Owner description: Like the ugly duckling to swan tale, this once poor area was transformed into a prime tourist attraction – a 465-foot stairway flanked by colorful houses, eateries, gift shops and galleries.

The steps are numbered--444--to get to Cerro Santa Ana where the chapel is and the foot of the lighthouse. Another 53 steps to get to the top of El Faro. Of course, it is a wonderful view of the city & its waterways. There's even a little historical park up there with information about the Fort Santa Ana along with a partial copy of a galleon. Remnants of the fort remain as well. When I got to the top, I went right into the chapel to say a prayer of thanksgiving that I made it up there!!!

I really enjoyed the walk up to the lighthouse. There are restraints bars and souvaner stores along the way. Beautiful place and a great view of Guayaquil. We weren't expecting much in Guayaquil but this definitely blew us away!!

The best lookout point in the city. You can also watch the airplanes take off and land at the very near airport.

What a great story! Congrats to the city of Guayaquil! Nice safe place to visit, must walk to the top to visit the "Capilla" (church), the lighthouse and to enjoy the views of the city! We visited during the day, we were told at night the bars and restaurants made this place a "hopping" area.

A climb up the steep numbered steps winds round the hill to an old lighthouse and church on the summit giving good views of the city and surrounding landscape. There are a few souvenir shops and restaurants on the way up.
