“250€ per room totally not worth it”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We booked 4 different rooms and except for the location and for the building any other aspect about that hotel is wrong. Very noisy (day & night) even more because there is no AC in the rooms so you have to sleep with windows open. Really old bathrooms. The swimming pool is tinny and very difficult to get into it because it is surrounded by walls. I never have problems to sleep but the heat and the noise were awful.

Room Tip: If you want to be quiet do not get a room with seaview. Those are also the hottest rooms.

Firstly the position of this hotel is fantastic! It is right on the harbour, with the bustling town square to the left. In front of the hotel is a terrace bar, which is perfect for a wind down drink or a nightcap! Now, once you're inside, the hotel reception is bright and airy, with doors leading out to the swimming pool, which I'll come back to later. The reception staff were helpful and polite, with English not being a problem. The lift up to the rooms is small - 4 of you and it's cosy!!
Our room was at the back of the hotel, but that was fine - after all we only slept there! Admittedly, there wasn't much of a view out of the window, just an orange tree, behind which was another building, however look up to the skyline and there was a lovely view of the fort!
There was a ceiling fan which we kept on all the time and during the day, when we were out we kept the shutters closed to keep the sun out of the room and this worked ok.
The bed was huge and so comfortable - we really slept well for the week we were there. The bathroom was small and basic, but the shower worked well, we had fresh towels every day and the hairdryer was great. Toiletries were provided too. Ok, there were odd tiles on the walls, but it was clean and perfectly adequate.
We were able to store our suitcases under the beds, so they were out of the way.
Breakfast was wonderful, sitting on the terrace overlooking the harbour. Food was plentiful and there was a wide variety, from scrambled eggs and bacon to yougurts, fresh fruit, croissants and various types of bread and rolls, ham and cheese and even rice pudding!!!
Although we were on a b&b basis we ate at the hotel for dinner on two nights and had fabulous meals - the waiters were so nice and couldn't do enough for you.
Back to the pool - it is only small and there are only about 8 or 9 sunbeds, but it's a real suntrap! There is also a sauna, but we didn't use it.
Go to the Amfora for a brilliant day by the pool - you will have to pay, but there's no towels left on the sunbeds there!
Hvar is a wonderful place and I look forward to going back again soon!

I stayed here with my fiance for 2 nights and we couldn't wait to leave! Dont be drawn in by the lovely pictures of this hotel. The hotel looks great from the outside, with pool and great central location in Hvar town but the lift once you check in is the first hint of the sub-standard rooms and hospital style corridors that lie in wait for you! Firstly make sure you get a room with a sea view otherwise your room will feel like a prison cell, with hardly any natural light as the rooms at the back of the hotel are very close to the building behind. Next is the non-existent air conditioning which for £100 a night should surely be standard. The ceiling fans just do very little to provide any comfortable level of temperature to sleep in. The standard of decor and facilities in the room is also very poor. For example, no iron, nowhere to put luggage, tiny tv, very limited electric sockets, no wifi, a fridge that barely worked, a phone that doesn't have room or reception service. Enough said about the room I think. Breakfast? Dont bother, what should be hot was cold, and what should be cold was warm!
The hotels only saving grace was the politeness of the staff and speedy check in. Look elsewhere and pay more if you need to is our advice.

Room Tip: Get a room at the front with a seaa view.

Service minded staff, they took really good care of us, made us feel very welcome and they did that extra something. The hotel was simple but very clean and nice. The view from both our room and the breakfast restaurant was amazing with a view overlooking of the harbour. We will definitely stay at the Palace the next time we visit Hvar.

When arriving in to Hvar the Palace Hotel is one of the first you will see due to it's great location and the architecture at the front of it.

Myself and 3 friends stayed there for 4 nights. We had booked 2 rooms with 2 single beds but when arriving at the rooms we noticed we had been given double beds. We spoke to the receptionist and she apologised but explained that there were no other rooms for us. I don't know if this was a fault of the hotel or the booking website but it was quite disappointing. The company that owns the hotel also owns other hotels in Hvar and the receptionist very kindly tried to find rooms for us there but the rooms were quite expensive. The receptionist then offered us a family room which was a room with 2 single beds which was adjoined to a room with a drop down sofa. We decided to go with this, 3 of us in room and 1 had a big double bed to themselves!

This wasn't an ideal start but the receptionist was very helpful, as were the other staff we encountered on our stay.

The rooms don't have air con but have a big fan, the rooms were quite warm. Also I feel the rooms could do with modernising, the decor looked about 30 years old.

The great aspect of this hotel is the location, right next to the waterfront, restaurants everywhere you turn and lively bars just a stones throw away. Breakfast can be had indoors or out on the balcony which gives impressive views of the harbour. The quality of the breakfast was excellent.

The Palace Hotel was average and nice but if I was to come back to Hvar I would probably spend a bit more money and stay in another hotel.

And I definitely want to come back to Hvar!

First off there is no air conditioning. The room we were shown was small, dark and dull facing a wall. We left without checking in. The location is fine, facing the harbour and the square which is party central.

It's perfect location. We had a great view from the room. Rooms are clean, and bed is comfortable . Staff at the reception was helpfull and they told us where to go and what to see on the island. At that time there was the manager, and she also took some time and had a drink with us at the terrace. Really pleasent.
