Just returned from a week long holiday to Trogir where we stayed for 7 nights at Tragos hotel in the centre of the old town. The whole experience from hotel to holiday destination was fabulous. Croatia is wonderful, unspoilt and authentic.
I've recently gone off the idea of staying in large impersonal and faceless hotels, so choosing Tragos based on the reviews on Trip Advisor I kind of knew what to expect. This hotel is lovely and very traditional. The staff are friendly, it is exceptionally clean and has an authentic homely feel to it that just can't be bought at the 'luxury' type hotels. The room was small with limited storage or cupboard space but at the end of the day it wasn't our intention to spend much time in it so it wasn't a problem. However it was pleasant and also had aircon, hairdryer, toiletries etc.
The only reason i haven't given Tragos 5 stars is because we were taken aback by the charges for drinks on our first day - a large beer and a glass of wine was 90 Kuna which is about £10. So we didn't bother to eat or drink there as we could get it far cheaper in the very many establishments available. Also we didn't have a sink plug in the room and the fridge didn't work. We managed to get the plug, but the fridge didn't work for the duration but we did report it.
Trogir itself is gorgeous. We loved everything about it, couldn't fault it! from the Riva to the town square the whole place is delightful and full of character. We will definitely be returning to Croatia, maybe back to Tragos and if anyone has any questions about it I'd be more than happy to help.

We had quite a nice time here; Trogir itself is a lovely small town with lots of interesting buildings and things to see, but without the mass crowds you're likely to see in more established tourist locations such as Dubrovnik.

We chose this hotel on the basis of the positive trip advisor reviews, and when got there we were warmly greeted by the Hotel Tragos manager and offered some free beers to drink in the lovely restaurant courtyard.

However upon arrival we were told that there were actually three hotels which belonged to Hotel Tragos and that we would be staying at Palace Derossi (which seems to be under different management, more on this later). We weren't aware of this when we booked and so this unsettled us a bit (we weren't sure if we were being taken advantage of and being put into a cheaper room), but we were tired after a long trip and waited until the next day to raise the issue.

When we told the Hotel Tragos manager he seemed genuinely concerned that we had been unsettled, reassured us that the hotels were of similar quality and price, discounted our meal by 10% and offered us some more free beers. We liked him.

Unfortunately the young manager at Palace Derossi didn't offer quite so good a service, which is why we've reduced the rating from 4/5 to 3/5. In particular, his knowledge of Trogir was very poor and gave us incorrect information on a number of points:

1. When we asked what excursions were available on a Saturday he told us that there weren't any. However after only a five minute walk across down the port, just to check if he was right, we found loads of them and booked ourselves onto a fish picnic with ease. (Don't laugh, it's more fun than it sounds!)

2. We told him that we needed to get to Plitvice Lakes after staying at his hotel, and asked if there were any direct routes from Trogir. He said that there weren't any, but after we asked him to double check online it turned out that this was wrong too.

3. Once we had established that it was possible to get to Plitvice, we told him that we'd like to book tickets at the bus station and asked him if it would be open on a Saturday. He told us that it wouldn't be, but after the earlier mix ups we thought we'd just go and check anyway. It was open.

So whilst he wasn't particularly rude, he wasn't particularly warming either and didn't know a lot of the useful things that a hotel manager should know if he's to provide a good service to his guests. It wouldn't be so bad if he was honest and said that he didn't know (but then made an effort to check), but gave us misinformation with the confidence of someone who did know. Had we not double checked we would have been needlessly inconvenienced and missed out on some fun activities.

By contrast, the reception staff were great and ordered us pizza to our room when we fancied a quiet night in before our big trip to Plitvice the next day.

The hotel room at Palace Derossi was nice, and closing the window blocked out the music from the street below very well. The beds were OK, although pushing two single beds together to make a double didn't work well, since there was always big gap between the mattresses. The air-conditioning worked well and free wifi internet was available for our laptops (although our phones couldn't pick it up from our room, so we had to go down to the nice little courtyard area to get a signal).

The breakfast was basic, although when we had to leave early they prepared us some breakfast bags which, strangely, were much better.

One final thing to bear in mind if you happen to be moved to a different hotel; because Palace Derossi is a B&B it doesn't have facilities for evening meals, so you'll have to go elsewhere. This isn't a problem, since there's loads of great places to eat. However if you eat at the Hotel Tragos Restaurant and put it on your Palace Derossi room bill, you will need to go to Hotel Tragos when you check out to settle it. Just account for this if you're in a rush to get home!

Overall it was quite nice, but let down by the Palace Derossi manager.

Stayed in this delightful small family owned hotel for one week. It is conveniently placed in the centre of town making sightseeing and trips out easy. No vehicles are allowed in the city but staff were on hand to help with luggage on arrival. Food at all meals was varied and excellent and the Dalmatian Evening was a gastronomic, cultural and friendly treat. The staff were friendly, helpful and had a nice, gentle sense of humour. Rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable with all amenities functioning well. This was our third visit to beautiful Croatia and one of the most enjoyable thanks to Boris and all staff at the Tragos.

Trogir is a town with narrow cobble-stone streets and no vehicle access and therefore the hotel is not that easy to find. We stayed only stayed one night and wished we were able to extend as the friendliness of the staff and warmth of the hotel is immediately evident on arrival. The double rooms have lots of space even if the bathroom is a little compact. The breakfast in their private dining room was very good.

Wheeling luggage over cobblestones is a challenge although the hotel did offer to help.

Room Tip: Like lots of old hotels in old cities, noise can be a problem. Hard to locate a room that will not...

Stayed in this hotel for one week. The owners and staff do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. When I mentioned that the beds were too hard for us, they even added softer mattresses to make them more comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and even loaned us an umbrella when it was raining. The breakfast was excellent. Thursday night with the Capella singers and five course meal and five wines was one of the highlights of our week. Thankyou to everyone at the Tragos, especially Boris, Nadia, Dobrilla, Angela, Joe & Micky. Highly recommended.

Me and my sister were excited to try a new location in Croatia and had our heart set on Trogir. We were looking for an authentic experience and Hotel Tragos seemed to fit the bill.

From our very arrival, we were blown away by the beauty of Trogir and our hotel was in the very heart of the town. A simly perfect location!

Our room was spotless, cozy and beautiful. The ancient city walls are part of the hotels interior which makes the facility incredibly authentic. Since August is known to be the hottest month of the year, I was concerned about the air-conditioning however, we had absolutely no issues during our entire 1 week stay.

The hosts went above and beyond with all our requests. We recieved 5 star service throughout our entire stay.
We were very sad to leave Hotel Tragos but will definately return, as it's our No.1 choice in Dalmatia.
