Hotel Oro Verde Guayaquil

This hotel was a welcome surprise after a very late arrival from Miami before the start of a week-long Galapagos cruise. The front desk staff and concierge were quick to get us in our room and the security people made us feel safe at such a late hour.
The room was very spacious with an extremely comfortable bed, soft pillows, and a nice robe and paper slippers.
We stayed for the day in Guayaquil and took advantage of the central location of this hotel. It is a good walk from the hotel down to the Malecon 2000, but it is straight down Avenida 9 de Octubre so no chance of getting lost in such a bustling city. And I do mean bustling!!
The breakfast buffet was very good with an extensive selection of anything I could possibly want. The coffee shop/bakery located off the lobby has very good salads, sandwiches, and baked goods for a quick lunch or light dinner. We ate dinner one night at La Fondue, the Swiss Fondue restaurant kind of hidden down a hallway from the lobby. We were pleasantly surprised with the meal, wine, and service. Upon our return from the Galapagos cruise, we stayed again at this hotel and had dinner in the cafe (where breakfast is served). It was, again, very good with excellent service and meal choices. Normally we would have ventured out for dinner but most of the local restaurants did not start serving until 7 pm, and we were too tired from our travels to wait that long. I would highly recommend any of the hotel restaurants.
There is an outdoor pool which looked very inviting if the weather had cooperated. And there is also a spa, which our friends used and said the massage services were fantastic and very reasonable.

Located downtown and a good walk from Malecon 2000 (the amazing waterfront area), this hotel is fantastic! A delightful Business Centre with accommodating concierges who are helpful, juice station in the lobby, and hawkeye security people in the lobby keeping an eye on all activities. Was 'allowed' to stay until 7 pm to accommodate a late5r flight but this might have been because I was at a tail end of a Road Scholar guided trip and everyone else and departed by noon that day. To decompress from a 'cruise' through the Galapagos Islands and that never-ending feeling of 'sea legs', this hotel was the perfect relaxing stop. Use the massage services ($35. for an hour!) and go ahhhhhhhh. LOL

Great coffee shop off the lobby with a superb breakfast service and selection. Concierge very helpful giving me information for my adventure down avenue 9 du Octubre to the waterfront and walk back. Great coffee shop street-side near front door of hotel that has great salads for $6.00.

Room Tip: Hadf a room at the end of the hall which had a corner view of the city...nice and quiet.

I didn't think I would love this hotel as much as I do. They deal soley with diplomats and high end business clients, so the service here is amazing.Huge great free breakfast buffet. Right down the Avenida Victor Emilio (not sure of the name) are 50 great restaurants. Nice restaurants in the hotel, but a little pricey. Great french restaurant and a fondue restaurant where you cook your meats, fish, chicken, cheese, etc. at your table in boiling hot pot of oil. Loved the idea. Loved the room. The television has channels in Japanese, German, French, English, Spanish, Italian, etc. They have great room service. You can order anything on the menu anytime of the day. Even breakfast at midnight if you want. Not that I would, but you can!!!!! They have a GREAT hamburger also. Robes, slippers, chocolates, etc. are supplied. The staff is incredible. Guayaquil is quite dangerous so be careful no matter where you go.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 613 and it was right in front of the elevator, ice machine, etc.and it was great as...

Our stay at the Hotel Oro Verde followed a very active week-long Galapagos cruise. We'd already had an adventure and were ready to relax and be pampered. Oro Verde was the perfect place for this; it's an oasis of calm and gentility in the middle of a hot, bustling, rough-and-tumble city.

The service is excellent, the food is superb, and the rooms are spacious and luxurious. Little extras, like a free drink at the bar and some complimentary time in the business center (very fast internet!) were a welcome surprise. For a hotel of this class, the prices are surprisingly low, though bargain-hunters may feel a bit squeezed by the room rates.

For business or pleasure, this is the place I would choose every time in Guayaquil.

First visit to Guayaquil as a stop over on the way to the Galapagos Islands. The hotel is rated very highly locally and it does have a certain style. Travelling as a small group we had a slight problem on check-in: three male and one female traveller, the agent had only two twin rooms booked. This was resolved after a while and the lady was given her own room. Not the hotel's problem but their solution.
The rooms were large with big comfortable beds and clean if slightly tired shower rooms. The breakfast was very good with a buffet style wide range of produce and a chef on hand to prepare omelettes fresh to order. Friendly attentive staff everywhere.
The pool area was a little bit grubby and in need of some updating but the spa facility was very good with gym, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Very handy after a long day exploring the riverside area and the 444 steps up to the lighthouse.
Generally a good place to stay but not really up to the high standard promised.
Couldn't fault the staff, or the large draft beers available in the Captain's Bar.

Room Tip: The hotel is on one of the Cities main streets so ask for a rear facing room for peace.

When a hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels Of The World and has five stars, you do have high expectations. I was given a one bedroom suite in a seperate building which only accommodates suites. My suite was 544 on the fifth floor and there were only 4 suites on this floor. The suite had large living/dining room with new furniture, a large TV, fridge and a microwave. From the living room area there was an open connection to the bedroom with a comfortable and very large double bed and another large TV. I was surprised to find only a shower in a suite. There was no bath. On the minibar there was a note proudly saying that the minibar items were complimentary. However I only found a bottle of coke and fanta inside. My suite had a connecting door to the suite next door and could hear everything in the other suite. At one stage housekeeping was using the doorbell nextdoor and I was convinced it was mine. The poolarea looks really tired and the pool is small. I found my stay pleasant but would not call this hotel a leading hotel of the world.

This was my first time staying in this Hotel although I have been in Guayaquil many times before. The service in this hotel is simply phenomenal, great people with excellent attitude. Nice rooms, excellent restaurants and a very decent Internet service, in all, a truly wonderful experience.
