“Good option in Guayaquil”

A one night stopover but a comfortable one. The owners have done a fine job of restoring an old townhouse facing the river and our room was very nice with aircon (thank goodness with the heat and humidity!) and great shower. Overall the hotel has some real character in one of the few old colonial streets. Breakfast offer a little limited but fine. One issue for us was that there doesn't appear to be a decent restaurant close by (you can arrange an evening meal in the hotel in advance but it seemed a bit quiet for that to us) so it was a fair walk to find one.

We only had one night in Guayaquil but the stay was lovely. On arrival we immediately felt 'home' thanks to the very nice owner of the place 'Maria'.
Rooms are very clean and very nice decorated! Breakfast was very good in terms of a B&B! Got to choose or individual prepared egg. Everything you needed was there...
Maria helps you out with all your questions about te city, resto, taxi,... She is super helpful!
Overall lovely stay!

One cannot do better than to stay at Mansion del Rio when in Guayaquil. Maria's Mansion is delightful in every way and very well located within walking distance to all the down town sites. From the lovely vista onto the river, beautifully decorated interiors and great roof top bar to catch the evening breezes, our stay was perfect. Maria is the most bubbly and welcoming hostess with great suggestions and advice.

Really exceptional hotel, with old charm, excellent location and very helpful and kind owner (Maria). I stayed there for only one night and got the best room in the hotel with the lovely, breathtaking view on the river. The hotel itself is very different from any hotel I have been to: it is a buidilng form the 20s, but completely refurbished and equipped with antique furniture. My ceiling in the room was a work of an artist, room large and nice. Perhaps staying in other, higher rooms with some stairs to climb - no elevator - may spoil the experience but mine was really great. The location is fabulous: right in front is the new walking area next to the river which - after a little cobble-stone street - continues with the Malecon 2000, great area to walk, more than 2 km long. The hill of Santa Ana with the magnificent view on the city is also around the corner (though you must climb 444 steps). The breakfast was also very, very good. All in all, great experience, highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you can choose - take room no 1 or 2.

My husband and I stayed at Mansion del Rio for the first few days of our honeymoon,en route to the Galapagos Islands. We arranged with our Travel Agency to be picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel, however when we arrived there was no-one there. We rang the hotel and Maria, without us asking, offered to come and pick us up. Within 15 mins she picked us up and drove us back to the hotel providing a guided tour on the way. The hotel itself is wonderful - lovingly restored to its former glory but with all the mod-cons included as well. Our room was gorgeous - it faced the water, had beautiful alfrescos on the ceiling and an extremely comfortable bed with lovely, quality linens.
We thought it was in a great position - it's in an old part of Guayaquil with lovely cobbled streets and artists studios. It was an easy walking distance to the main river promenade and the old city centre. We really enjoyed our day and a half there. Guayaquil itself was very interesting but for us,the real highlight was the hotel, its staff and owners. On our second night there we were invited up to join them for drinks and hors d'oeuvres on the roof terrace. Wow. We can't recommend this place enough and are just sorry its taken so long to post this.

Our two night stay in Mansion Del Rio was a very comfortable. Although the rooms are small they are very comfortable. Maria the owner is a very charming host always ready to help to give advise on restaurants and attractions. Every where you look there is something interesting to see. The owners knowledge of antiques shows in all the furnishings. Breakfast is provided whick is certainly provides a good start to the day with fresh eggs, fruits, juice, cereal, yoghurt and breads. It should be noted that the hotel has many levels, a lot of stairs, and no elevator.

My wife and I have traveled the world during the past 20 plus years and I can say this is the finest hotel we have been to during that time. The Hotel is a restored home built in the 1920s and the owner has restored it keeping in mind every detail. The owner is attentive to the travelers every need.
