We were two couples traveling to/from a week cruise in the Galapagos. Since our flight returning home would have left us at the airport for hours, we added in a tour of Guayaquil and dinner at Lo Nuestro before returning home. Boy, were we GLAD we did! Lo Nuestro is a charming, restaurant offering authentic Ecuadorian cuisine. Although it is in a very old and charming building, it is located in a very upscale location of Guayaquil. It is fine dining experience with white tablecloths, attention to every detail, and fabulous service. Menus in English are available; however, the servers English is limited, so an Spanish/English dictionary may be helpful. Be prepared to give yourself "at least" two hours, or MORE to dine there. This is not TGI Fridays, folks, this is a "Dining Experience." The waiters are VERY ATTENTIVE, but the Culture is not to RUSH you in and out of the restaurant as they do in the states. Since we had "limited time," I explained that to our Server, and he was so Very Accommodating! Why should you go to this restaurant to try authentic Ecuadorian cuisine? Because the locals are there celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. That is the mark of a truly fabulous restaurant when the "locals" go there. I also noticed that they ordered "family style." Meaning they ordered appetizers and entrees and served themselves from those plates family style because the portions are HUGE!!! My only recommendations would be to: (1) allow yourself "at least" 2 hours (or more) to dine there, and (2) make a reservation. The only regret is that we had to rush out of there to make our flight. The dessert cart looked AMAZING, but we did not have time for dessert. We so enjoyed our meal there. It was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance was incredible. Also, one final thought. For four people, our meal was $116 US, and that included bottled water, beers, Sangria (which was made with REAL, fresh fruit) AND all gratuities. We had so MUCH food, 1/2 of it didn't even get eaten. So the posts on this site stating this restaurant is over priced -- obviously didn't see that the gratuity (tip) is already added in. We left more gratuity the service was so exceptional :)

Good seafood. With two of us we ordered Paila Marinera (Marine Casserole in English menu) for 2 and Calde de Bola de Verde (Green Plantain Ball Soup in English menu). Those English menu translations are horrid.

The soup turns out to be almost a stew with meat in it. It is absolutely delicious. The Paila is really a paella in Spain or the US. It contained all kinds of seafood including fish, calamari, shrimp. It was really delicious as well. Both came in very large portions and we could have easily fed 4 with the two dishes without room for desert. The Sangria was quite nice as well.

Amazing seafood. Excellent sampling of Ecuadorean cuisine. INCREDIBLE margaritas, perhaps the best I've ever had. I won't give it a 5 Star Rating because it was too expensive for what it was.

Lo Nuestro is a must visit if you are taking visitors from another country out for some excellent Ecuadorian style cuisine. I was just there two weeks ago and enjoyed a corvina a la plancha. The dessert tray was awesome- I suggest the figs with cheese- sugar syrup or the cheese cake with fruit topping. Built into an old house with great decor but not very spacious- hard to pass behind a chair without being wedged into the wall.

This was a marvellous place to eat. We visited the restaurant before our trip to the Galapagos and it was so good that we had to go back when we returned before our flight next day. The only draw back was that very very little English is spoken, but that is made up for as they have an english menu. Everything we ate was tasty but especailly try the cream of crab soup. Unfortunaytely lobster was out of season so we could not try those dishes. A really good experience
