We didn't request a sea view so weren't disappointed when we didn't get one, though the view from the room was very nice and we could actually glimpse the harbour. We knew in advance about the steps so there again no complaints. The room itself was spotless and well maintained,in fact the the whole hotel was spotless including the outside toilet and changing facilities. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the food is excellent. The resort itself is lovely though that's not what this review is about.Everyone we spoke to had nothing but praise for the hotel and I agree,it's excellent.Ive read complaints about the wi.fi but I found it ok in the room and very good in reception, but on holiday do you really want to use it that much? I certainly don't.If we were to return to Cavtat we would have no reservations at all about using this hotel,we couldn't fault it.

3 couples spent a week at the Hotel Croatia. We were all satisfied. The venue is in a commanding position but because of this is probably unsuitable for people with mobility problems. There are 126 steps up from the "Beach" area or the village of Cavtat. The hotel is vast but room sizes, catering, housekeeping, administration, views and the helpful attitude of the staff make a stay here very pleasant. Its well situated for visits to Dubrovnik,Cilipi and Montenegro and ferries to islands in the Elaphiti group. There is no beach as such but swimming is from the hotel "beach club" which is a well appointed area in front of the Spinnaker restaurant or from some rocks on the South side.Every room seems to have a sea view.Transfer times to the airport are very short....its about 3 miles away. There are two swimming pools within the hotel itself.,immaculately kept. We had never stayed in a hotel of this size before and were a little apprehensive but it didnt seem crowded. One reason may be that guests may be on different tariffs.......some half board, some B and B........and clearly different lengths of stay.A very good experience on the whole but this was June and I wondered if high season made things feel different.Overall feeling was that this hotel is good value and well-run.

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side may be preferable with sea views across the bay.The bathrooms were good with nice toiletries. We thought the sound proofing everywhere was good.

This is the first time ever that we have consecutively returned to the same hotel as it ticked so many boxes the first time round and we were not disappointed on our second outing. Once again, the pick up from the airport was on time, our room was ready upon arrival, the room itself was clean, tidy and quiet so we got straight down to the business of relaxing for a week!

It was great seeing all the same friendly faces and making new friends too, big thanks to Desa at Jet2 for her advice and Rino in the restaurants for his attentive service.

We were very sad to leave but I predict a 3rd return in the future.

Some advice (beyond what has been mentioned before):

Do not hire moutain bikes - EVER! Snakes and lizards on the road I can handle but not 35 degress on rollercoaster roads with absolutely no bike route markings. There was nothing wrong with the bikes and the shop would even pick you up in the car if you got lost/tired but even Lance Armstrong would find this testing. Even the vendor (jokingly) called us masochists when we crawled back at the end of the day. Hire a scooter if you want to get about, 99% of the roads are very quiet.

We stayed for a week at the end of May. The weather was mixed, but despite a couple of thunder storms we had sun some time each day. The hotel is very spacious - including the bedrooms, spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed half board and the food was excellent. We had a sea view overlooking an island and our balcony had comfortable chairs, a table and was a good size. Would recommend day trips to Mostar in Bosnia and Montenegro. Cavtat is a lovely picturesque place and there are lovely walks around both the headland that the hotel sits on and the one from Cavtat itself. We travelled to Dubrovnik by boat from Cavtat and it was a very scenic trip and lovely to arrive via the old harbour in Dubrovnik. When visiting Dubrovnik we would recommend walking the walls and going on the cable car, but try and avoid going on a day when the cruise ships are visiting - our Jet2 rep advised us on this.

Room Tip: Sea view is worth paying extra for

I have just returned from a wonderful week in Cavtat and the hotel Croatia - what a contrast to be back in England !! Wanted to write review straight away so as to remember all the points! Cavtat is beautiful and a place to rest and find peace amongst natural beauty- it is truly stunning and I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed- if you are contemplating it please go ! Probably not the best place if you like lively nights as very quiet and not much entertainment other than good food , people watching and relaxing but if that is what you need then perfect! Weather was fantastic and plenty of natural shade everywhere so you can enjoy the sea or pool throughout the day!
Hotel Croatia is the main hotel of the resort and has a lot to offer but I hope they continue to strive to be a first class hotel rather than become complacent due to the fact that choice of accommodation is limited!
The good points: Sea view rooms- more expensive but offer uninterrupted views of the beautiful Adriatic Sea , Main areas of the hotel have spectacular views of Cavtat , spacious rooms which are cleaned daily and offer a cool break from the heat, well mannered polite staff who will do anything for you with a smile, plenty of seating areas and shade for when the sun gets too much, buggy service down to the harbour and up again.
The not so good points: when the buggy service breaks down there is no alternative transport laid on by the hotel which renders anyone unable to make the climb up and down hotel bound! The hotel must realise that it's main client base is middle aged and above and therefore without this service bookings will decline, maintenance of walk ways around the hotel particularly the path to beach area from the pool- broken paving slabs and steps make this hazardous- railings need to be checked too, broken umbrellas around the pool - replace as a matter of course rather than being asked, trim hedge on dining room wall so we can see the view whilst eating! Why don't you offer bottles of wine in the buffet dining room? Much as I appreciate that you charge five star prices I do expect a full glass of wine when I purchase a glass at dinner! It would be good to have some entertainment in the evenings such as singers, shows etc as this would be the expectation of visitors to a five star hotel and would be good for business too !
All this aside we had a great week and will return most definitely so please be assured of a wonderful visit - thank you !

Room Tip: Sea view is worth the extra money!

Dear ArchieBSurrey,

Thank you for staying in Hotel Croatia and for such a detailed review of your recent stay with us.
We are happy to see that you enjoyed your sea view room, our services, and facilities, and especially our staff friendliness and helpfulness. As we are blessed with all the natural beauty around us, we are happy that you took time to experience it too, and that you enjoyed our location and setting.
However, we are very sorry to hear all the less enjoyable aspects of your stay in our hotel. It is true that both golf carts broke down during your stay, but on the other hand, we did offer our guests our hotel car service. We apologize for all the inconvenience this caused, and for not informing you properly and on time on buggy replacement.
We hope that all the negative aspects did not affect on your whole stay experience, and we assure you that we took a good note of your comments, and we will do our best to improve our services for the future clients.
Once more we want to thank you for your visit and for sharing your review. Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to welcome you again in order to meet your full expectations and make your stay memorable once again in breath taking Cavtat.

Respectfully,
Hotel Croatia
