“Unexpected luxury”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

We stayed at this hotel for two nights before and one night after a dive trip to the Galapagos. We knew it was pricey, but did not expect it to be so luxurious. A beautiful hotel, nice pool, 4 excellent restaurants, nice receptionists and concierge staff, very nice rooms, etc. We especially liked the "free" breakfast buffet with so many different choices of excellent food and eating at the Patio restaurant. Also a great gift shop and Chocolate/Coffee store in the hotel. Great shuttle to and from the airport. We would love to stay there again.

Room Tip: The regular rooms can be kept darker at night than the high level Executive suites - which do not ha...

During our trip to Ecuador we had the opportunity to stay our first night there and our last. It's very close to the airport and the hotel provides free transport to and from the airport for you. We had an issue our first evening with the hotel booking two wedding receptions on the same night one floor below our room, needless to say the front desk people were very sweet to change our room. Our second night we had no issue. The rooms are very spacious and decorated nicely. The food is very good and the menu offers something for everyone. The entire staff of the hotel were very friendly and this contributes to a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor

Got into this hotel as part of a tour. Stayed one night each pre- and post- Galapagos. Very pleasant staff, big, comfy bed, marbled bathroom, fast elevators, excellent room service. We missed the breakfast, but it looked like a lovely buffet with an omelet-to-order station. Wi-fi is free though I can't remember if it worked well or not. The exercise room is very well kept, all machines work, and there are attendants rather than just a key entry. There's also a pool although we didn't get a chance to use it.

Room Tip: If you have a Frequent Flyer number, make sure to mention that to the reception staff. You may get p...

After comparing prices with American Chain hotels by the Airport I decided to stay at Oro Verde located downtown and a short 10-15 minute drive from the airport. This was a one night stay on my way back to Galapagos. We got our moneys worth and then some. We stayed in a beautiful suite, room service was fantastic, great bed, high quality pillows, blankets, beautiful furniture, fast internet, free shuttle…I have stayed at Hilton, Courtyard Marriott, Sonesta and others before and Oro Verde is the absolute best so far. I will be back!!

We had an early flight from Guayquil so elected to stay at the Hotel Oro Verde the night before. The stay was quite enjoyable, the room was large and comfortable and the service was excellent. The lunch buffet we had when we arrived was also very enjoyable. There is a good sized pool on the roof which we enjoyed, but the water was surprisingly cold. The stay wasn't exactly cheap (as you would expect from a member of the Leading Hotels of the World group), but we felt we had earned a night of luxury and were not disappointed. The hotel location was convenient to the airport.

This very busy hotel isn't far from the airport in Guayaquil and it felt quite new. The room was large and felt a little bit clinical as the walls were mainly bare but it was very clean and well appointed. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable which should have ensured a good nights sleep but even the comfort of the bed couldn't drown out the sound of the loud music from below our fourth floor window! After 2am we finally got some much needed rest.
The bathroom( no bath) was very nice with an excellent shower and very nice toiletries.
The hotel also boasts a very nice bar which had excellent service and lovely pub food.

Room Tip: Unless you want to join the party ask for a room as far away from the music as possible!

LAN airline put us up here when they were having their usual holiday season issues and lucky for us the airport in Guayaquil does not permit airlines to keep their delayed passengers in the terminal so they bussed us all out to either the Sheraton or the Oro Verde and needless to say, I got the Oro Verde.

Of course there were a lot of people trying to check in at once but they handled us all fairly quickly. The lobby had a bit of a musty smell but there was a TON of rain in Guayaquil during the previous days so maybe there was some excess moisture laying around.

The room wasn't gigantic perhaps 275 square feet but all the furnishings were modern which was a nice surprise as the lobby looks a bit dated. There were free sodas and waters provided in the minibar which is pretty much unheard of in 4 star hotel. The shower was great. Way above average there. The Oro Verde has a nice "classic" bar which looked like a nice place for a drink and there are a couple of restaurants. We had the buffet for dinner and although there wasn't an abundance of choices the quality was quite good.

What I like about this hotel in comparison to the chain hotels which all seem to be in the neighborhood directly west of the airport is that the Oro Verde is right n the center of downtown Guayaquil. Most people are staying in Guayaquil because they're on their way to the Galapagos so if you want to actually see some of the city, the Oro Verde gives you a chance to catch some local flavor. If you stay at the Sheraton or whatever you basically have a couple of US style shopping malls close by.
