We were in Croatia for about 5 weeks and the Hotel Korana was one of our favorite hotels. We had driven through the Zumberack forest and arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon. Coming around the corner gave us quite a pause as we had forgotten about the hotel ruins being the first thing we would see. It was a stark reminder of what a horrid thing war is. However, once we rounded the bend, we found the beautiful Hotel Korana waiting for us. A beautiful property on the edge of a river with fabulous walking paths and a serene atmosphere. We had a very large room which overlooked the parkland. The staff was extremely helpful at every turn. We were there in October and though off season, we received every bit of service and charm through we were the only ones in the restaurant that night for dinner. We had a delicious price fixe dinner and a wonderful bottle of wine recommended by the wait staff. It was too cold to eat outside, but after dinner we walked along the path and enjoyed the VanGogh like scene. We loved everything about this hotel and the only regret is that we had not planned to stay another night. If you stay here, you must make time to stop at the war memorial just down the road which has old tanks, destroyed airplanes and bombed buildings to remind everyone just how awful war can be as well as a good description of what happened in Karlovac. Impactful!
