“The Superb Laguna Istra”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2007

My wife and I,being 'older parents',with two teenage children, left for our holiday in Croatia with the usual great expectations, expecting the usual great disappointment! We were pleasantly surprised by the good, quick flight, with plenty of legroom, and great on board food.

This was just the start of the best holiday ever spent by us! Pula airport was quick, uncrowded, and we were on board the airconditioned coach within half an hour!

More was to come, however; our arrival at the lovely Hotel Laguna Istra, with its friendly staff, high quality, clean rooms, and excellent food.

This is a wonderful hotel, and location for the perfect family holiday,so long as you do not have children whose sole aim in life is to spend their holiday on fairground attractions or swigging lager, which, fortunately we do'nt!

There is something here for every sane, peace loving person who wants to escape the madness and stress which is the UK today; walking through little towns with streets that are only wide enough for two people side by side, vivid flowers overhanging sunlit balconies, little shops selling locally made souvenirs that are not from China, and always the blue sea on all sides. Going to Porec on the little train and coming back in the moonlight by water taxi!!! The romance of the location, the warmth of the people, the absence of yobbery, all complimented by this wonderful hotel, which we cannot fault in any way.

It is the ultimate escape from our panic driven, humdrum lives, and we recommend it to all decent people, with the Laguna Istra and its wonderful staff and facilities always in the background to welcome you 'home'.

Our flight home was spent planning when we can go to the same location again!

Havala,Hotel Laguna Istra!

We'll be back in 2008!

Having just returned from this wonderful place with my husband and two children, I feel i must write a review! On our arrival at the hotel I was worried a little as we had been told of the steps, however we were met by a two way escelator so please do not be put off, this was well received! Check in staff efficient and very helpful, we were in our room in no time at all. Having booked with Thomsons, we were told that a family room was not available, and due to the added cost of two rooms, we decided not to pay the extra for a balcony or a sea view. We were therefore thrilled when we received inter- connecting rooms, a double balcony and stunning views. This resort has everything a good relaxing holiday should be. Plenty of food options, shops a plenty, great shopping, and all at very reasonable prices. The food quality in the hotel was superb and plentiful, great to have free drinks at dinner too! take the mini train or ferry over to Porec itself, a beautiful, unspolit little town, great choice of little bars , and very reasonable prices again. Weather was delightful, and if you have the time a trip by ferry to Venice is a must. Top tip here do not book with your holiday company , go to the iformation centre and book locally with ATLAS , it is half the price! All in all , an excellent holiday, a lovely place, beautiful coastline, super watersports mini golf tennis etc. Very clean, no larger louts, and plenty of charm, Croatian people very friendly, and it made a refreshing change not to be ripped off! My only complaint is that we didnt book for two weeks! I am longing to go back already! However there will be no Bristol flights from next year which is a big shame.

Rooms are adequate but not very big. Very clean and staff are friendly. Food is buffet style so something to suit everybody's taste everyday. Hotel is air conditioned and pool is nice size and clean. Didn't have balcony or sea view (as we didn't request it) but could be nice. If you want a fridge in your room you will have to pay something like €3 a day to rent one but we found we didn't need it so much with the air conditioning. The resort is perfect with all you need from tennis, water skiing, paddle boating, cycling, walking, diving, paraglyding etc. Porec is only 5km or so by choo choo train or rented bikes or bus so is easily accessible but there is so much in the resort you won't need to venture in as often as you might think.
Overall we had a brilliant relaxing holiday, with nice hotel, lovely resort, perfect weather and lovely people (no lager louts:o) and lovely staff in hotels etc. Would definitely recommend but not for single people :o)

  • Disliked — A lot of steps in most of the hotels as far as I could see so not great for people with physical disabilities

my wife & i have been to the laguna istra twice ,1st in 2003 with our kids & then in 2004 with just ourselves to fight with.we flew to trieste & the bus transfer took about 90 mins.
the first thing you notice about croatia is just how clean it is & the
hotel really was spotless.our room was more than comfortable &
the towels etc were changed everyday.all the staff were excellent
& couldn't be more helpful especially on our 1st visit when the kids were with us.the pool & poolside area was very well maintained & was never overly busy so you didn't have to throw towels over sunbeds the night before(not that we irish would ever do such a thing).if you like seafood the lunch buffet really was something else & if not then there was also plenty of salad & 3 or 4 meat dishes as well.
about 100 mts from the hotel there are a few bars that stay open until between midnight & 1 oclock 500ml of lager costing about 1.70 euro.also 100mts from the hotel is the beach with volleyball, waterskiing etc & about 20 stalls selling clothes & souveniers.there are also alot of tennis courts right next to the hotel
we took an excursion to venice by boat taking 2 hrs 30 mins
costing 65 euros each & went to pula & rovinj(not to be missed)
by local bus which are very cheap but be careful -if the timetable
says 10.02 the bus will leave at 10.02 & not a minute after.there were plenty of other excursions like zagreb, lubiana, trieste, slovenia etc that could be booked with your rep.we also went to the postojna caves in slovenia -unbelieveable.
if you don't fancy any excursions then porec town is well worth passing time in.it's an ancient roman town with loads of character with a basilica that's well worth a visit.if you fancy a snack try a pizza at one of the cafes they're quite some size & tasty to boot.if you do go to porec the easiest way is by noddytrain or waterbus that leaves every 30 mins from the pier about 300 mts from the hotel & costs 2 euros each.
if you fancy a place where there is no clubbers just getting ready for action when you're just about to visit the land of nod then porec/laguna istra is just the spot.we liked it & will definitely be back

Fab hotel, very good food, great location. The only downside is the number of steps in all the hotels and the resort area itself. Having said that it will not stop me returning to this fab hotel and mini resort. It has to be the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed at.
