“Absolutely divine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2010

I visited the monastery for the first time in 1959, then it was a monastery, not an attraction for digest tourists. It was a most sublime place of heavenly peace. Then the tourists came. Still, in a quiet summer night, you can feel the divine presence.
One of the best places in the Mediterranean, if not Europe. If Hvar had only this place, it would make it a 'must'.

“An asset for Hvar Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2010

On the edge of this chic town, popular with millionaires, is a fifteenth century monastery. As well as being used for small concerts, there is a museum displaying amphorae found in the Adriatic Sea and, very eclectically, a collection of currency over a number of decades!

The building also houses an art gallery comprising both modern and historical works. In another room is the gigantic painting 'The Last Supper' which, on its own, makes the place worth visiting. Outside is an extremely old Cypress tree. All this is set beside the water making it very picturesque.
