One of the most beautiful Castle in Croatia, on hill, dominates the valley. Lake offering paddling and strolling around. Hotel in the vicinity. The region offers good roads for cycling, running and climbing

Definitely worth a visit, especially for school-aged children with an interest in history. The interior is well-preserved with lots of period furniture and artwork. The paintings of former occupants are accompanied with detailed descriptions, some of which are fascinating. The outdoor grounds are extensive and attractive, good for scenic walks year-round.

Perfect castle to visit. Museum very rich, old paintings, army and stuff. Big like down the castle, very nice to see and walk around.

We were in Zagreb for a week and wanted to see something other than city life. We rented a car and drove first to Kumrovec where we visited the Old Village Museum (Marshall Tito's home and a celebration of Zagorje culture) and then on to Trakoscan Castle. I would give the castle 5 stars for spectacular surrounding parkland area, 5 stars for a view up from the parking lot, and probably 4 for the interior of the castle. The grounds of the parkland surrounding the castle are amazing....lake and dense forests. Driving there, we used small roads rather than the highway, so we passed some amazing little picturesque villages. The castle itself is a steep hike up from the parking lot, but well worth it. The view of the surrounding area is wonderful (particularly on a sunny day) and there were some very interesting rooms inside the castle. We particularly were fascinated with the large room that was "wallpapered" with the scenes of the castle regiments lined up for review. It was handpainted and included the diverse uniforms of the different units. The generals and other leaders were personalized to the point that I'm sure if you knew them, you would be able to pick them out. The other standout were the paintings done by one of the castle owners, a very talented woman indeed! Beautiful! There is a restaurant near the parking lot where many people were enjoying their afternoon lunch, but we drove on to Samobor, a wonderful little town. All in all, it was a good way to view Croatian life outside of the city.
