Very good overall. great location, great to just sit outside in very easy chairs and chill. room was a bit small and very modern ie. not very practical. lots of good restaurants nearby. interesting little town - lots of narrow streets with shops & restaurants. when we go again, & the best way to get there(we were on a touring trip, so drove) is fly to Split- taxi to ferry terminal- ferry to Hvar and it drops you right outside the hotel. no hassle! We would stay here again.

Riva hotel is the best located of the 3 that belong to the group of hotels on Hvar. Having said that, its hard to find a bad location as Hvar is such a small city.

Service was impeccable, and spending time sitting on the patio in front of the board before the night starts was a great comfort.

Riva does not have ANY double beds, so recommended for couples.

This hotel is right on Hvar harbor which makes it ideal. Our room was large and modern with very comfortable bed. The reception staff were outstanding. The bathroom was interesting, a glass door with minimal frosting for the toilet which you could see directly into from the bed. So if you like your privacy, I would not reccomend this arrangement! The best thing about this hotel is that Suncani (of which Riva Hotel is part of) own 2 more hotels and a number of restaurants and bars on the island. So if you go to any of these you can take your room key and have food and drinks charged back to your room. Amfora resort has a really large pool with sunlounges which Riva guests can use. This was a huge bonus for us. Overall I would reccomend the hotel, but maybe check on the toilet arrangement if you like privacy!

Stayed in a junior suite for first week of our honeymoon. The bedroom area was a bit small but when you take into account the lounge definitely plenty of room, excellent use of space. Separate toilet which was much appreciated! Bath and separate shower. Staff fantastic, location couldn't be better. Highly recommended.

You can see from most of the other reviews this place is legit. We would stay here again for sure no questions asked. There were a few issues and I will discuss them but over overall this is the place to stay in Hvar. Below you will find my take on some insightful information and what to expect from Riva YHH. I don't work for the hotel and this is my opinion based on travel to the Riva YHH during the second week of June for a week long stay.

WHEN TO GO
Visit Hotel in the shoulder season if you can. The rooms are much cheaper and it's not as crowded in most areas of town. We chose early June and the weather was great the water was warm enough to swim in and the lavender fields were in full bloom.

WHEN TO BOOK
We booked in March for our trip in June. They had a stay 3 nights get one free plus 30% discount as well as breakfast included! Our non sea view rooms averaged about $150 a night total including breakfast for 6 days / 5 nights. The best way to book is through the http://www.suncanihvar.com/

ARRIVAL
If you arrive by boat or catamaran that stop daily at the dock in Hvar town you will be dropped off 20 meters from the hotel. They usually still have a representative standing on the landing with the rest of the taxi drivers and hotel reps and lead you to the lobby which takes about 3 minutes to reach after stepping off the boat.

If you arrive by car it's a little bit different. You will see signs as you enter Hvar town for hotels and you will see one for the Riva. It basically takes you down to the main bus terminal which is nothing more than 3 large parking spaces on the edge of public driving area within the city. We stopped and asked a local cab driver where the RYHH was and told us we would have to walk down to the water take a left and head about 200 meters to the hotel. This total walk is about 5-10 mins and is about 800 meters or so. We had some people wait with the van because you are not allowed to park there long term. The hotel will send up a golf cart driver to pick up your bags. We had bags for 6 people for 2 weeks worth of travel so this made it handy. They will also give a parking pass for you to park at sister property free of charge. The one they chose for us was located by the only gas station in hvar town. it's about a 15 minute walk from there back to the hotel.

ROOMS
We all had rooms on the 3rd floor which is the very top. We were three couple with three different rooms. All rooms were very clean upon our arrival and the beds where a bit harder than normal but nothing terrible. Just depends on what type of bed you like. Only one of the small coolers worked out of the 3 rooms the other two barely kept the items cooler than room temp. The maid service was prompt but I found dirt on the floor for two days in the same place in my room even after I knew the maids had been in to clean. I think their big priority was the bathrooms, the beds and making sure everything was neat. The floors were just an after thought. Overall the rooms were modern and decorated nicely though. I could access internet with my phone via the wifi connection and the television showed 5 or so channels in english if you like to watch TV.

ROOM 308 is a standard ocean view room in the very middle of the hotel directly over the entrance to the hotel. The views are amazing but use caution the room is very small! I have a feeling most standard ocean view rooms are smaller than the others but can't confirm this. This room faces the West so the evenings are great here and the mornings are quiet with the sun at your back. CAUTION if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs! This room and all rooms facing the harbor are very loud. People partying and staying up all night on the street can keep you awake.
ROOM 315 is a standard courtyard view and faces the East. There is a large building located right behind it so even though it faces east with the black out curtains it remains very dark in the morning and is very very quiet! If you are a light sleeper something facing the backside is your best bet. The room was very large seemed almost twice the size of 308.
ROOM 312 is located on the far North side of the hotel at the end of the hall. It is not classified as a sea view room but you can see parts of the sea from the window as you enter the room. This room is also somewhat more quite than the ones on the from of the hotel.

AMENITIES
Even though the hotel does not have a pool you have access to the AMFORA Grand beach resort hotel. This hotel is about a 20 minute walk around the harbor and you are able to charge things to your room back at the RYHH so you only need to take your room key. This made it very simple for us and we did not need to bring money or have to worry about brining towels either. They reciprocate the use of the pool to the RYHH guests. To me this is one of the major bonus's about staying at the RYHH. You get the great location and you get the access to the other hotels amenities. The Amfora has a great view if you go inside and take the elevator up to the gym level and go outside you can overlook the pool and private beach area and take some great pictures of the Pakelini islands. The private beach is a key feature as well and the access from the Amfora pool area is ideal.

STAFF
The staff and service was great! Their english was good and seems like they went out of the way to make us happy! We never had an issue...as a matter of fact when we had a small issue getting ice from the bar for our room the manager personally apologized and made sure we were taken care of!

TIPS
Book early and stay cheap. Enjoy cocktails outside during the happy hour and people watch until you can't anymore! Stay at the RYHH and enjoy the other hotels without being so far away from everything

NOTE:
Again this review was written from my experience and stay during the second week of June 2012. I am not employed by Suncani or the RYHH. If you find this review useful then please pass it on. Enjoy your time in Hvar!

Stayed at the Riva Hvar from July 7 to July 11 2012. It was just perfect for me. A hotel with an excellent location, the quintessence of a Hvar experience. I recommend the superior rooms on the 3rd floor with City view. There was Brigitte Bardot in mine (304). The front view rooms have a great view on the port but might be a bit noisy. Some might find the room too small but I would not have traded it for a suite. It had everything I wanted (you can slide your suitcase flat open under the bed to make space!!! The team (reception, housekeeping and restaurant) are extremely helpful and responsive. They just get things done. Breakfast was simple with no fancy ice scuplture but again you have to know what you want. Breakfast outdoor a few meters from the water was heaven. One last note. Morning tea is very important for me. Therefore I always travel with my Ceylan tea bags in my bags. Not sure you will find Lipton or Twinnings everywhere in Croatia. Thumbs up for the Riva Hvar.

Great location right on the Riva and right next to tons of restaurants and water taxis. Staff is incredibly helpful and even called around to tourist agencies to find kayaking tours that met our needs. Rooms are quite stylish and also clean. BE ADVISED HOWEVER that there are no doors on the bathroom and everything is glass including the "door" to the toilet. Absolutely no privacy between you and whoever else is in the room when you're in the toilet or the shower. This could be awkward for some people.
