Very nice staff, amazing view from the "superior" room. The bathroom needs minor change (holders for soap) and a bathtub, but the place, the restaurant, the staff is magnificent. A perfect place for relaxing and only15 minutes walk from the town. I would definitely go back.

When we phoned for a reservation a staff member at the Reception counter had told us that they were fully booked - and that they had provided us with the best available price. This appeared to be a blatant mis-truth. When we arrived, there was not one person in the lobby, on the patio, at the beach or in the bar. Even hotel staff mentioned how quiet (ie. not busy) their hotel was. We were given a room on the lower floor which was truly unattractive. Their first offering of a room had purple walls, dated furniture, and an obstructed view -the top of a palm had invaded the balcony and made any view impossible to see. It was the worst room we had been given during our 5 week stay in Europe. When I suggested that we stay for only 1 night, and return to Split the next day, we were offered a minimally better room - but still really below industry standards. Their 3rd room was better - larger, more modern, and on a better floor with a partial sea view. Hotel's location is lovely - but the hotel itself appears 'dated' and a bit run down. Lounge chair padding is warped and/or ripped, bedding and towels are old (sheets had a hole or stain - blood? - on them), and some rooms definitely need re-painting and newer furniture. Bar and dining areas are lovely though expensive. I would return to Hvar in a heartbeat but would probably not stay at this hotel.

Dear jrt1981

Thank you for taking time in reviewing your stay and pointing some inconveniences. I would like to explain you your impression of apparently not full hotel. Hotel Podstine maximum occupancy is surely below 100 guests in hotel. Having a very large garden, and beach even on full occupancy and with all guest in hotel premises, hotel may seem not full to random bystander. Also a very large number of guests every day like to take excursion, rent a boat and visit islands in front, so not to spend day on the hotel premises. This is also the reason why a lot of guests like to be in Podstine – and why a member of staff noticed that we are a quite hotel compared to other non quiet hotels in Hvar.
As for the rooms, I explained many times that hotel Podstine has 3 different room type and accordingly 3 different prices. Booking a least expensive room at “best available price” will result in having room with garden view, or how you noticed “invaded balcony with palm”. Being you disappointed with standard room, and with a superior room, and seeing how you stayed only one night, we offered you a free upgrade to more expensive room with a sea view. Again main difference in room quality is not interior but the view, and size of the room. Also we got our 4th star last year after a detailed check up from Ministry of tourism, so I would question your remark about industry standards.
Lounge chair padding got some rain in early June and even that was guaranteed “water resistant”, they fell apart. End of June we got brand new ones in change for the old ones. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may caused you. Lastly I would also question any kind of stains or sheets or towels, as we proud ourselves in extra care in cleanliness.

Thank you and kind regards
Hotel Podstine

The best quality of this hotel is it's location: the private beach is to die for and the hotel is nicely tucked away from Hvar Town's hassle. Like said by many, the rooms are not four star quality but we didnt mind. The breakfast is good and you can order cappucino or other espresso drinks for free. I do recommend this place although it's not totally great value for the price (as the place is expensive).

This hotel has so much charm, truly lovely. You've almost landed in Thailand, but you're in Croatia! This is truly a romantic place to stay, the views, palm trees, private beach, the spa and i could go on and on!...our only let down were the rooms, which are just standart, no more no less. The colour scheme is strange, rooms are tiny and didn't scream honeymoon baby! So we hardly stayed there, we were in the annexe, so i cannot review the rooms in the main hotel, but i thought the rooms were expensives for the basic quality. We would have stayed longer if the rooms were nicer but being on honeymoon, we needed more comfort from that point of view. But I Loved this beautiful boutique hotel, please, just redocarate your rooms to make it a 5 stars stay!

Room Tip: Stay in main hotel if you can, at the reception level for the amazing views!

Understated, very nice hotel with great facilities and friendly staff. Good breakfast. They'll make all kinds of healthy smoothies and juices and bring them to you on the "beach." A nice, quiet counterpoint to Hvar town'ss bustle.

The private beach area and setting are beautiful, we spent a couple days just relaxing at the lounge areas. Service and people were all very accomodating, but the rooms are just on a different level. For the price they are just not up to par. If we return to the island I would not repeat.

We stayed in May in low Eason and loved it! Such a charming hotel with great facilities. Personally I don't like uptight hotels, and so appreciated the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to help us out when we needed it. I liked that they do not leave the spa facilities running all day, but were thoughtful abut the planet and switched things off when they were not in use. Because it was low season we were upgraded twice to a simple but comfortable and clean room. The food was good, the location wonderful and the sun loungers great for relaxing. Along the coast was rock-climbing access which was great for us. We also enjoyed the walk along the seafront into Hvar town, and being able to retreat to a quiet hotel at night. Most importantly the staff were fun and friendly, but left us to enjoy our time without interruption. Great service. We intend to visit again later this year, which is not something I've done before in a beach hotel.
