I am always cautious when I give a rating of Average or below. In itself, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the Laguna Mediteran, as evidenced by the many positive reviews on this site. This hotel will meet or exceed expectations of most guest. For me, after 3 weeks of travelling throughout Europe, it just happened to be one of those properties that "did the job, but where the wow factor just wasn't there". The Porec hotel scene is really dominated by two players: Laguna and Valamar - with Laguna properties looking somewhat more affordable, with older properties and wide overall appeal (as many families as 75 years old!) and Valamar which is a bit more hip, modern and may appeal to a younger crowd.

What I liked: Reasonable sized room, given that this is a place where most people will spend their time outside, not inside. Sea-view room and balcony (and an area to dry your clothes on the balcony). Varied breakfast buffet and dinner buffet food options (of decent quality given the high number of people going through the place). Nice walk via walkway to Porec (20 minutes). The sofabed had been converted to a regular bed prior to arrival for our child (and the sofabed used a foam mattress which was quite comfortable. Good size bathroom. From a value perspective, this is actually a very good offering. Friendly staff at the kids club. Decent entertainment and activities throughout the day. It was also fairly obvious that the hotel went through some renos recently (probably within the last 2 years) so no maintenance issues to report.

What to watch for/could be improved: First time for me that I am going to a "resort" where you have to provide your own towels for the hotel's pool (I could understand it for the beach). Being late August, the nights are fresh and the pool not being heated, water temperature is on the cool side. Also, at this time of the year, not much point in being in the pool area much past 5pm. The large pine trees to the west block the sunshine to the pool area - nice to have those trees to make it feel like you are in a forest or something but... I was also assigned a room right above the nightly entertainment area - smart if you are two adults looking for entertainment - not as good if you are travelling with a 3 years old... Price for wifi is outrageous, and in 3 weeks, this is the first place that actually was charging for wifi. Finally, although the room wa cleaned daily, some of the items had accumulated a fair amount of dust

Would I go back to Laguna Mediteran - Likely as it still does provide extremely good value if staying in the Porec area - but I would also consider a few other options.

We stayed at the hotel Mediteran in August for a week.

This is a review is full of positives with no negatives. The hotel/rooms and dinning area are spotlessly clean. All members if staff are friendly and helpful.

We went as a couple, but the hotel would appeal to family's and older couples.

We opted for half board, but ventured into Porec (which is around a 15min walk) most nights to eat out. Porec itself is full of character with arty/crafty shops and plenty of places to eat. All of which we reasonably priced.

If you don't want a pool holiday, Porec itself has lots to offer which include trips to other parts of Istria, Italy, various water sports, bike hire and parks for kids.

Would definitely return to Porec.

We booked this hotel through Jet2 and it is a 3 STAR(rating of this should be 4 star hotel). We went on August 20th 2014.When we booked this holiday we were a little unsure because of the rating on this hotel we are used to 4star plus. When we arrived at the hotel we were met with very friendly staff all speaking english.First impressions of Hotel very clean and well furnished. We were shown our rooms which overlooked the swimming pool and the sea and what a view, once again very clean, beds comfortable and the bathroom had a walk in shower and toilet and large sink. Towels were changed every day and rooms cleaned. Now too speak about the food it was EXCELLENT only french fries were served once in the week we were there and that is a change because the hotels which we have stayed before have french fries every night . There was 3 meat dishes and 3 fish dishes every evening and salads and soup and continental meats and various desserts and of course different bread too choose from the wine and beer and fruit juices were free and you could go too get the required drinks with the evening meal as many times as you want. Breakfast was the usual bacon fried eggs scrambled eggs boiled eggs toast and jam also cereal and yoghurts and honey, and cooked meats. you could also have champagne and wine and beer if you wished with your breakfast. Our arrangements was half board plus with this hotel. Going back too the hotel it was a 15 to 20 mins lovely stroll too porec and what views we had taking this walk. The only one BAD thing with this hotel it is not suitable for disabled the surrounding area is FLAT but the hotel you have too climb 9 steps to get to a lift for your bedroom, and we did not see a lift for the restaurant and there were steps once again, perhaps this is why it is a 3 star which is a great pity, but if you are able too deal with the steps it is a perfect excellent hotel and within easy reach of porec, for those you do not wish too walk there is a train which runs along the side of the sea or by taxi which was 60 Kuna . but we walked most of the time.

Reading through the reviews I think that most positive things have probably been said re the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the hotel, welcoming staff , efficiency of Jet 2 etc etc.
We had 2 rooms in B block, ours had ample storage space but the other, for 3 people, had very little and really could have done with more. Both bathrooms had excellent power showers.
The main problem arose from the position of the rooms overlooking the swimming pool and the sea as the evening entertainment took place just underneath us. The volume of the noise particularly on two evenings was totally unacceptable. I mentioned this to the manager, pointing out that it was way above agreed safety levels. The noise in the animation shows for the children severely breached safety levels. I do feel that this issue does need to be taken rather more seriously by the hotel management.
I was interested to read the previous comment re towels on sun beds. Each morning I watched the cleaning staff fighting off over zealous guests as they strove to reserve their beds for the day! I think 7 50 was the earliest time of booking!
Wifi was expensive at around £2.60 per hour and given the overall quality of the hotel I would have thought it could have been free.
We have done a lot of travelling during the last 15 years and I can honestly say that this was one of the best hotels we have encountered despite my comments re noise etc.

Room Tip: If you wish to go to bed before 23 30 hours I would suggest that you ask for a room at the furthest point from the evening's entertainment.

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at this hotel. We travelled with our 7 year old daughter. We cannot recommend this hotel and area enough.
All staff at the hotel were so friendly and quick to assist from the reception staff to the cleaning staff. They are polite, eager to help and very welcoming. The hotel management should be very proud of the team that they employ. All staff spoke a multitude of languages.
The food was fine and plenty to choose from fish to pasta, veg and meat. There is not a great desert selection which my waitsline was perfectly happy with! Still fresh fruit, ice cream and yougurt with local cakes...Venture into Porec for delicious icecream as good as any Italian gelato I have ever had!
The kids club staff were all very good with kids kind and friendly the few times we used it during the day, all speaking excellent English. We tended to go to the beach and sea during the day rather than stay round the pool. Having said that the times we did used the pool we did not have any problems in finding a sun lounger and didn't encounter any issue with customers reserving their lounger for the day.
The hotel has one main entrance to reception and then on the lower level 2 entrances to the pools from both bar and restaurant. The hotel was very secure and felt more than comfortable to let our little one wander around with her friends.
There is a Thai massage spa in the hotel which was execellent and very reasonably priced.
Local shop in the Bellevue up a short flight of steep steps around 5 min walk from hotel which has a good selection for lunch time snacks, water etc...
The surrounding area is beautiful and the staff at all restaurants and bars were very friendly. We went to Alans Grill...huge portions, cold beer and ice cream and very reasonably priced.
Porec is a delight with a lovely harbour.
Make use of the local bus station for your local travel to Rovinj for example. The staff at the booth spoke excellent English and were very helpful.
In a nutshell great hotel, holiday, area. Not too touristy and is totally unlike costa del england by the sea in spain.
We look forward to returning to this beautiful place and people.
