresh fruits, eggs made to order, etc. The location is near the Universidad de Guayaquil. The building itself is very non-descript, should one prefer to maintain a low profile.

My parents and I stayed here for a week starting August 6th. I was here on a medical mission to help out at the nearby Damien House, which houses people with Hansen's Disease (leprosy). When I first arrived, I was greeted warmly by the owner. He showed us around, showing us the nice patio area with the hammock, our rooms, the nice living room area, and the kitchen. Everything was clean and in order. The hostel offered basic drinks and amenities for a small price. The rooms came with a personal bathroom with a clean sink, toilet, and shower, though it was a little tricky to adjust the water from cold to hot. The beds are clean and comfortable, and the maid comes and cleans the rooms and make the bed every day. You have to turn on the air conditioner (loud) at night because it is quite warm, making it impossible to sleep otherwise. The loud air conditioning is actually kind of nice because it mostly drowns most of the loud and annoying sounds that you WILL hear at night if you don't turn on the air conditioning. On school days during the school year, you WILL be woken up at 7 AM whether you like it or not because the school across the street does a loud and long morning speech or something at this time every morning, and it is so loud that not even the air conditioning will drown it. But if you like to get up early, this should not be an issue. The hostel serves a good breakfast in a nice little restaurant-like kitchen, with very good service from a friendly staff. I would recommend this hostel to anyone except for people who are very light sleepers or those who like to sleep in, as this is impossible at Tangara Guest House. Apparently it is not in the nicest of neighborhoods because it has shards of glass all over the top of their surrounding walls! But this just for protection and should not be an issue unless you get locked out and want to try to climb the wall for some reason. Overall I would recommend this guest house, it definitely was much better than expected, as I know Guayaquil has a reputation as not the nicest city in the world. It made my stay in Guayaquil pleasant and smooth.

We traveled to Ecuador this past July and stayed 2 nights at Tangara.
(Family of 4, 2 adults and 2 adult kids).
Tangara offers very good accommodations, excellent service at a very affordable price. Antonio and his team provide fantastic service. Very good breakfast is included. The Hostel is 5 minutes from Guayaquil's airport.
Antonio helped us, ahead of time, in organizing our trip throughout Ecuador from Guayaquil, to Cuenca to the Amazon, to Quito to Puerto Lopez and Isla de la Plata. He took care of organizing excellent accommodations and tours at all of our destinations. We had many interactions while planning and Antonio was always responsive, helpful and as we found out while taking the trip very reliable. The trip planned for 10 days went extremely well. Every Hotel he reserved for us, was excellent from convenience, to service to cost. As we were arriving to each destination, we got used to the front desk telling us that Antonio called and wanted to make sure we arrived safely and everything was OK.
We highly recommend Tangara for staying in Guayaquil and if you are planning a trip in Ecuador you MUST get in touch with Antonio and have him help you organize your trip. Simply outstanding service (and we can’t rave enough…).
Thank you Antonio.

Stayed one night upon arriving into Guayaquil. Airport pick up was reliable. Checkin was very smooth. Room was basic, but perfect for what i needed. Breakfast was really good and service at whatever time was requested. Free internet access was available. Staff was very friendly and provided information re: Guayaquil as well as surrounding areas. Airplane noise only was noticed one time, but I was glad we were close to the airport having had arrived late into Guayaquil.

Recently stayed here with a group of 10 people while in Guayaquil to work at the Padre Damien Foundation. Tangara runs similarly to a bed and breakfast. Each morning we had a delicious breakfast of fruit, toast, eggs, juice, cafe or cocoa. The rooms are comfortable and the entire place is filled with the beautiful artwork of Lucia Perrone. In addition the hosts run a tour business and arranged a good day trip for our group, as well as made excellent recommendations for sights and restaurants to visit. The only downside is the airplane noise in the morning and evening but it does reflect the close proximity and ease of getting to the international airport.

Truly a great location, an oasis in a busy city. Our group plans on staying at Tangara again when we are next in Guayaquil!!
