Cavtat is a wonderful bay location and the Hotel Croatia is a 5 * hotel built on the rock side. Very large, spacious hotel with all the amenities one would expect from this category. Our room was on the 9th floor, garden side, although very pleasant, if possible pay the extra for a sea view, which is spectacular. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, food very good although self-service and more canteen style rather than 5 *. Overall rated and would return.
Note not suitable for people with limited mobility due to rock side location.

Room Tip: Use the free buggy service to the harbour whenever possible.

We stayed for 11 nights , fabulous room on 6th floor with sea view which we highly recommend , the room was very roomy and quiet, cleaned each day to a high standard by the lovely Maria who was a lovely lady. The hotel was spacious with several eating area's the main restaurant being adequate but if we return we would have BB because there were some lovely restaurants in Cavtat , we did visit the bars which were very nice and friendly,
Loved Cavtat would definitely return also would stay at the Hotel Croatia. So easy to get to Dubrovnik and other places by boat or local bus, boat being the better option plus there are some lovely walks around Cavtat with lots of watering holes enroute !
Would recommend this Hotel we found the staff in each area very friendly , fabulous holiday, loved it .

Room Tip: Sea facing room, we were on the 6th floor , fantastic,

We stayed here for a week in September for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed Half Board and quickly realised that wasn't for us, the breakfasts were good but the evening meals were quite repetitive and often only warm. I found the staff on the desk and the serving staff to be quite rude, but the guy who picks you up in the buggy was always fun and polite! Location is stunning, sea views are just beautiful. On a few occasions the buggys battery was dead so we had to walk back from cavtat but this wasn't to bad, just a few hundred stairs! Take advantage of the cocktail offer at spinnakers it's lovely roof top seating area. Great place for kayaking we hired one for the day and went island hopping. Boats too Dubrovnik are every hour and a must. Cavtat is lovely with lots of nice bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: Sea view is stunning

Hotel Croatia is a good base from which to explore Cavtat, a beautiful small town on the Dalmatian coast. Cavtat is a much more relaxed and peaceful place to stay if you wish to explore nearby Dubrovnik, with the #10 bus available quite regularly from the bus stop near the small Pemo supermarket. It cost 20kn each way per person. Be warned, though, that the bus journey itself can be horrifying, with phenomenal amounts of people crammed into the aisles, so be prepared for a sweaty squash lasting around 40 minutes! Not to mention some seriously steep cliff drops inches away from the wheels! But Dubrovnik is, of course, worth even this sacrifice, a genuinely stunning city with endless attractions and charm. Worth repeated visits.

Back to the hotel, itself. Stunning location, with a wonderful coastal/woodland walk to one side and pretty Cavat just minutes away the other. People complain about the steps to the hotel, but they take hardly any time and only the unfit need worry. For people with genuine mobility issues, the hotel provides a buggy. Some lazy, morbidly obese visitors do try to nab it, thus denying genuine cases, rather than waddle down an easy walk.

The rooms at the hotel were a good size, with comfy beds and a decent shower/bath. The whole place was spotless throughout. In terms of food, there are issues. The dinner options were run of the mill, rather than exciting, but the desserts were rotten. The main irritation was the hotel's horrendous overpricing of drinks. A half litre of beer in the dining room was 39kn, so that's not far off the equivalent of a fiver a pint for what is a dirt cheap local beer. In Cavtat, I had a beer for between 15-20kn, a fair enough price. The hotel is very cheeky to charge such a high price. A very small Orangina was over three quid equivalent. To be fair, a small glass of wine was 19kn, not as ridiculous, but the white wine option reminded us of cat urine in smell and didn't taste too sparkling. The red was drinkable plonk, nothing more.

Breakfast in the hotel was OK, but seeing the fruit covered in small flies wasn't inviting and the sausages tasted appalling. More of a Croatian or Balkan theme might have added some character, rather than trying to copy English food badly. Having said that, the coffee was very pleasant and the views of the town beautiful.

Despite my gripes, I don't go on holiday for the hotel, I go for the region. All hotels have shortcomings and at the end of the day this one is well situated with decent rooms. I would definitely stay again, but not half-board. It is cheap enough to eat in Cavtat and I would rather experience a bit of variety and local culture next time. As for Croatia, a stunning country with so much to offer. It rewards multiple visits and I sincerely hope they don't replace the kuna with the dreaded euro and its inevitable price hikes!

First class hotel in a fantastic location close to the airport.but very little plane noise. Excellent food at the Steak House Restaurant, buffet breakfast was very varied although the hot selection was not to my taste.

The stunning town of Cavtat is a short walk away down 120 plus steps OK going but hard work coming back from town. The hotel does have a golf buggy to collect people but we did not use it.

We would recommend this hotel to other people and would like to visit again sometime.

Big old dated hotel which dominates the beautiful town of Cavtat with its ugly Communist concrete building.

On arrival nobody offered any help with luggage, just passed us a key card and gave no instruction on how to find out room.

The only hotel i've ever stayed in where i couldn't phsycially sleep at all due to the foolish management disabling the air conditioning in rooms & putting the heating on.
One night the room temperature reached 27 degrees.

The place is full of pensioners & international overnight stops for bus trips.

A member of reception staff refused to make a local phone call on by behalf to my holiday rep and told me to call myself from my room... then had the cheek to try charge me for the call the room.

The hallways are very remnant of footage from North Korea's buildings and decor.

Breakfast was the usual all you can eat low grade junk you get in most all inclusive hotels around the med.

At roughly £100 a night this was a total rip off & wish we just stayed in one of the local villa apartments.

Don't let this put you off visiting Cavtat as it is a beautiful town with really friendly people and nice restaurants.

My only positive comment about the place is that the cleaning staff did a good job of the rooms making the beds and cleaning the rooms daily.

Room Tip: Avoid the garden view rooms unless you want lots of insect bites.

We stayed on a half board basis for 2 weeks late Sept to early Oct 2013. We had a sea view room which was excellent. The room was cleaned daily and was spotless. The A/C was a bit strange and seemed to have a mind of its own. The staff were always polite, friendly and helpful. Main problem was the food. There was always plenty of choice but it was only ever warm, not hot. The 'hot' water provided for tea/coffee was occasionally hot, mostly warm and sometimes tepid! Even when we asked for a change this was no better. The sauna, spa and swimming pools are all first class. The sun bathing on the rocks on the sea front side of the hotel are very quite, peaceful and to be recommended. The steps into Cavtat are ok going down but can be a bit tiring on the upward journey. The cost of drinks in the bars are a bit excessive at twice the price of the bars and restaurants in Cavtat. The hotel is an ideal location for using as a base for exploring the rest of the area.
