Hotel Eden
Ranked #6 of 23 Hotels in Rovinj
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Just spent a week in the Hotel Eden - wish it could have been longer...

Built in the 70s and set on the edge of a national park the hotel is a short walk from the sea and a leisurely 15 -20 minutes stroll to the centre of Rovinj itself.

As a usually quite dry area (compared to the UK!) the rooms, facilities and grounds are exceptionally clean. All the staff are quite friendly and many engaged in conversation and jokes on a regular basis, despite the obvious language barriers.

The week we stayed was just days after the heaviest rain for a decade. The only outstanding problem from this downpour was the indoor pool being closed. A problem? No way! The outdoor salt-water pool area is excellent!

There is much to do if you actually want to do something. The options are not thrust in your face but are there if you look. Hire a bike for an hour for a few quid, take a dancing or archery lesson, walk the forrest paths, visit the beautiful town of Rovinj, sample the regions wines and countryside, take a trip to Pula or Porec, the list goes on...

Only a fussy eater could find anything wrong with the food. The buffet service allowed for dozens of combinations on the plate with every day bringing options for typical British meals for those with a restricted pallette and a range of local and regional foods for those who realise they are in a foreign country along side people from other countries.

The only time there was any problem was when an entire party of some 20 to 30 German tourists decended on the dining room at once, running the staff off their feet for some 20 minutes!

However, if you want a rich nightlife, disco and wall to wall action this is not the place for you.

Just returned for a wonderful week at this hotel. Lets be clear, if you are looking for fun filled nightlife, top of the range amenities and activities from dusk till dawn then you are going to be disapointed. However, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, relaxing, friendly hotel you cant go wrong. We were lucky, it was beautiful weather, however the indoor pool wasnt working due to the worse rain they have had in twn years a frew days before we arrived. Hardly their fault!
We cant fault the food, the choice was amazing! and the saltwater pools are a piece of heaven themselves. If the entertainment laid on each evening had been a bit more varied and the air conditioning worked better, this would have been a five stars from us. It has been 20 years since I was last in this part of the world, and then I had lived there for 18 months. I went back worried that memories were making me think Rovinj was better than it actually is, all I can say is Ive falled in love with the area again and my stay at the Eden contributed. Thank you, I wont be leaving it 20 years before coming back.

This is a nice hotel, a bit older, but clean. For a business trip is quite useful, but I would not stay there for a summer vacation. As far as I could see, there were no rooms with direct sea view and not a direct hotel beach. However, there was a very nice outdoor swimming pool area, although the inside pool was out of order. The price we paid for a small room with to a parking lot was a bit lower that a 4 star hotel on the 7th Avenue on Manhattan. Breakfast buffet was ordinary, but the restaurant staff was either confused by many guests or not very ambitious on leaving a good impression.
The hotel is on a 10 minute ( next to the sea) walk from the city center, but again it is not the most beautiful, nor the most modern, nor the most convenient hotel in the area.

Just returned from a brilliant 2 week holiday at the Hotel Eden with my partner.

It is obviously an older hotel and some parts of the building are obviously dated while others have been modernised but it is kept spotlessly clean. The reception area is a huge, very ornate faux marble affair with large seating areas and the Aperitif Bar which also has a large outdoor terrace with modern patio furniture which is a very nice place to take a morning coffee or a pre or post dinner drink. The main client group seemed to be older guests with a few young couples and families. The majority of guests were german, with the next biggest group being russian and us brits being the minority along with the italians.

Our holiday was booked with Thomson and it does seem Thomson guests are allocated the standard rooms at the front of the hotel. Not a problem to us as our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, the beds comfy and there was a bathroom with a large shower and towels were changed daily. There was a modern TV with channels in different languages (BBC News channel for us brits). All rooms are air conditioned.

The hotel has a huge swimming pool set in extensive grounds which are shared with it's 5 star sister hotel, the Lone, which is directly next door. The pool was completely renewed for 2013 and it seems the surrounding buildings were too. There pool area itself is very large, and comprises 3 interconnected pools on different levels and a children's pool and plenty of sunbeds both in the pool area itself and throughout the grounds so there is never a problem getting a sunbed at any time of day. This is the first hotel where I've seen no reserving of sunbeds. There is a pool bar which serves reasonably priced drinks and snacks and the hotel supplies pool towels.

All the staff were friendly and helpful, we spoke mainly to the maids, the Aperitif bar staff, the pool bar staff and the staff in the buffet restaurant and the Oleander restaurant. There was a live music act on in the stage area by the pool most evenings and these were usually pretty good.

The food selection at this hotel is huge! Yes, items were repeated throughout the 2 weeks we were there but there were so many choices you didn't need to have the same thing twice. Breakfasts consisted of hot and cold food including omellettes cooked to order. The fried eggs, scrambled eggs, pancakes and waffles were all cooked behind the food counters so you could see they were fresh. Dinners consisted of pizzas, pastas, rice dishes, cooked meats, seafood, hot vegetables and a huge salad station. Despite it being busy we were never kept waiting for coffee at breakfast or for someone to take our drink order at dinner. If I had any fault to pick with the food it would be that I found the desserts too sweet (my partner did too) but there was a selection of fresh fruit to choose from too.

Also part of the hotel is the Oleander restaurant where we ate lunch sometimes and dinner twice, The food is delicious and the staff very friendly here. Their pizzas are the best I've tasted anywhere.

Less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel brings you to a sheltered inlet with crystal clear water (which is a very nice place to watch the sunset in the evening with boats moored and a tiny island out to sea in the distance). Turn right and 10 minutes gentle stroll takes you to the start of the harbour area and a further 15 minutes gentle stroll takes you all the way around the harbour to the start of the old town and the base of the hill with the church of Saint Eufemia on top. Turn left and a path takes you on a beautiful coastal walk along the woody, rocky coast overlooking the sea and the numerous islands just offshore.

Rovinj is not a resort of night owls but a perfect place for a chilled, relaxed holiday and the Eden is a great place to stay, We would certainly recommend the resort and the hotel.

Stayed here for 4 night on tour around Croatia and Italy. I thought the hotel was very nice - I think we were in one of the cheaper rooms (view of car park, over main entrance), which was very roomy and with a handy balcony.
Thought the sunbathing/pool area was fantastic, the nicest I have ever seen - large and lots of choice about where to spend your day.
Ten minute walk to all the restaurants and bars of Rovinj.

Every thing is great about this hotel, rooms, staff, location, pool area. Except the quality of the food.bland and repetitive.Speaking to other guests throughout the week we were there (7th-14th Sept) all said the same.Very impressed with Rovinj and Croatia as a whole and will make a return trip but not to this hotel. Another guest who was making her 5th trip to the Eden Hotel said this was the worst the food had been.Perhaps they are having to find away to pay for the fantastic pool refurbishments this year......

We stayed for more than a week in this hotel and all of us never had a dull moment.

The reception area to be honest looks nice but typical, for real 2015 style hotel you will probably be wanting the sister Hotel Lone next door, but this one has a spacious and friendly appearance and is well laid out with modern furniture etc. The lady at the information / activity desk was very friendly and helped us rent a very reasonably prices rental car to visit Pula (for the excellent Gladiator Spectacular).

Hotel Eden is great, the location is fantastic, as it is exactly the right distance from the sea, we could see a close up beautiful view of the sea with boats sailing into the sunset from our room, less than 5 minutes walk past the large swimming pools and through the modern and spacious hotel grounds with wide grass space and towering huge pines providing perfect shaded areas along the walkways and perhaps a cute black squirrel if you keep your eyes open.

The food was lovely, I had omelette almost every morning with cut meats, breads, fruit, yogurts, and the evening meals were just a good with a decent number of specials like varieties of pastas, mussels, veal and baked pork, wide ranges of vegetarian food, cheeses, fruits and ice creams for the kids. In short there was something for everyone. The evening drinks were of course not included, they were comparable to the price of other restaurant drinks and after all they have to cover their costs somehow. Breakfast drinks were free and limitless-ly served by the excellent staff.

The new swimming pools are great, this is one hotel where there were just hundreds of spare sun loungers everywhere all brand new with big adjustable sun umbrellas etc, cheap (~8 Kuna) and delicious ice creams in a wide range of great flavours from the bar by the pool, fantastically modern architecture around the pool and the plush but excellent value Oleander pizza/grill restaurant, and easily accessible entertaining live outdoor shows almost every night.

The pools seem, at my best guess, to be fed with filtered sea water, aside from the slight saltiness they were perfect, large enough to be able to swim freely and not be tormented by the surprisingly few kids, crystal clear and very clean at the same time shallow enough to be able to let the kids run riot without concern for their safety.

After a 2 minute walk from the pool, you are out on the coast, with the clear blue Adriatic waters with little silver fish and a slightly gravelly beach for the kids to play again. Along the coast are two perfect places to choose from, to the left there is the beautifully rugged coastline path, perfect for an hour or two bike ride, with places for climbers to ascending the shear rock faces and abundant scented pine forests. After a pleasant hour bike ride along the coast there is a substantial set of campsites which depending on your preference for fully clothed European campers may be worth a visit or a wide berth, think "Antoine de Caunes".

In the other direction there is the pretty little historic town of Rovijn. By following the route along the coast, you get a beautiful vista of the church on the hill and the old little houses propped up along the way. The marina and restaurants along the way keep it an pleasant 30 min stroll along the marina & quay passing good value ice-cream shops, ice slushies the odd souvenir shop etc and various 1-2 hr boat trips on offer.

All of this made for a nice stay, but what really made it special for us was the Animation team, Arijan with his boundless energy and enthusiasm, Sara, the Matejs, Vjekoslav and Nicolina and all the others. The kids felt like they always had friends around them and the number of great activities made the visit relentlessly fun and entertaining, shooting at targets in the archery, while the kids were being looked after for free in mini-club, ping pong tournaments, speedminton, capoeira classes for the energetic, Salsa and Zumba with a light aquarobics at the end before getting ready to eat till you can't walk, after this, we could watch the kids do mini-bingo and then head to the show at 9:30 pm.

After all this a quick trip to the spa might be a good idea for the morning, its spacious and seems to be brand new with Sauna & Steam room next to the indoor pool and big gym is a lovely quick getaway all included as part of the hotel. If you are up early and out after breakfast, then there could be a Tai chi or Stretching class for you to join in.

If you really get bored, if this is possible, then a quick stroll round hotel Lone or the artistic shops in town will keep you busy till dinner! The wifi is free (although slows down a little at peak times e.g. during the early evening).

The rooms for us were perfect and the views still impressed me right until the last day. The weather we had was probably a little unusual as it included a number of thunderstorms at night however in mid-late summer, this never lasted long and the days were always warm, dry with big blue skies.

This is the best all round place I have stayed in, and the reason that this review sounds a bit too perfect is because for us this time it was. (please feel free to read my other reviews if you are in any doubt)

Thanks Arijan, and all the others from the Animation Team for making our holiday really fantastic.
