Pical Apartments
Ranked #30 of 33 Hotels in Porec

I will be honest and say that I expected the worse staying at these apartments, purely based on the cost paid (16 Euros a night - Low Season). Due to a last minute decision to get flights out to Porec, most other accommodation was booked up and the Pical apartments were the only ones available. However, the apartments are unbelievable value for money. Although the décor was not to our taste and the outside of the apartments are not particularly attractive (a little dated and in need of paint), we were pleasantly surprised at the location and standard and cleanliness of the apartments. We were allocated apartment 3 on the top floor of Block 'O'. The balcony was very spacious and the sun stayed on the balcony all afternoon. Inside the apartments, there were 2 single beds and a sofa bed (bed mattresses are not of the highest quality and are a little hard but for the money paid per night, we found them acceptable). Sheets and towels were provided with towels being changed every 3 days and bedding every 7. 2 toilet rolls and complimentary shower gel and soaps were provided in the bathroom. There was a 2 ring hob which heated up very quickly if you wanted to cook in the apartment (no oven). Staying at the Pical apartments allowed you access to the modern and tastefully facilities of Hotel Zagreb. This included access to the pool and sun terraces, bar areas, entertainment etc., Breakfast for 40 kunas and Dinner for 100 kunas was available if you wanted to eat there (incidentally, it is Hotel Zagreb where you first check in and collect your apartment keys). Porec is approx a 15-20 mins walk from the apartments but there is a Noddy train that you can catch if you prefer not to walk. It costs 10 kunas. There is a small supermarket next to Hotel Zagreb and larger ones in the town centre. A market selling fruit, veg and wine is found on the walk into the centre of Porec.

Room Tip: Request a top floor where you will get the sun most of the day. You may consider taking tea towels a...

Pical Apartments consists of 22 pieces of three-story buildings surrounding the parking lot and a small playground. Each house has 5 apartments where #1 is located in the ground floor facing the parking lot, #2 on the first floor, #3 at the top, #4 on the ground floor facing the forest and #5 on the ground floor a staircase down to the woods.

Our apartment (S3) was simply furnished with a living room consisting of two bed couches, coffee table, two armchairs and a dining table and chairs for 4. The small kitchen had two hotplates, refrigerator and sink. The bathroom was ok with bath and double bedroom. There was no AC, but because the apartment was at the top floor, the wind and drafts made it cool enough to sleep in even in late July.

On the balcony / terrace, there were four plastic chairs with table. We sat out almost every night and was not troubled by mosquitoes, but saw many bats.

Check-in is done at Hotel Zagreb where they also have access to the pool (fresh water), children's pool, showers, toilets and free WiFi. At the hotel, you can eat all your meals if you want.

It is a comfortable walking distance to the Porec and it's fine to run pram or kick bike. If you do not go, you can take a bicycle taxi or take the tourist train.

Rock beach below the hotel is popular but do not forget the bathing shoes!

Room Tip: I guess the top floor (appartment 3) is the coolest one with best view

Hello,
I just have to confirm most of others contributors here. Very cheap stay in off-season. Appartements are a bit old, and "from socialists times" - if you understand the impression.
App was quite big with nice terrace. Clean - with bathroom. Clean sheets.
The appartement "village" is a short walk (15min slowly) to main city Poreč.
Staff in the adjoining Hotel Zagreb is helpful and you can find all the information there.
This was our third stay here - and I think we will come again. Price-offer it is ok.

To conclude - cheap - but do not expect too much.

I stayed in Apartments Pical in September and paid only about 20 euro per night for the whole apartment. Incredible low price for good apartment. Apartment itself consist of two big rooms (living room and bedroom), bathroom, small kitchen with cooking facilities and spacious balcony. Rooms a bit outdated and have no TV (main drawback of apartment to my mind). Kitchen is well equipped - dishes, refrigerator, electric cooker.

All hotel facilities are located in the nearby hotel Zagreb. Check-in and check-out also are in the reception of the hotel (no receptionist in apartment complex). There is a minimarket near entrance to hotel.

City centre is easy accessible by foot (15-20 min) or by touristic mini-train. Beach is located from apartments in some hundred meters of picturesque pine forest.

If you lucky to get best prices of this apartments, you can get fantastic price/quality ratio. But if you cannot live without TV - is not for you.

These apartments are excellent value for money if you go in May or September. From 17 euros a night! Rest of year a lot more expensive. They are basic but very clean and most have large balconies. 5 minutes from the pebbly beach through lovely pine forests and 15 min pleasant walk into Porec. The facilities of the Zagreb hotel are at your disposal and there is a lovely swimming pool. Mainly older people and very few English but very quite and peaceful when we have been. Porec has some nice walks and lovely clear waters but do not go if you like sandy beaches because there arn't any! Mainly bathing platforms off the rocks.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a sunny position as some are in shade.

We stayed in these apartments for a few days, we did now know the locations was so close to the beach and city centre. They have a small outdoor patio to eat on, a decent sized living room and private bedroom. Really small kitchen but it is functional. The place was clean, nice a bit outdated maybe from Yugoslavian time? For the money it cannot be beat, we came staying in an expensive Italian hotels days before and were comfortable here. Note: Speak languages other than English when negotiating for a boat tour for the best price.

Room Tip: This is a cluster of condos on a circle type drive behind private drive you access with a security c...

My family stayed at Apartments Pical in June 2011. We had never been to Croatia and were excited to stay near the beach. When we arrived, it took a bit for us to find where to check in, because we weren't told.

Our room was on the second floor in a building on the far side of the complex. The room was a big disappointment, but it was due to my lack of research, not because the information was incorrect. The bathroom could have been cleaner. A window had been left open and the tub and sink had dead gnats all over them.

The apartment was small. No AC, no TV and tiny kitchen. However, the location more than made up for the unimpressive room. We (even my two year old) could walk down to the beach. At the beach there was boat rental, a playground, and a beautiful view of the old town.

We ate at the hotel's buffet several evening meals and it was good, but a bit overpriced. We used the hotel pool and game room which the kids enjoyed.

Overall this is a decent place to stay. If you want fancy or the extras of AC and TV, this is not for you. For us, it was a reasonably priced place to sleep at night. We were gone much of the day and spent only a little time in the room.

One last note, if I was a woman traveling alone, I would not choose these apartments. The room was not very secure and the locks were ancient skeleton keys on one of the doors. I kept things locked in the trunk of my car, because it would not have taken much effort to break in and steal from the room.
