“Building Next Door”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

The rooms here are spacious and nicely furnished. No tea making but free Wifi is available (also in the lobby). We had room 308 which has a sea view but unfortunately it is now partially overlooked by a large building being erected on the site next door. As we were touring during our three night stay, the building work did not disturb us but it would be a problem for anyone wanting to relax and sit round the pool all day.
Otherwise this is an excellent hotel with friendly staff and a good buffet style restaurant. It has a convenient location fronting a pedestrian walkway by the sea which has a choice of restaurants and bars and leads to a pretty harbour.

Room Tip: Choose a low number sea view room and avoid the side rooms which overlook the building site

We booked a week B&B at the Hotel Park, through Balkan Holidays, after reading the reviews on TA, but were very disappointed with what we found. The two female hotel receptionists were very unhelpful, to say the least. We tried to change our room, from one at the back of the hotel which they said overlooked the 'park' (see photo) for one with a sea view and offered to pay for the upgrade, only to be told that the hotel was full and this would not be possible. The hotel was definitely not full and they could have changed our room had they wanted, but we had the distinct impression that those two particular people did not like the British, and acted accordingly.
The room we had was well decorated and spacious with comfortable beds but our view was of apartment blocks, which did somewhat spoil our week away. The storage space in our room was one small drawer and a wardrobe, so obviously not ideal for the holiday guest. The TV was supposed to have 3 channels in English but not one of the English channels worked. We were told there was a problem with the satellite and they were trying to fix it - but this didn't happen while we were there.
Breakfast was OK if you were happy with everything being cold, except the tea and coffee, and was the same every day.
The pool area had very few sun loungers and no umbrellas for shade so I cannot imagine how they would cope if the hotel was even half full. Hotel guests have to pay for sun loungers on the beach, and also to use the indoor pool. IMO this hotel is only suitable for a transit/stopover visit, for coach tours, not as a holiday hotel. We were warned by our holiday company that there was building work taking place alongside the hotel, which is due to finish on 1st June - it is much more likely to be mid-July as the building is far from complete.
We found some very good eating places, in particular, and just along from the hotel on the promenade, 'Dinner's Delight' and 'Ankura' both reasonably priced with good food and friendly helpful waiters. Near the port the Marco Polo is also recommended.
Would we return to Croatia, YES - generally the people are really nice as is the country, but Hotel Park - NO, NO, NO.

Room Tip: Even no's seem to face the sea.

Dear Ms. Goldstone,

first of all we would like to thank You for choosing our hotel as Your holiday destination and to thank You for Your review written on Trip Advisor site.

We really regret for not offering another room with direct sea view, but, as explained to You directly, the only real reason for that was because the rooms overlooking the sea were all booked out for other guest in that period, and not because we did not want to change Your room or because we don't like British guests.
We always try to be professional and helpful to every guest staying in our hotel and we certanly don't distinguish the guests by nationality or any other distinct. Just to say that we have had more than 400 British guests so far only in this year.
We once again want to apologize for problems accured with Tv channels in English and for not beiing able to fix it while You were here.
Regarding the free of charge sun loungers and umbrellas in the pool area we can say that we haven't had any problem so far with hotel beiing full and all the guest having their secured place.
We take the daily fee for sun loungers on the beach, which is nothing unusual, but we definitely don't charge the indoor swimming pool entrance, which is free of charge.
The building work near the hotel was stopped by June 8th.

stayed at this hotel in May 2013 for 11 nights. It is a nice hotel in a lovely position on the promenade in Makarska. Rooms are a good size with a good bathroom with shower and bath. Breakfast was OK but didn't change all the time we were there but there was plenty of choice of hot and cold things to eat and tea, coffee and juice. We had booked a sea view and were on the 5th floor looking out to the islands of Brac and Hvar. It would have been perfect but for the building work next door which is very close to the Hotel Park and started at 07.00 and went on till 7-8 pm some nights. Appart from the noise of drills and jackhammers the other problem was the amount of dust especially when they were using angle grinders to cut stone on the top floor. This meant it was not always possible to sit in the pool area and relax. I would go back to this hotel but not until the new build is complete.

Room Tip: have a room with a sea view and away from the building work. Plenty of restaurants in the area if yo...

Our room 214 had a balcony that overlooked a building being built, they worked from 7am to 7pm,but that did not really affect us.The men seemed to find it fascinating watching them work,no health and Safety here!!Good size room, sofa and 2 chairs.Shower over bath.Clean hotel, lovely staff. Prom below the hotel, nice walk along there to various restaurants/bars. Walk opposite way into town.Good buffet for meals, very efficient and pleasant restaurant staff

We were travelling by car and used the Park as our base of operations. First of all, it is easy to find ( using google maps we entered the southern part of town. After that follow the large blue hotel signs) and it has free parking. We had a seaside room and only paid $ 95 CAD / 65 euro a night( we had booked ahead though) the entire hotel was very clean and as we commented to management, it was extremely well run. The breakfast buffet was better than almost any I have seen. Not only huge selection, but you can easily eat yourself silly. Wifi is only available in the lobby as is the case with most older hotels. My only criticism is that is is not free and the mechanism for logging in and out is a little clunky. Make sure you get the front desk staff to log you out, they will cheerfully do so. I highly recommend this place

My wife and I spent 17 days along the Dalmatian coast of Croatia to celebrate...shall we say...a significant birthday of mine. By far our favourite hotel was the Park, where we spent 7 nights. Our seaview room (with balcony) was excellent. The premises open up onto the promenade along the Adriatic with cafes and restaurants in every direction. And we were only a few steps from the sea for swimming, sun and even a bit of parasailing! We also availed ourselves of the spa and treatment centre, which was very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Great value!

Room Tip: Why stay on the Adriatic and miss the sea view? Just get one a few floors above the pool area.

I have stayed in the hotel for two nights. My room was on 5th floor and had two levels - one as sitting room and above was sleeping room. Room had balcony with seaside view. Cleanliness was on high level in whole hotel. Breakfast was very good with big choice of everything. Hotel staff was more than willing to help. I have forgot my phone charger - got one from them.
Only the prices are bit too high but this hotel deserves this prices
