“a fabulous hotel”
Reviewed July 31, 2010

We had 4 wonderul nights in the Grand Hotel. Everything was perfect.
The room was spacious with a roomy bathroom . The restuarant was excellent, and the breakfast was one of the best I have experienced.
The communal areas and pool area were very pleasant.
We had flight problems and the young lady in the business centre spent an hour sorting this our for us.
An excellent hotel

When the bellman opened the door to my room, I was in shock. Based on the lobby I was expecting well maintained and lit rooms. What I got was a dark and beaten up place to crash. What it lacks in sunlight it appears to make up for in cleanliness (although I couldn't be sure cause it was so dimly lit). I was told to stay there by fellow travelers because it was a sense of security and peace and quiet after a month in Montanita. I got both those things while enjoying the cable in my air conditioned room, free 1/2 hour of internet and yummy breakfast buffet. This is a respectable place to crash if you are sick of hostels. Don't go striclty for the pool - it's pretty, next but the hotel and church which surround it block out all the sunlight. Very good walking distance to the Malecon and the park with the land iguanas.

The Grand Hotel is a convenient place to stay when going to or returning from the Galapagos Islands. It is close to the airport and a short stroll from the Malecon 2000 and the museums and galleries.

The airconditioning works well, though a little noisy, and the rooms are quiet, even those facing the main street. The rooms are adequately sized. The art works in the foyer are lovely.

The highlight is the restaurant. The service is excellent. The buffet breakfast was the most comprehensive and best that we had in all of Ecuador. The buffet lunch was equally splendid and though about twice the cost of what we paid in Cuenca, still good value. Dinner was equally good food, good service and good value.

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Guayaquil this month with my daughter and grandson. We were there on vacation and found the place quite satisfactory. The lobby is attractively furnished and well air conditioned, but the rooms are pretty plain and not well lit. They do have modern bathrooms, adequate hot water and good water pressure. The room a/c works well--an important consideration in this hot and humid coastal city. Passenger elevators are just large enough to hold one sumo wrestler--provided he is without luggage! A large and cheerful hotel cafeteria is open 24 hours daily and there is a fancier restaurant (the "1822") which has better food and table service in an attractive Spanish colonial setting.

We only spent one night in this hotel and it was nice that we were in a good location to explore the city. We were one block away from this park where the iguanas roam free and for all to enjoy. We were also a couple of blocks from the upgraded waterfront area, the Malecon, as well as the city's main shopping street.

The hotel is nice. The rooms are average but do the job. They have a pool but we never used it. They have a restaurant which we used for breakfast - good spread!

Overall, an average hotel that wishes it was more upscale.

I have stayed here many times, often alone, on business travel. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff is terrific. Would not go anywhere else in Guayaquil.

We stayed here one night before out flight to Galapagos. Hotel is a standard business hotel. Rooms are not very large but adequate, it all looks ok. Breakfast was buffet, with everything you want.
