“Close to Town for £50 a night”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

I stayed here in August for a fantastic week in Hvar. No fridge fan or air con and boy is it hot. True you spend very little time there but its difficult to sleep and there is no relief from the heat

As in other reviews I would rent an apartment next time - you ll get air con and a fridge close to town for £ 25 a night.

Hvar is a great place you ll never forget. I thoroughly recommend you go.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the reception block they at least have fans

Where do we begin with this review? I would love to be positive about this hotel, but.........

The Good:
The location was very good and the views from our balcony was amazing.

The Bad:
No lift (we stayed on 3rd floor), no lights on the balcony, the balcony door didn't close properly, the room was cooled via a desk fan

The Ugly:
Loose (dangerous) wires, the bathroom was filthy, neither the sink nor the bath had plugs, the sink leaked water onto the floor, the shower had to be held by hand as there was no wall attachment for the shower head, the bed was uncomfortable, the room was very cramped, the flowers on the balcony were rotting.

Apart from that, we felt it was over priced.

Our 5 day visit at the Hotel Dalmacija was cut short after our first night when we chose to move to the hotel Adriana which was double the price. I guess you get what you pay for!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

The hotel has a great location. But it`s not worth the price you pay. The rooms are very old (very old carpets). The staff could`t help us because they were not from Hvar. They have people over from another place to work during summer to get some money, but the hotel didn`t trainned the staff. We asked about beaches to go and they said they didn`t know a nice place. Breakfast was poor. They have free wi-fi in the lobby.
There are no air conditioning and the people stay in front of the hotel until early morning (6-7am), drinking and talking out loud (screaming), so it`s impossible to sleep.
They don`t have daily room service.

We arrived with little expectation considering the price compared to the rest of the island but boy we were in for a shock. After a trek through the pedistranised area of the Riva in Hvar in blistering sun we arrived. The Hotel itself had a lovely reception area but alas we were directed to the annex away from the hotel a five min walk dragging bags and all,in the hot sun past all the sunbathers relaxing on the Riva.We arrived at the room hot and bothered. Our room was very very basic in urgent need of updating, which we expected with no air con and no sea breeze, basically like a furnace. We decided we were going to put up with the heat and hopefully it would cool in the evening.Things got off on a bad foot when i went to use loo and there was no toilet paper provided. When I rang reception and informed of this she told me that I would have to come to hotel and collect it.After expressing to the receptionist that I had only just booked in and surely paper should have been provided she informed me she had no staff to deliver to the annex. After a short conversation she told me she would try and find somebody to deliver the basic need of toilet paper.
We left the annex in the hope of cooling down and find some where with aircon even for a few mins.We stayed away until bed time and this is when the whole calmity of the hotel kicked in.
We had a bottle of wine and a few cocktails so by no means were we sober. The noise was unbearable with having to leave the door open because of lack of air con and the furnance that the annex was. With revellers walking by on their journey home after a few pints too many screaming until I just gave up on any hope of sleep and just sat on balcony. At around 5am i decided to go and try and sleep. After this time the noise turned comical between the church bells ringing and then just to finish things of a cock crowed and crowed and crowed and crowed to greet the morning sun. It was time to give up and just let the noise beat us. We were meant to stay longer than the one night and the hotel offered us a room in the actual hotel still facing the water and the noise, but we got the hell out of there.Stay away if you want any sleep whatsoever!
A big plus is Booking.com helped us get a refund for the remainder we had it booked for and helped reaccomadate is.Dont be tempted by price stay away from this no sleep zone

Hvar seems to be a very expensive place to stay. We chose this hotel for the better value and the balcony with sea views. It turned out that our top floor roof balcony was great with good views across to the islands, and the location was great on the waterfront just around the corner from the main centre of Hvar Town. The top floor terrace areas are better because they are larger and not enclosed, so are worth going for.

The room itself was very tired though with uncomfortable mattresses (two single beds moved together for a double room) and cheap blankets. As other have said there is no air conditioning, so the options are to have the balcony doors open and get no sleep because there are noisy clubs close by and many party revellers passing by singing and shouting all night (to 6am every night, no joke), or to close the doors and windows and sweat it out with only a small desk fan! We'd read the reviews that there was no A-C but weren't that worried. We underestimated the amount of noise that could occur all night however.

Breakfast was good, with a strong choice, reasonable quality and nice location on the outdoor terrace. There is free wi-fi, but only in the lobby area.

Overall, I would not stay again due to the noise at night, uncomfortable beds and lack of air conditioning, but it does represent a budget choice in a good location in this expensive part of Croatia.

I'll preface my review by saying this hotel cost EUR 70 / night. It had all of the things that one would need in a hotel - a bathroom with running water and a toilet and a bed. Bonus points for also having a terrace. However, it was hot and humid in Hvar (around 30C) and there was no a/c. This made for some uncomfortable sleepless nights. Also, Hvar is a party town with people partying all through the night. Given that this was a cheaper, two star hotel (the annex of the much nicer Hotel Dalmacija), there was lots of partying going on in the rooms around us. The walls were concrete but the windows were single paned and very porous. Thus it was incredibly loud at night. Because of the heat, the walls permeated the smell of the thick black paint that lined the walls. The walls were practically sweating paint. (We're not sure if the room was newly painted but it sure smelled that way.) Also, all the front doors had large vents above them to let in fresh air. But you couldn't shut the vents (wooden slates) so the noise would get into the room that way as well. Our room was on the upper floor (4th floor) and there's no lift. Plus the hotel's on a hill so you have to walk up the stone pathway as well. Hard to do with a suitcase.

On the plus side - it was a cheap room with the basics. Plus it had a terrace with a nice view. Also, the Hotel Dalmacija offers a decent breakfast in the morning which the annex guests are allowed to partake in.

We just returned from Croatia. We spent 5 days in Hvar and originally had booked the Dalmacija for our stay.

We stayed the first night and quickly found other accommodations (we rented an apartment) the next day.

The hotel is just mediocre. I would say it's a solid 2 star. It's clean enough, the location is very good and it's relatively cheap. Hvar is expensive so paying 150 euro for a hotel in town on paper is a good value.

The problem I had with the Dalmacija was the attitude. They have bookings all month and really don't care if you are in need of anything during your stay. They know they have a great location and a reasonable price so service is not a priority. They had a line of people, along with us, canceling their reservations and looking for something else. They seem to not want to make any effort in keeping their guests happy. In fact I would say they make you feel as if you are lucky to be staying with them...not the other way around.

Yes it's true there is no air conditioning. There are two buildings, the main hotel and the beach annex. The annex is great if you're 18 years old and drinking all night long. It's not remodeled as the website suggests. The main hotel is a very slight step above and has fans in the rooms. If you're going in July/August you'll need the fan.

Other hotels in town run from 300 to 600 euro so the price of the Dalmacija is cheap...relatively speaking. But personally I couldn't even stomach paying the 150 euro. There was no value for me. We rented a beautiful apartment just out of town for 120 euro a night.

If you're coming to Croatia with a bunch of friends and are between the ages of 18 and 24 then maybe the Dalmacija will be just fine. You won't mind the loud music all night long, the bad service and the mediocre accommodations.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to stay, this is not for you.
