Just add on: I feel the best time feeling the old town's charm is early morning and latter evening. In the day time, too many touring group packed the narrow street. We spent the day time in the Punta Corrente Rovinj park, a beautiful relaxing place

It was the jewel in the crown in our Croatia trip.
Do not miss it!
The lovely allies, old town, fruit market and the view from up the hill.
Many little artists' shops.
Sit in one of restaurants/coffee places in the little marine and enjoy the view.

We loved getting lost in small alleys of the old town. There is something special to be seen in each and everyone of those.

This is one of these places which could easily turn up on the big screen in a movie (if it hasn’t already). It’s very photogenic with lots of characteristic buildings hugging narrow, hilly, stone paved streets and although it hasn’t been gentrified yet there are quite a few “artisans” setting up shop. My advice would be to see it before it changes too much.

We were only on a brief visit as part of a tour around the region but saw enough to tempt us back another time.

The entrance to the old town is via Balbi’s Arch and it’s a steep climb from there up to The Church of Euphemia which dominates the hilltop above and can be seen from most parts of the town I expect.

The Church interior is very plain and dark, so much so that we missed the fact that you can usually climb the tower there for a token fee to look out over the area. I expect that the great view mentioned by our guide would be from the tower rather than the Church surrounds as this is largely obscured by buildings and trees.

There are lots of places in the old town to get a drink or something to eat and if we’d had the time we could easily have been tempted.

Just watch the old stone paving which has been rubbed smooth with the footfall since Roman times - it was slippery even in the dry conditions we experienced however could be like an ice rink I imagine if wet.

When we descended back down to the marina through the maze of little alleyways it was also nice to look back across the rows of yachts to the collection of buildings in the old town which form a backdrop. Scene set, cut to Bond chasing the villain through the streets…
