“Perfect stay”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We stayed with my husband for few days in August. The hotel itself is really nice. Cleaning perfect. Location from the city centre is in walking distance. Interesting spa. But, the reception staff not really great. There is girl who is really slowly, unpleasure in communication with the guests, not smiling, other staff are just fine. Cleaning lady was friendly, spa staff also. We used 2 restaurants, but I would recommend the eat in the city centre.
Hotel is new, clean, in good location, rooms are fine with balcony and great bathroom with a good cosmetics.

Room Tip: Ask for the hight floors

So....back again from Lone! I must say that every year (this is the second summer in this perfect property) we come back more overwhelmed!
Where to begin; perfect location, only steps from Punta Corrente (half island where you can go at the beach or run around), 15 minutes nice walk to the city center, amazing architecture (new design with such a great details, you just wish to stay there), unbelievably friendly and helpful staff in restaurants.....Yes....that is the right holiday...when you come back home smiling.... Mini Club for kids now is open for the whole day (10 a.m. – 8 p.m.) which makes perfect for parents to organize themselves! Staff in Mini Club are really nice and great with kids.
Upon arrival we got an upgrade from Superior to Jazz room. Actually, I do not know how to explain our satisfaction with this type of room. You have your own Jacuzzi on the perfect terrace...this was such a fun for our 3,5 year old daughter and you can only imagine how happy we were.... If you are coming in the summer time and have some extra money to spend, definitely go for your own Jazz... :)!
Staff in all restaurants are more than nice and helpful, so special thanks to all of them since for making a great atmosphere. For breakfast you can find a great choice of everything, so, we enjoyed a lot, especially since the breakfast is served until 11 o'clock. So, there was no hurry....it was easy and relaxing, exactly how the holiday should look like.
Few things I would like to suggest are:
Mini Club should have an open space for kids (something like hotel Eden has – a playground among the trees for example).
A-la-Carte restaurant should change the dinner menu since the menu is exactly the same as last year or simply add few new meals. Actually, if you are aiming to have regular guests, coming every year or even few times a year, you should consider changing / adding the menu from time to time. Also, sushi bar offers sushi only twice a week. My suggestion is to either have sushi bar or not. Since, the summer time in Croatia is a great time for restaurants along the coast to have fresh fish, it would be good to have possibility to have sushi every day. After all, I haven't seen sushi on menus in Rovinj restaurants, so, it would be great to attract other guests from Rovinj to "fight" for a table in your restaurant.
Parking issue....hmm...that should have been done a year ago!
All in all, this was a perfect holiday.....and can't wait to come back again, hopefully....soon!

Room Tip: Jazz rooms with Jacuzzi are definitely great choice!

Design of the hotel is incredible, interior also, it is completely Croatian work. We felt very comfortable in the spacious and nicely finished room, and the balcony is fabulous, especially with the seaview. I didn't like reading lights because they don't give enough light. Breakfast was rich, but first morning there was a row because they did not prepare for the full occupation. Around hotel there are nice walkaways and the sea is just few meters away, and to the center of Rovinj there is nice 15 min walk by the sea. Interior pool is quite nice, but I didn't like the spa zone with saunas and small pool.

Room Tip: ask for room at the east side with seaview if you want deluxe room, take first floor with bath on t...

We stayed at Hotel Lone for a 10 day family hotel - 2 adults and our 7 year old son. When we first arrived we were a little concerned as they did not seem able to find our reservation, however after an initial panic they found us and promptly provided an upgrade to a corner suite from a family on the second floor. The suite was very nice with 2 separate balconies, a huge bathroom and a stylish bedroom and lounge, divided by sliding doors - this meant our son had his own room which is always a plus.

The hotel is quite a large place and I think this perhaps explains why, as others have said, it feels a little less exclusive than perhaps it should - it's not a boutique type place. Breakfast is ample, though some things weren't really to our taste - very odd scrambled eggs! Coffee however, was really good and the waiting service was plentiful so although busy, it was always easy to get a refill. We also used the ground floor restaurant 'L' for two meals - it was really very good and we were impressed. They also have a kids menu which went down well with our lad.

The gym facilities are great and we used them a lot with excellent equipment - they could really use a second AMT machine though.

As has been mentioned previously, the hotel shares a pool with its neighbour, Hotel Eden. That does feel a bit more down market and they really do need their own pool (apparently next year). My son ended up preferring the indoor pool at the Lone.

The town of Rovinj is charming - somewhere between a fishing port and a resort town however, it is quite a long walk if you want to get right into the old town - it's a good 25 mins brisk walk if you want to get into the heart of things.

The Hotel can arrange trips out. We would recommend the boat trip run in conjunction with the Monte Mullini next door. They also arranged a Truffle hunting trip which was great fun for our son. Our guide was excellent and well informed.

The only downside for us and it was really irritating, was the thumpy music which emanated from both the Eden and later into the early hours from some disco on the other side of the Eden. It meant you had to have the balcony doors closed at night which, for someone who doesn't like aircon, was a bit of a pain.

Overall, we would recommend the Lone - we had a lovely relaxing holiday. The design is very striking and the staff all helpful and friendly. Should also add that there is a small kids club. Our son went down a couple of times, and seemed to quite enjoy it for a couple of hours.

Room Tip: A sea view means you will get disco noise. The rooms behind may not have such a good vista but you...

We stayed in the middle of August as a family with 2 kids and interconnecting rooms. Everything you can read in the reviews is accurate: the design of the hotel is brilliant, the rooms are cosy and comfortable. However, somehow and as my daughter put it, the hotel is a collection of bedrooms and a nice spa - it lacks a place to unwind, a bar indoor or outdoor to relax after a long day of sun, to share a good private time among friends or family. The only bar is at the reception level tucked in a corner close to the terrace where it feels like a waiting lounge with arriving and departing guests. The a-la-carte restaurant on the ground floor is as close as it gets to a convivial place to stay with friends but the design wooden chairs are very uncomfortable. So, to make a long story short, there is no place in the hotel where you can just relax, there is no piano bar, nothing like this and this is a major short coming.

Now, about the settings and surroundings: the hotel is 100mm from the public waterfront - but there is no beach, just a promenade and if you do hire a bike, you can spend plenty of times along the beautiful coastline, which is, keep it in mind, rocks. Beautiful, but crowded - and not really clean, it is just impossible to go after all cigarette buts left over by thousands of people into the rocks and pebbles and this adds to the lack of exclusivity to the place.

On the plus side: the food is very very good, both a la carte and the buffet restaurants offer extraordinary value for money.

On the minus side: getting a table at breakfast time feels like boarding a ryanair flight where everyone is left to find a table on his own - good luck if you are a family of 4. They should rather make you wait and allocate a table to you, which is secured once you go to the buffet and not taken by another family. The entire buffet in the morning is amazing but getting to it feels like a salmon going up the river - and the tables are very close to each other. I counted less than 50cm, so it feels all but not relaxed at all, especially when most of the families are all on their iPads or iPhone at breakfast, it feels just cheap.

This is a wonderful country and the old town is beautiful. Do use the free boat from the Hotel, do rent bikes and explore, but this is not a place where you feel exclusive. The owners have a chance to change this, and they should grab it if they want to reach out to guests from Western Europe. The should use one of the free spaces to make it a lounge, with dividers, where you could enjoy one of their great wines, under the sound of real good music, a live band and a singer would be a must.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the other side of the swimming pool where you still get a view of the sea, but avoi...

Dear SwissNomad,
Thank you very much for your in-depth review and comments, which I think reflect very much how we see our Hotel ourselves. I am very happy thta you enjoyed the hospitallity of our team
and all the services.
The pool definetely will be brand new next year, the works is scheduled to start in November this year.
We also found a solution for the music at Hotel Eden and bit by bit will take care of all the little details which are not 100% yet.

This is a difficult review to write as the staff are so nice, and so many people have written such enthusiastic reviews about the hotel. Maybe it just was not our cup of tea, but I will try to be objective.
The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are large and have some luxury. The beds are very very good and comfy.
The place did not appeal at all to us though. It felt very large and lacking in atmosphere and certainly lacking in elegance. Breakfast was disappointing for several reasons. Although as is typical with many resort hotels, there is a lot of choice, we did not manage to find anything that was particularly good. Most of the seating is indoors, which is a shame for a resort in that location, and it feels like a busy suburban lunchroom, with children running around, sometimes a bit loud, uncomfortable school-like chairs, and a generally unglamorous feeling. It even was a bit nerve-fraying.
And this was a problem in general at the hotel. It seemed like an airport hotel, with 5-star prices. There is a large atrium, and you walk down vast carpeted hallways to your room, and once inside all is carpeted and spacious and comfortable. But you could be anywhere, it could be a 4 star hotel near a highway or airport as it has that atmosphere. You feel sealed in when in the room. You open the balcony door, and you do have a large balcony, but somehow it feels a letdown. There are also reflective glass panels which mean you have less privacy, and can see too much of others as well (and their baby laundry!).
When we were there there were guests walking in the hallways in their swimsuits, and the swimming pool is actually shared with another very large, much older hotel nearby.
It seemed to us that the hotel, though it has comfortable rooms and pleasant staff, and interesting design, lacks charm and atmosphere. Even more striking is that in a place like Rovinj, especially adjacent to the park and the sea, it is a shame to have a hotel lacking any connection or rapport with that beautiful environment. It feels very out of place and cold, institutional and too large. Obviously many others seem to like it as there are so many good reviews here. We travel frequently and stay in deluxe as well as modest places, and this really did not work at all for us. We felt absolutely separated from our beautiful environment and atmosphere, somehow even while sitting on the balcony.

Dear Suzannetravel,
Thank you for your feedback and I am really sorry that you did not enjoy the ambiance 100%.
You are absolutely right, the design and concept is very unique and not everybody likes it.
I am managing two Hotels next to each other and I am sure you would have more enjoyed staying at Hotel Monte Mulini just 20 meters away. Monte Mulini is a Leading Hotel of the World and the complete opposite from Hotel Lone (exclusive, tranquile and cozy). A lot of guest whom I show both Hotels either like one or the other and the opinions are really split 50/50. Many prefer Lone as it is more contemporary, vibrant and gives you a feeling of space, freedom and creativity, Monte Mulini is modern as well, but more subtle and distinguished.

Let me know if you would like to visit Rovinj again and I will try to arrange something at Monte Mulini.
