This is a very nice place to stay. I would highly recommend it especially if you can get the second floor room with a balcony looking over the port. Claudia was very nice and very helpful. The other rooms were nice it is just that this one is special. The only complaint is that the area can be noisy but if you turn on the air and close the windows and shutters you can block it all out.

Me and my friend spend last weekend in August in Porta Antica. We had an apartment no 2. It had a big bed, small kitchenette, dining table and chairs for 4, a sofa (that I assume opens into a bed), and closets. I am guessing that 4 people could actually stay here, although it would be quite crowded. But for 2 it was very spacious.

We did not use the kitchenette at all so I cannot comment on that.

My experience in Croatia is that decoration is often given very low priority, and you often end up with "soulless" old mass produced furniture, regardless of how much you pay for your room. Not here. It was a very tasteful room, with really nice decoration. Even bathroom decoration was matching with the rest of the room.
Our room did not have a view. In fact we were looking straight into the windows of the house across narrow alley. Apartment across the hall from ours (no. 1 I am guessing) had AMAZING view. so if that is important for you, go for one of those more expensive apartments.
Also, due to the great water-front-middle-of-the-old-town location, it was quite noisy at night. With closed windows we could sleep, but noise levels were quite high. But that's the price you pay for fantastic location!

When arriving to Rovinj, you will need to go to the main entrance into the no-car zone. There pull up to the side, somewhere where you can wait for a few minutes, and go to the ticket kiosk on the right of the ramp. There once you explain that you are going to Porta Antica they will give you a pass that is good for one hour. Drive in to the main square, and the hotel is right there on the right. After you leave your suitcases, you need to take your car out. We eventually decided to leave our car in one of the free parking lots (otherwise it was 20Euros per day in the ones nearby!!). It was about 10 minute walk from the main area. Considering how expensive parking nearby was, this was not too bad. We had left things in the car (backpacks, wine) and nothing happened, so I guess free parking areas are safe.

I would not suggest that you sign up for their breakfast. There are plenty cafes around, and they all offer cheaper breakfast.

Overall very tasteful, great location. I would suggest it for a romantic weekend or short trip with friends.

Room Tip: Great location but noisy.

We took the significant luxury, and a bit of a risk, to book a room in Rovinj just one week before entering it, the peak holiday week in neighbouring Italy, and even the lowest price still available.

What we got was a small room, surely, and still: recenty refurbished room, relatively quiet and within a minute's walk from the sea shore - and with good wi-fi service.

Reception staff was friendly and kept terms as offered through the online booking service.
Location is on the main street in the old town - a walk-only area with no car traffic but crowded enough that you need to watch your steps at peak times. Our room looked on the back so was quiet.

The only drawback was that the room looked over a restaurant and a significant cooking smell entered it around meal times. Weather and a bit of the - effective - air conditioning allowed us to keep the window closed with comfort.

Room Tip: "La Carera" location has little or no sea view and is on the main business street, if a walk-only area.

Stayed only one night, for an overnight trip from Trieste. The apartment was lovely with a rustic feel, and had two comfortable beds (one up a spiral staircase from the other). One drawback of the particular apartment we stayed in, above the office, was that the windows looked directly across to the next building's - so aside from a curtain that could be pulled from beside the main bed, there was no privacy (the window curtains were sheer). Still, the space was terrific, with a small kitchen area. The staff stayed quite late to check us in (9pm) and was very helpful the next day after we had checked out. Though I'd recommend a seaside view for a longer stay, this was a great apartment at a good price.
I wish I could recommend the ground-floor restaurant as highly, because the staff, again, was very friendly and the service was good. Unfortunately, the seafood we had for our Saturday afternoon lunch was just okay. We found this to be the same with the late dinner we had at another spot along the shoreline. The heat of the day led us to the more comfortable seaside breezes, but I'd recommend going in away from the shore and choose a place other than those that have picture menus.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing sea

Totally agree with Rebmax below on all accounts. location great, but has drawbacks as listed. Plus, we had to contend with a nauseating smell that wafted through the apartment from time to time. We think it may have been a drain issue and noticed numerous odour "negators" located about the building.
Not a good nights sleep as per the odours - when mentioned on leaving, was told that it can be caused by the water (sea) this time of year?
