Our hotel made us a reservation at „Giaxa“ for 22:00. We had been a bit early, already arrived 21:45 so the lady had shown us our future table that was still occupied, informed as that as they pay we’ll be seated. So we went to the nearby wine bar, had a drink and returned 22:03. The lady at that time had an argument with a few guest of which the reservation was forgotten. Anyway as she was finished she brought us to the table (which she had pointed before) and seated us. We weren’t sitting 2 minutes when she returned and informed that this isn’t our table but another one and we should stand up and wait so she can place other guests at “our” table.
After standing another 25 minutes in this narrow street (nothing to drink offered) we were guided to another table. The waiter took our order and soon after he brought some “special bread with tomato”. It wasn’t standing on our table 30 seconds when he returned, said “sorry”, took the bread and brought it to the neighboring table. The he came back and informed that ours will arrive soon.
The first dish we got was our second, the filled Gnocchi. At that time I thought ‘okay, they’ll bring the first (the assortment of cold fish starters) second. After we had the quite tasteless and slimy (overcooked) Gnocchi we got our main dishes. I asked him about the first, he looked at me and said that he must have forgotten. He offered to bring the main dishes back (to keep them warm) and serve the first course. We refused and instead ate our main. The one of my wife (grilled Scampi) has been okay, but my beef medallions with truffle have been just horrible! The meat was medium (I ordered rare) and the sauce stroppy. When he picked it up I informed him that it was just horrible.
Anyway (because we’ve been still hungry) we ordered two desserts, the almond semifreddo and the Hvar cake – both was very good. But the Espresso they served with the dessert has been too cold.
I really don’t know for what the cook of this restaurant got all the medals and certificates – for sure not for the preparation of the food we had, certainly not for a good management of the service.
It’s a real petty that such an unprofessional cooking spoils such a romantic place!
