Owner description: Stretching for several miles along the Rio Guayas, this lively boardwalk is well-patrolled day and night and features small food stands, other eateries and a blend of historic and modern buildings.

Malecon in Guayaquil everywhere was listed as a main city attraction. So, I had expectations. It was just o'k. Nothing really attracted me there.

The Malecon is a pretty nice place to people watch and stroll along the Guayas River. Nothing in it is particularly unique in and of itself, but together it makes for an interesting couple of hours. Plenty of options for general shopping and food if you desire.

I'd read that this was great, but still exceeded everything I thought it would be. Absolutely beautiful walk, with lots of seats and cafes/ice cream stands, etc. Lovely family atmosphere and very busy, so it felt very safe.

The malecon is not one of those places that you would plan to visit or make time for in particular, but it is indeed a pleasant place to walk around and see other people.
We were lucky enough to come around a salsa performance of a Christian Salsa Band preaching and dancing at the same time - that was super fun and definetly not something you see everyday!

this is a great place to walk from north to south end in "las Peñas", have a beer and some food, i'd recommend a restaurant called "resaca".
