We went here on our first night, having arrived in the dark and read in the Hvar newsletter from our hotel that restaurants with fish on ice out front were a decent pick for sea food. This was one of the first places we came across and not particularly knowing our way around, we ventured in.

We spent about 1200 Kuna in here. At the time I thought that wasn't awful on price as we shared a starter and then shared one of the large fishies they had out front, however having had a further 8 nights in Croatia there is much MUCH better quality food and service to be had out there for this amount of lay out. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

My two main gripes were, having been seated, we had to wave down our own waiter to take our orders. The service was absolutely fine after that, so it wasn't a big deal particularly. What really put me off however was our starter, the Captains Plate, which is a trio of seafood. Well one of this particular trio was so full of grit it felt like I was crunching on sand, to the point it actually hurt my teeth and I gave up with it. For the amount of money we spent in here, cleaning the grit out of the seafood isn't much to ask.

We then shared one of the fish plates between two, expertly filleted for us at the table. This was quite tasty and a generally nice dish.

The restaurant didn't offer any extras however, whereas the better restaurants, in which we maybe spent 1000 Kuna or so (cheaper, and we had two starters!) gave us complementary drinks on arrival, amuse bouches, liquor at the end of our meal... I suggest if you intend to spend a good amount of money, there are far better options than this place. That's not to say it was awful, just a bit of a rip off when put in context (our second most expensive meal on holiday, but near the bottom of the list in terms of our experience).

Did not appreciate the waiters attitude, overall average service. Had better in many other places. Wouldn't go back.

This we found in the guidebook, and we had a great meal here. We ordered a kilo Sea-bass, for two, and we had plenty enough. The place seemed very popular, and were packed with guests, while the neighboring restaurants were not even half full. The service was efficient and smiley.

The food was absolutely terrible. We had prawns, seafood risotto and grilled vegetables. The prawns were delivered undercooked and the risotto was simply inedible. The server did put the prawns back on the grill for us, but there was no apology or quality check. Also, we never received the side of rice we ordered, on not one, but two separate occasions.

When it came time for the bill, we were asked to wait a few minutes three times due to technical difficulties. It took 15-20 minutes for us to settle the tab.

The view was gorgeous which is the only positive of the restaurant.

We were required to go to another restaurant on the way home as we were both starving after our "dinner".

In summary, save your kuna and just go to your second choice.

A bit surprised by some negative reviews. This restaurant is excellent at what they offer. It does not pretend to be haute cuisine but does produce honest seafood in an atmospheric friendly terraced sea view setting. It is close quarters but not so that you hear the next table's conversation. We ate here twice in our stay in Hvar because it delivered what we want as a grown up family having a chilled time together. I am a seafood junky as both consumer and cook and was impressed with a variety of courses from mussels to John Dory via anchovies and I for one liked the free tuna as it was done delicately rather than over moussed and so getting in the way of the fish taste. And the service was efficient and always with a smile!
