“Peaceful with the best sunning beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2011

I requested a deluxe superior room and it was large, hip, and modern with a big balcony overlooking the descending patios of the hotel, trees and mediterranean ocean. They have a large breakfast buffet in the mornings, with a charming staff who will make lattes or whatever is requested. You can dine on the large balcony outside of the glass-walled dining room or down on the lower areas nestled amongst the trees.

Hvar Island is all about Where are you Going to Sunbathe? Like most of Croatia, it is a rocky coast and each hotel has its own beach vibe... Podstine is about the last one on the row from town... to me this was ideal, because no one is walking through. Others might prefer the loud resort vibe of Amfora. For me, the Podstine was divine, with a lovely deck and walkway built out into the rocks in the ocean... and the usual ladder descent into the water for swimming. It absolutely does not matter that it is a 15-20 minute walk from town because you only go into town maybe once or twice a day for shopping, dinner, partying... most of the time you want to lounge by your sunbed and relax into the mediterranean vibe. The town is very small anyway. You can also mix it up by going to the hipster little bar which is the next establishment toward town and feel like an expat in the top secret spot, or hang out with the muscle builders and 20-somethings at Bubba Gumps daily rental sunbeds.
Podstine had a piano player on one night and a sophisticated live jazz band another night with dinner on the patio. I was travelling alone and felt very comfortable here. It seemed peaceful and the staff was superb and really helped me in finding my lost phone. It's a more sophisticated place and very relaxing.
They will pick you up from the ferry.

Room Tip: pay more, get the superior deluxe

Loved our stay, great for families. A pleasant walk to town but far enough away from the crowds. The waterfront terrace is delightful as is the swimming. Rooms are basic, but the total sum of the experience perfect for our family.

The view from the room and the breakfast veranda was peaceful and Zen like. The staff could not be more helpful. They are knowledgeable of their island, and took the initiative to softly suggest hotel services. We were very well taken care of. Because it is more of a boutique hotel, the atmosphere is intimate and that of a quiet luxury.

Despite finding our room badly outdated and small, we would still recommend staying in the Podstine for it's location and exterior amenities. Although others have mentioned large rooms, our room was actually really small--saved by double doors opening onto a very private balcony with a lovely view of the ocean. We understand that the rooms are to be upgraded, but that has not yet happened. A minor upgrade would help in the meantime (get rid of the awful wallpaper, paint all the walls white except for the stone wall, get rid of the chair/bed stuck in the corner and replace it with a comfy arm chair, replace the heavy drapes with white cotton ones and the bed scarf with another in an attractive colour) then later, when it is affordable, do
more major work, like replacing the dark woodwork and furniture and improving the bathroom. The exterior seating areas are really lovely, and don't require much upgrading at all. The staff is all friendly and excellent. We were upgraded to a sea view room as we came late in the season, but still found the room expensive relative to other places we stayed. we would not have felt this way if the room had been more attractive. And we would still choose the Podstine over hotels in the town.

Room Tip: Be sure to stay in a sea view room with a balcony, preferably on the second floor or above.

Amazing view of neighbouring islands. Wonderful private beach. Some vey large rooms. Great spa and pool. Beautiful restaurant and bar. Very clean. Daily maid service. Free wifi, International TV channels. Excellent breakfast. A very scenic 20 minute walk to town. Free shuttle to Hvar ferry port or bus station on departure. I would recommend this hotel to people who like a bit of luxurious chilling and peace and quiet.

Podstine is a nice break from busy Hvar; about a 20 min scenic walk into the town (might be a little far out for some). Lovely swimming area, very relaxing. Excellent staff at reception, not in the rest of the hotel unfortunately. Rooms in some need of refurbishment but still nice; excellent dinner.

Five things decide a hotels quality, Location, room size, bathroom, staff/management, room quality. This hotel gets all five right. A short and scenic 30 minute walk to the town, out of the mayhem but close enough, helpful staff with a good sense of humour, wonderful "beach", and equally wonderful views.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view.
