Description: Restaurant Palace Paladini is placed at the old ancient part of City of Hvar. We offer fish delicious, meat and vege specialities, greatest wines and champagnes (Dom Perignon/Rose, Crystal, Moet & Chandon...).The palace where you are about to eat belonged to an old noble family from the Hvar called Paladinic (Paladinis - Italian version; de Paladinis - Latin version).Palace de Paladinis, built in renaissance style, is one of the most beautifull and outstanding Hvar palaces, situated in the southern part of the oldest nucleus of the town Hvar below the fortress known as Forto Spagnuolo. The upper palace Paladini was once the residence of Petar Hectorovic. Coat of arms found above the main entrance to the palace, on the family well erected in the garden, on the renaissance basin on the balcony of the palace and on the balustrade of the balcony bares two motives: a royal lily on the upper field and eagle`s wing of Subic family on the lower field. The present-day form of the palace (ground-floor, three upper floors and a monumental balcony - one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia) was designed by Nikola Paladinic, son of Jakov, who fought very bravely in the seabattle between Venetian and Turkish fleet. After the battle the Republic of Venice proclaimed him the knight of St Marc with golden toga.Palaces of Hvar noblemen clearly evidence of economic prosperity and cultural development of the local families in the 15th and 16th century. Furthermore, rich plebeian families always tried to keep step with noblemen which is quite manifest from their residental palaces (Vukasinovic-de Lupis, Garguric) that equal in their beauty even the most famous of noblemen of the town Hvar (Lucic, Paladini, Hectorovic, Gazarovic, Garguric, Vukasinovic...) where not erected during the period of town`s greatest prosperity, but only after the year 1571 when turks burnt the town and 1579 when lightning struck the ammunition warehouse at the town fortress causing a tremendous catastrophy.

“Amazing meal, lovely garden”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We found this restaurant whilst wandering the back streets, and were amazed when we saw the garden, it was beautiful and had a great ambiance, and was very busy. We had Whole Scampi with the tails peeled and wrapped in dalmatian ham, with spinach and tartar sauce, it was AMAZING, one of the best meals we've ever had, it was all beautifully presented. We asked for some chips, but were given vegetables, and then chips turned up as we were finishing and we couldn't eat them, but were charged for both. This place isn't cheap, our bill for two (including one beer each) was £100, and you can't use a VISA card, they did offer a discount for cash and luckily I had enough on me (or we'd have been washing up!). Despite these minor things we both thought it was an amazing meal and can thoroughly recommend it, the staff were great and the fish being served look amazing too!

“Fresh fish and great ambiance”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We happened upon this restaurant in the late afternoon hours for an early dinner. The place was somewhat empty and the outdoor garden beautiful. Our waiter was very attentive and gave us a free appetizer. We were presented with a plate of 5 whole fresh fish of which we chose one- type of local fish called kovac. It came out perfectly grilled along with 2 sides of veggies. The food was spectacular, the local white wine delicious, and the waiter knowledgeable and attentive. We have dined in many places and were quite impressed. Not sure about some of the poorer reviews. I don't agree. It was on the expensive side, but we did get fish straight from the ocean. Not every day we have that. Highly recommend.

“Avoid at all costs!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

This was the only restaurant we visited in our 5 day stay on Hvar that we chose without doing a little research first... big, big mistake!

It looked nice enough on the surface but was a truly miserable experience that ended in a huge argument with all the staff that near ruined our holiday.

Our waiter was utterly inexperienced and equally ill presented. Within 5minutes of us having sat down he'd gone as far as to describe half of the menu's content as 'bulls**t'... charming! But then I guess you could say we were warned...

The food was consistently dreadful but we persevered through each course not wishing to cause upset (in hindsight I wish we had spoken up earlier), but when the final bill arrived and our 'SeaBass for two' which on the menu was priced at 290KN per 0.5kg (and the fish we were shown no bigger than 1kg) came in at almost 1000KN we could not contain our frustration any longer.

We've eaten in Croatia countless times... and have never been dissapointed but this place was simply awful. Save yourself the misery, do a little research first and try any number of the wonderful restaurants that are only a few yards away from this insult to Croatian cuisine and hospitality.

Dear guest,
Thanx for your comment, but you know that most of it is not true and I have to write our side of a story that your girlfriend confirmed too. You arrived with your girlfriend in our restaurant and only you wanted to eat fish in the salt crust. Waiter explained that it is not possible to make fish in a salt crust for one person (that dish is possible to make only with a fish over one kilo). Waiter offered you to take fish on a grill for one person or fish platter for one person. You were insisting to eat fish in a salt crust so your girlfriend decided to eat that as well because you were really into that. Your waiter then showed you a plate with catch of a day fish and you have chosen your fish personally. There is no wild fish from the sea that waight exactly one kilo. At the end when the bill arrived you were angry that your fish is not exactly one kilo and you didn't want to pay even though you ate everything. Then you started to make scenes to your girlfriend and arguing with her because she told you that you are not right. you went out of the restaurant with her wallet and she wanted to pay for the bill when we normally explained her about the waight of the fish and that everything is written in the menu. She was ashamed of your behavior and felt sorry for the scene. You somehow forget to mention the end of the story, where we didn't want you two to fight, and what we did at the end... We do not want to argue any more, because you know what is the real story, and you know most of your review is not true. Just for your info - prices of fish are everywhere almost the same in the town, and you should know that Hvar prices are higher than anywhere else in Croatia, except Dubrovnik, where the prices are even higher.

The quality of the food here is excellent, and the waiter was super friendly. They had birthday party for some guests, and atmosphere was positive. Restaurant was full, but stuff was fast and professional. The waiter saw that we were enjoying ourselves and treated us with delicious cherry brandy on the house :D

“Don't miss this place!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We knew that the best restaurants in Hvar are in the streets behind the main square - and we probably picked the best! The atmosphere is great and the service was outstanding. Everyone there was just so friendly. The waiters were polite and warm, drinks came fast and they had a good recommendation on wine and food. We had a really great time and I'm so happy we found this place. I'm a big fish eater and their fish was exquisite! We were eating the catch of the day prepared in the oven and we had one of the best cheesecakes I've ever tried. We really felt like the staff wanted us to have a great time and to enjoy their food, which we really did. Our warmest recommendation. Will definitely come back next summer!
