“A beautiful and quiet Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2010

A free ferry transits passengers from that island where the modern hotel locates to the main land Rovinj hourly during the day. There were two ferry stops in the main land. If you would like to take a trip in the old town, you should get off on the second stop. Each ferry trip only takes about 10 minutes.

We had been offered with an excellent room service every day during the period of 7 nights. The room always looked nice and tidy with clean towels when we came back from the breakfast.

There were three restaurants in the hotel basement, but only one opened for customers. The buffet breakfast and dinner were good enough for people who have different tastes. The variety of foods was sufficiently supplied, even for those people came in very late. If comparing the same kind of buffet restaurants in UK, they could be given on an above arrange ranking.

Some advices:
Avoid taking a holiday to there in May. The daytime temperature was not warm enough to swim either in the sea or outdoor swimming pool and quite windy as well.

There was nothing going on during the night time in the hotel. No entertainment showing, No activity running, only four news channels could be watched in English.

To hire a bike is the easiest way to visit a very beautiful national park where the entrance was two minutes away from the hotel information centre in the main land.

Lunch costs in the main land restaurants on the average of 50-100 ku /pp (sea foods) without drinks.

Local excursions were at least 10% or 20% cheaper than the hotel offers. Only 399ku for a day trip in Vienna from Rovinj.

Do not forget to bargain in the open markets. I bought a beautiful hand-craft bottle of vodka on 90ku from the original price of 120ku (20euro in duty free shop).

Pay 10ku to the shop assistant lady in the local church, then you would be allowed to access to the tip of church (highest place in the whole town).

we previously stayed at the hotel parc in rovinj and had a lovely holliday in 2008 so last year we decided to go back to rovinj and try the istra. This hotel is fantastic the rooms are lovely ours had a sea view. The food is amazing there is a huge choice from mussells, fish, pork, beef, past, salads, pizza everything! The island itself is stunning. we swam in the sea most days and didnt use the pools much. The only small downside was the indoor pool was not very clean and the top outside pool had a few chipped tiles. However as we were mostly in the sea this did not detract from our holliday and we will definitely stay here again. The staff were lovely and the maistra cocktails are a must!

The hotel is in a fantastic location and you can have a lovely relaxing and chilled out holiday.
We went for just a week and even in the peak of the season it did not appear to be too busy.
We spent the days on the adjoining Maskin Island. The main island where the hotel is located is fine, but around the pool it is very busy and just like any other hotel in Europe. We figured that to make the most of the holiday it was better to explore both of the islands. The only critical comment of the area around the hotel was the selfish attitude of guests - we had a poolside room and it was amazing that from 06:00 onwards the number of people out there reserving poolside loungers with their towels. The best thing was on the single day that it rained first thing in the morning, there were a lot of wet towels!
Maskin Island was very quiet with lots of places to sunbath and relax, much of the island is naturist but the areas facing the hotel are fine if you want to keep your clothes on!
The islands would be great if they were just for the hotel residents, but unfortunately they are open to the public and from 11:00 or so boatloads of day trippers arrive - but I guess that the hotel needs to make money from the trippers.
The food is fine in the hotel, it is a buffet and self service and there is pleanty of choice. Our only complaint would be that drinks are very expensive. You need to take a trip by the hotel boat to Rovinj to go shopping for drinks!
A great holiday and we certainly would go back.

I'll keep it simple: Excellent hotel, rooms perfectly adequate and clean, if a little on the small side, good facilities, unique location, good food from the buffet considering the large number of guests. Rovinj is small wonder, beautiful clean winding streets to just amble away the hours in, friendly people, gorgeous sunsets, ample shops and numerous places to eat & drink. There is an excellent wine bar called Piazza Grande in the middle of old town, with a good restaurant directly opposite.
September is ideal if you don't want to fight the crowds, the weather was fantastic and the sea still warm and crystal clear.
We did several trips, all were good, Rijeka and Opatija are worth checking out if you want a bit more hussle & bussle.
Istria really has everything you could ever want for a memorable holiday- you will not be dissapointed with Croatia.

Although the hotel from the exterior may not be the most welcoming, the rest makes up for it. From landing until in our rooms it was 90 mins. The view when wating for the boat to take us to Hotel Istria was breath-taking. The boat is fairly large and comfortable, it also runs a very good service to and from the mainland. First impression of the hotel 'it is not the best looking', but it is nice and clean.
The rooms are adequate and quiet, and regularly cleaned. The hotel staff were very friendly especially the restaurant manager who could not do enough for us.
The pools were very clean (indoor and out). The views from the rooms were breath taking, we faced the pool area and you could never get tired of looking out from the balcony. The only problem we found, was the food at lunch time was quite limited, mostly on offer was the same sandwiches in 4 locations. The pizza restaurant however, was very nice.
I would recommend this to anyone as it is very special, just listing to the waves and being surronded by sea views at all angles.
Rovinj is just the nicest place ever.
We will be going back to celebrate our 10th Anniversary.

I am not sure how they justify the price and the star rating. The hotel is ugly, the rooms are very basic, the reception staff are rude and the food is average. That said the islands is very pretty but I can't give the hotel staff credit for that. It is in desperate need of a full makeover!
