As a woman traveling solo, I picked the Wyndham because it advertised things that were important to me for this trip: 1) close to the airport (about an 8-minute car ride); 2) free airport shuttle (taxis in Guayaquil can be dangerous if you don't pick the right one, so it's nice not to have to deal with that issue); 3) walkable to Cerro Santa Ana (about 15 minutes to the 400+ steps that lead up to a great view of the city); 4) looked clean and safe. Both times I stayed here, my room was spacious, immaculate, and modern. On both visits, 2 complimentary bottles of water were waiting on the bathroom sink (very much appreciated!). There were also other useful amenities (hair dryer with a diffuser, iron, etc.). The room also has a safe with a digital lock where you program the code. The room service food was quite good and the portions were plenty for me (photo attached). TIP: If you're REALLY starving, order one of the pizzas. I got the Pena Pizza one night, and it was HUGE/more than for one person. The service (front desk, room service, etc.) was excellent/very attentive across the board; they couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Also, the driver is your front yard. Speaking of which: Although the hotel seems to promote its "river view" rooms, I would actually opt for a room on the other side of the building. The reason is that the river is murky and there's really not much to see there. The back rooms, on the other hand, offer a view of a colorful hillside dotted with numerous colored houses. It's visually fascinating (to me, anyway). I saw that another reviewer complained about A/C noise in the back of the building, but I didn't hear any; that could have been, though, because I was on the 6th floor and the fans are closer to the ground. On the subject of A/C, mine worked great both times. Thank God, because I went in January when daytime temps hovered just under 90 and the humidity was at its peak. There was a nice-looking pool on the roof, but I didn't get to try that. Maybe next time. :-) The only reason I gave this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 is because it seems that the only way you can schedule the airport shuttle to pick you up at the airport is by calling the hotel at their local number in Ecuador. If you're not from the area (and you probably aren't if you're booking a hotel room), then placing an international long-distance call ($3/minute on my calling plan--imagine if you get stuck on hold) to order a "free" shuttle becomes contradictory. Why can't they have an email address where you have to schedule the pickup at least 48 hours in advance via email? Maybe they're worried about being "stood up" if someone's plans change, whereas phone communication is more immediate? I'm not sure, but it would be 1000% easier if travelers could arrange the airport pickup via email, or via a phone number that won't cost so much for someone outside the country. Other than that, this was a perfect place to stay for a lady traveling solo. I'd definitely stay here again.

We had been travelling for almost the entire month and all we found were average not as cleaned hotels. This one is brand new but also offers a touch of class from reception to restaurant. One thing they would have to improve though, is 1) give a reasonable faster service, our server had a tendency to forget about us. 2) the 3rd day on christmas day, we had friends whom were coming to visit and they wanted to charge a per person fat fee, this I found was unfair and extremely unpleasant. We were planning to eat at the hotel that night but because of that attitude, we cut it short and went to eat elsewhere. This may affect us to not return to this hotel. It is close to the malacon for a nice stroll.

My whole family stayed for almost a week. Friendly staff (particularly flexible to accommodate a last minute dinner for extended family gave me a very good feeling), brand new facilities. Proximity to the airport, great location to visit old city. Abundant and varied breakfast. In all, a very good experience

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river get a great view

Let me start by saying that I rarely write reviews for hotels, and I stay in about 20-30 of them per year since I travel a lot, so when I write reviews they are either really good or really bad. In this instance, my experience at the Wyndham Guayaquil was really good.

We booked our reservation for the Wyndham Guayaquil via the website, and we not only received an automated e-mail confirmation, but in 24 hours we received a personalized note from the concierge welcoming us. We stayed at the Wyndham for a couple nights around Christmas 2013. This is a very new hotel, and I believe it only opened in September 2013. The hotel is very clean, and rooms have a contemporary and chic appearance.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly -- they took their time with us, were very responsive, helped us with our suitcases, and were generally very courteous. Check-in and check-out was seamless and took just a couple minutes. Free shuttle to the airport was also on time. Airport is just five minutes away by car (so this is an ideal location for people that just need someplace to sleep overnight before flying out the next morning, as was the case for us since our final destination was Galapagos). Downtown Guayaquil is just 10 minutes by car away. There is free high-speed internet and is quite fast.

But, let me save the best for last: our flight to Ecuador was originally on 12/24 and it was postponed till 12/25. We had held a reservation with the Wyndham via the internet, and when we knew we missed our flight, it was well beyond the 24-hour cancellation policy that most hotels had. I e-mailed the hotel to explain that regrettably, our flight had been postponed but we still wanted to stay at the hotel and move our reservations by one night. They changed our reservation with zero penalty.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone -- obviously it's not quite the caliber of the Ritz Carlton or St. Regis, but those are upper-end hotels that you have to pay luxury money for. In contrast, I see my stay at the Wyndham as a four-star experience and a far more excellent value. We researched a dozen hotels in the area and are confident that this was the best choice for us.

A great hotel which my wife and I stayed at in a suite for one night in November with a fantastic view overlooking the waterfront. The room was spacious and modern and above all clean. Seperate bar and shower, twin sinks all good. The breakfast in the morning was well presented had a good choice but seating was scarce and we had to sit too far from the buffet. Service was very friendly and reception quick, welcoming and efficient.

Overall I liked this hotel as it was modern and clean and upto the standards that we enjoy in Europe - staying again in March.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the waterfront are detinately worth the expense
