Just returned home from a fabulous holiday in beautiful Rovinj. My family and i really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Eden and are really kicking ourselves for not booking longer!!! Compared to the ultra modern Lone, Eden is showing its age on the exterior. Once inside every element is really nice. The star of show has to be the new pool area, absolutely stunning!!!! The location of the hotel is perfect, with a short stroll into town and an even shorter stroll to one of the many small beaches, with beautiful clear water. All the staff in Eden where very pleasant, which is a stark contrast to the interaction I had with restaurant staff in the it's sister Hotel Lone(slight blip). Lots of choice at breakfast, and even managed to use and enjoy the spa on a few occasions. Already planning another holiday in Rovinj and Eden next year, but longer than 7 days!!! Great holiday.

Just returned after staying at the Eden for one week – what a place! It is amazing and fantastic in every way and the icing on the cake is the surrounding scenery and the wonderful staff - this place has EVERYTHING!

THOMSON/TUI
We booked with Thomson and as always they proved their worth and we will book with them again (we say that everytime but because it’s true!)

Flight times were fabulous both ways – outgoing we arrived at the hotel about lunchtime so we had all afternoon to get our bearings and the swimming pool and cold beer made this an enjoyable task! On both the outgoing and return flights, the plane was new and there was more leg room (especially considering this is such a short flight – only about 2 hours) and generally it was much more comfortable than some other short-haul flights we’ve endured. Cabin crew were efficient and friendly and had everything in stock that we wanted to buy, even on the return flight. Unfortunately, they still have that irritating child doing the safety video but needs must.

Our Thomson Rep, Nenad was one of the most efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly reps we’ve ever had and he is Croatian but his English is perfect (as I imagine he is in other languages too). This is his first year as a Rep for Thomson and he is a credit to them – the Welcome meeting is well worth going to because he is so knowledgeable about the area of Rovinj and about his country that it is worth going to just for that. However, he is also very organised and his ‘pitch’ is just right – he doesn’t drag it out for ages and he’s not pushy but tells you everything you want to know about the excursions available so you can then decide if it’s for you or not – which may sound daft as that it what a Rep is supposed to do but he does it so well that you don’t need to then ask him anything else to find out more before you book it or not. He’s also at the hotel most days and is very approachable and helpful. He’s a genuinely nice person who clearly takes pride in his work and to be honest, Thomson (and the Eden Hotel) are as lucky to have him represent them as we were to have him as our Rep – there is no doubt that he will go far in life.

EXCURSIONS
We only did 2 trips (as we were only there one week and there’s so much else to see and do at the hotel and in the town of Rovinj) but both of the trips were well worth it and good value for money. The ‘BBQ Cruise’ is probably one of the best boat trips we’ve ever been on and the scenery is so beautiful. It was interesting to hear a little about the history of what we were seeing along the coastline – which the captain did in at least 3 different languages and he made it fun too. The live music was also fun and a bit different. All three crew on the boat worked incredibly hard and wanted you to have a good time – which we all did and although the constant flow of free wine may have lubricated and fuelled our laughter it was nevertheless a genuinely great 5 hours spent on a really good boat trip that was a little bit different to all the others we’ve been on before. The other trip we did was to Poreč (Thomson do this because the local transport only allows you to spend an hour or so at Poreč before you have to get the return bus back to Rovinj) and this was a great half-day out. All of the four hours or so you spend there are ‘free time’ so you can do what you want. We had a little stroll around, bought some presents for our loved ones back in rainy, cold England, had a leisurely lunch and then a swim in the crystal clear sea followed by a couple of glasses of wine at the gorgeous beach bar near the jetty – perfect! However, if you prefer culture and history, etc. then Poreč has this to offer too!

THE HOTEL
You will have to experience it yourself to fully appreciate that no-one else can describe it enough to do it justice! The grounds of the hotel are beautiful from wherever you look from and it is such a tranquil and heavenly place to be.

Check-in was quick and our luggage was brought to our room before we’d even finished looking and seeing what the view was like from our balcony – which was quite simply breathtaking. The rooms are spacious and well-designed with plenty of wardrobe space (even if you take as many clothes as me) with a full-length mirror and the ‘desk’ is big enough to leave all your clutter on it without the room looking untidy! There’s also a great safe in the room that is easy to use and tells you when the ‘door is closing’ and when it is ‘closed’! Bathroom had a fantastic shower and plenty of towels along with anything else that you may want or need. The fridge we had in our room wasn’t brilliant but it chilled the wine from the nearby supermarket nicely enough for us to later enjoy it on the balcony!

The food is delicious and has everything imaginable for breakfast and a fantastic selection for your evening meals as well. The food is hot, cooked freshly and is delicious. We’re both vegetarians but never struggled to find plenty of choices in what we wanted to eat (and I’m picky!) I love pasta but the hot dishes contained meat and the chef obviously noticed my disappointment when he confirmed this and he went to the trouble of doing a meat-free sauce for me – which was lovely of him and it tasted divine. The hygiene standards at this hotel are faultless and all of the staff are very friendly and provide impeccable service – not just in the restaurant/dining room but everywhere else in the hotel.

The Oleander restaurant is near the pool and beach and their food is also gorgeous. We had lunch there a couple of times and like everything else at this hotel, it is faultless. Their standards and quality of service are exceptionally high and the food is delicious. The Oleander is also a great place to be later in the evening as they have various live entertainment which is also excellent and befitting of such a classy hotel. Early evening, we liked the piano bar/terrace area and the half-price drinks between 5-6pm went down very well before dinner. It was lovely to chat to other guests at both places and thank you to all of you who made our holiday even better – it was lovely to meet every one of you.

When we booked this holiday the Thomson brochure showed the ‘old’ swimming pool which is no longer there and to be fair, the hotel’s website did as well when I had a look a few weeks before we went. This wasn’t a problem as the new swimming pool is ten times better than the one pictured in the brochure and as the hotel are so well organised I imagine that they have updated their website so take a look! This is also the first time that I’ve been abroad and the pool area is not dangerously slippery so top marks to the hotel for that too. Beach/pool towels are provided (which are a proper size) and seemed fairly new - i.e. not frayed or tatty and they are always soft (which is a bonus if you’re a bit tender due to sunburn!) The pool bar was great – fantastic ice-creams that rival Italy’s and the local beer and wine is lovely but if you prefer ‘brand names’ they also have all of these in stock.

The entertainment/activities team work extremely hard (don’t have a day off at all during the summer months) and they are friendly and great fun. Being ‘active’ (i.e. exercise of any form) is not my thing on holiday (or at home for that matter) but my mum is and she enjoyed the aqua aerobics one day and was thrilled about the opportunity of having a go at Nordic Walking – which she thoroughly enjoyed thanks to Matej as he explained all about this ‘sport’ as well as making it interesting and great fun. He is a lovely guy and has a great sense of fun about him whilst also being extremely professional and competent. I thank him for being so lovely to my mum and for the laughs we both had whilst chatting to him. He is a real asset to the hotel and I hope they know that!

Although I’m not into ‘exercise’ we did hire a bike one day and it was really good fun and a great way to see more of the coastline and the woodland park – beautiful everywhere you looked and so lovely to not see any litter or such like. We also walked to the old town of Rovinj a few times and it really is as great as others have said. It is a charming and vibrant place with lots of character and has so many lovely cobbled streets that all have something different to offer and although we tried, we didn’t manage to see them all! The old town is lovely during the day (and Sergio’s pizzeria is not so packed so you’re guaranteed a table – pizza’s were fabulous and massive – don’t be fooled by the size choice of having either ‘baby’ or ‘normal’ – normal is so huge that it overhangs the plate!). We personally preferred the old town in the evening and found a lovely little bar where you could sit on cushions on the rocks by the sea and had a great view of watching the sunset.

I can’t believe that some people have moaned about the Hotel Eden – and I do mean moan because there is nothing to genuinely complain about. We stayed there in June and I am bewildered as to what it is these moaners actually want when they go on holiday – in fact I wonder why they ever bother going anywhere because they must be such miserable people if they can’t see the wonder of this hotel over and above their minor gripes such as ‘no kettle in your room’ - what an absolutely devastating and catastrophic nightmare this must have been – of course they could have called the Reception or room service who would have been happy to run around after them and get no thanks at all for it! I wish England had a hotel equivalent to the Eden for it’s beautiful grounds, it’s high level of cleanliness everywhere you looked and never-ending hard-work by staff who do it all with a genuine smile.

In fact all Croatians seem to take a special pride in wanting to make your holiday special – and they do this incredibly well. They are all proud of their country and they have reason to be so – we’re privileged to have been able to visit this beautiful country and to stay at such a wonderful hotel – we wish we were there now!

We booked with Thomson and our flight was good and only took 1hr 50mins into Pula. The Croatian staff at the airport were very helpful, more so than at Gatwick and we were met at the foot of the plane steps with our buggy and fasttracked through passport control.Note on our return we got the same treatment in Croatia but had a 25 minute walk through Gatwick without our buggy and with a irriatble baby.1st impression of the hotel was it looked out of place amongst the traditional Croatian buildings you see as you arrive. The town has the feel of an Italian Tuscan town and is very easy on the eye.We had asked for a low room with a garden view--which we were told wasnt possible. The first room we saw was up a flight of steps..the lifts dont serve this floor we were told.Upon entering the room it was small, dated and had a view over the car park.We returned to the desk and asked for another room and were offered room 501 on the top floor. This room wasnt much bigger but had a better view and was slightly better decorated.Once our travel cot arrived which the maid couldnt put up we unpacked and were left with a small area of carpet around our 2 single beds for us to manouvere around and our 11 month old crawling baby to explore. We also discovered there are no kettles in the room so we asked reception for a kettle and were told they were not permitted due to electrical restriction. We therefore had to go to the bar every night to request that our bottles e filled up to make up our babies milk.Back to the bathroom which was small and no big enough for a family of 3.Upon exploring the hotel we found it was a case of the old and new..Most of the hotel decor looks dated and in need of modernising but the spa and new pool area are beautiful as are the hotel grounds. The pool bar and restaurant are also new so very good and although overpriced compared to the restaurants and bars in town it was extortionate. We went to the pool everyday and its spotlessly clean. The pool is seawater so is a bit salty and our daughter didnt like it if she swallowed any.Its also unheated so can be a bit cold but equally refreshing when its hot as it was when we visited. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and even more in the grounds surrounding the pool which have plenty of natural shade. Our daughter loved the pool.It is the best thing about the hotel. As for dining,we were half board so breakfast was cheeses, meats, made to order omlettes and eggs, fatty bacon, frankfurter sausages, tomatoes and a few other hot selections,Pastries, waffles, cereal, yoghurt and plenty of fresh fruit. There is a coffee and juice machine which is free.Dinner consisted as a whole on nearly everynight of pizza, pasta or risotto,Veal in a sauce, chicken in a sauce,Pork steaks,a hand carved joint-this must of been the show cooking as i saw nothing else or nobody doing any show cooking unless you class frying eggs or making omlettes-anyhow potato in the form of croquettes or chips, tinned veg, some fresh veg and a couple of fish dishes. There was also cheese, meats, salads, bread, soups and fir dessert pastres, fresh fruit, tinned fruit and ice cream.A good selection but after 4 days of repitition it gets boring and you hanker a proper meal. There were some additions--pork.kebabs,meatballs and mixed grill aka a beefburger. The dining area itself is again dated but we had to ask 3 times for the highchair to be cleaned as it hadnt from breakfast or the night before. We took to cleaning it ourselves. Also no free water at the tables and drinks are massively overpriced do can be expensive. We took to eating in town at lunchtime to vary our diet and enjoy the Istrian cuisine and most guests we spoke to were equally fed up with the lack of variety in the restaurant. To the best bits about the Eden apart from the pool, its location and the town of Rovinj itself. It truly is beautiful. The hotel is next to a lovely nature reserve ideal for daytime and evening walks and early.morning jogs. The beaches are rocky but the sea is clear and the whole nature reserve is stunning. The walk into town takes about 30 minutes around the marina and past more restaurants than i could count plus you have the stunning view of the old town across the clear waters. We did the walk everyday and had lunh at some lovely places. If you like pizza head to Pizzeria de Sergio on Grisia as you walk up the cobbles to the church.Apart from pizza we had some nice fish dishes, risottos and ice cold beers and its very reasonable. The restaurants rarely have highchairs but are more the willing to accomodate you.In the old town itself there is also a daily market and some great places for ice creams. We walked up to the church one day.The views are stunning but the cobbles are very slippery and its hard work with a buggy. So on a whole we had a beautiful holiday an our time in Rovinj.Would we come back, yes without a doubt but not to The Eden, maybe we would pay a bit more and stay at The Lone. The Eden has the right idea and some great aspects but its not suitable for families with babies, the rooms are just too small and dont have the required facilities. Also our room was unhoovered one day and had spiders webs in the corners which our daughter found for us!!.Go to Rovinj, maybe stay B and B as there are so many great places to eat you will not be dissapointed in how beautiful the place is.

Just returned from the Hotel Eden after a week's holiday - the weather was great and the position of the hotel could not have been better. However this is not a four star hotel - the room we had was at the side and had a very small balcony and no view whatsoever - the balcony was probably about 2 foot wide. The room itself was okay but it needs an update and there was hardly any space between the bed and the dressing table so there was no way that you could actually sit on the chair when it was pulled out. The mirror is a long strip on the wall just above the dressing table and I had to sit on the bed to see when I was drying my hair. As others have mentioned it did take quite an effort to get in and out of the shower as it is over the bath and the bath is exceptionally high off the floor.
The food was fine - especially the selection of fresh fruit - but it appeared to be the same every night. Hamburgers were on the menu three nights in a row - called a mixed grill one night - but just hamburgers! The staff were all extremely friendly and on the whole the price of drinks was okay - you just didn't get a very good measure.
The pool area was lovely and there were plenty of sunbeds but not all had umbrellas- but there were plenty of shady places out of the sun and pool towels are available.
Rovinj is a lovley town but it did appear to be quite quiet in the evenings - as was the hotel. There was some live music in the evenings but you had to go to the pool grill restaurant area and the first night we went it finished at 10.15 - so wasn't really worth the effort.
Nice to see but don't think I will be back.
