“Not bad but could do better”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Spent a week here with my wife and friends.Start with rooms, nice balcony, beds a bit hard
air conditioning didn't really work whatever we tried so the room was hot day and night.
Hotel layout doesn't show much imagination, the pool was freezing despite hot weather
which resulted in few people using it.Service was excellent and waitresses most helpful,
Food on a buffet style and pretty boring, often you couldn't have the dish you wanted because
they were not very quick to re stock. All in all pretty average.

Dear Rod,

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion in Tripadvisor, we strongly believe that listening to our guests is the clue to success. Please accept our most sincere apologies for not being able to fulfill your expectations.

We have read your remarks on the quality of food and drinks with a lot of attention and we are grateful that you shared your opinion as this will certainly help us to improve. As we speak, our responsible chef and maître are revising the procedures to ensure that our demanding quality standards are encountered and to guarantee that all palates will be delighted with our culinary offers.

We are glad to inform you, that facing next season and due to a few comments like yours related to the issue with the air conditioning, a project is set up to adapt the dates of its working to the reality of the climatologic circumstances instead of planning it accordingly to the theoretic dates of heat. We strive to offer as much comfort as possible and thanks to the fact that our guests are sharing the experience of their stay with us; we can adapt our services to their needs.

On the other hand, we would like to thank you for your kind words towards our staff. As all of them work very hard, striving to surpass guest expectations, we will definitely pass on your satisfaction with their services. They will surely celebrate that you wrote that they were excellent.

Last but not least, we want to thank you once more for sharing your opinion and letting us know what you missed and enjoyed during your holiday with us. We would be absolutely delighted to accommodate you again on your next visit to Croatia.

Sincerely yours,

A warm welcome on arrival, however we were told we'd only have to wait 35 minutes for our room key and ended up waiting over an hour. We'd booked a sea view room, which was worth paying the extra for. We had thunder storms for our first two days which meant we were limited on what we could do. This also meant that the boats into Dubrovnik were not running. However the facilities at the hotel were excellent. Anything that could be 'played' outdoors was brought indoors and although we didn't partake in the entertainment, other guests appeared to enjoy it. The centre of Cavtat is approx 20 minute walk from the hotel and is stunning, with plenty of walks which caters for all abilities. Highly recommended is the ice cream shop, straight across from the boats - never tasted ice cream like it! We went to Dubruvnik capital by boat twice during our stay (once the weather improved) and this is a definately 'not to be missed' trip. We also booked two tours by independant operators (much cheaper than with the hotel rep). Both were excellent.
The hotel itself is an excellent location, the food is superb with an impressive choice. Although this is a self service restaurant, there are also chefs' cooking fresh to indviduals requests for both breakfast and evening meal. Rooms were cleaned everyday and the hotel staff were incredibly friendly, especially the entertainment staff. My only criticism is that the TV only had the news as an english programme to watch, however if we'd not had 2 days of poor weather this wouldn't have mattered.

We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in a quiet location outside the busy centre of Dubrovnik and are already thinking of booking to go again in the future.

Room Tip: Request (or book in advance) a sea view room/balcony. We stayed on floor 3 which was incredibly qui...

Stayed in August 2012 with a friend and her son of 13 and had a very relaxing but hot (40°) week in the Dubrovnik region.

Positive: hotel is perfectly located to do trips to Dubrovnik or the other islands (pickup right in front of the hotel for about 10€), you can walk to Cavtat and to the little insula to find some shade and do some footbathing in the cold water, you can have your lunch in the cheap restaurants nearby and go spot some nice yachts in the harbour. Breakfast enough choice; you can ask your eggs or omelets to be prepared (however pancakes are not well baken),

Negative: worst evening animation I have ever experienced till now as they can't sign & are NOT funny and creative (only the girl giving sports and aqua gym was a professional). Very annoying when dining outside is the show for kids at 20h30 next to the dining tables. They should organise this somewhere else as it really disturbed a lot of guests (see picture). Room OK but not very modernised (old carpet and flooding shower that they tried to stop with towels), In August there were definitely not enough sundeck chairs, you really had to truggle for them and put your towel before 8am. The gym has really outdated equipment; not even a simple running belt, Food at dinner: appetizers not really tastfull (too much mayonaise or other camouflage), on te spot grilled fish or meat were always very good. Ordering drinks at the dinner was not well organised, took a lot of time

We have just come back from 2 weeks at this spotless clean hotel. A pefect location and loads to do. The food was excellent I had 10 types of fish all cooked in front of me. The staff could not do enough for us. They were so friendly and helpful. Thank you to Franceso and his team also Nevan for cooking me the lovely fish and Marco 1 of the waiters we cannot name them all.We would rate this hotel as one of the best we have stayed in.I had a private tennis lesson with Toni well worth the money.

We had a good holiday in this rather ugly hotel which is however, in a beautiful location. The food was buffet style and a bit monotonous but was well presented. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The outdoor pool was always too cold, the indoor one fine. There were plenty of sun beds available. It was a real asset to have a ferry to Dubrovnik from the edge of the hotel grounds.

Have to state from the start my hubby has rated this hotel as one of the best we have stayed at!!

We ate lunch times at the snack bar which was lovely, clean and bright with lovely staff, only had two slightly disappointed lunches there, when the young lady cook was off, sorry but her replacement was not up to her standards!!! The pizzas were far too big for one, its a shame as most people were leaving a lot, perhaps make a smaller one, as such a waste!! The Restaurant is very noisy and cluttered and difficult to get an outside table. They changed the serving area just before we came away which I think was a mistake, as straight away next breakfast, the queues for the cooking stations were blocking the serving dishes so people found it hard to reach them and kept having to ask to get to them!! Can't comment on the entertainment as it was always inside and as late diners, by the time we arrived there was no where to sit, and as a smoker no where to smoke either as no outside area to watch the show from. So in bed by 10 every evening as the English choice of T.V. was CNN or BBC Worldnews!!! Plenty of other channels with films for other nationalities though!!!

When we arrived the young man on reception was polite but gave very little information, just a piece of paper with the mealtimes on and pointed in the direction of block A and that we were on top floor. No porter?? We struggled to the ground floor up the stairs for the lift as we hadn't noticed the slope to the side!! The bedspread was marked and coffee stained and what looked like small blood spots, asked for it to be changed but no hurry it would do the next day, it was changed immediately!! Now if you like your coffee on the balcony in the morning like I do, then your out of luck as it states quite clearly in the room pamphlet that electrical household items are not allowed and will be removed from your room and returned on your departure!!!!! WHY??? Plug sockets only two, one for the T.V. and one on the floor by the bathroom!! WHY??? The tier structure for the All inclusive is ridiculous!! The premium All Inclusive is an extra £20 p.p.p.n. so we stayed on the normal All inclusive which meant no branded drinks (understandable) but they only do non-alchohol cocktails, WHY??? They could do cocktails with their local branded drinks surely?? Also you have to pay a supplement for some of the meals, in the snack bar, noticed that the prices up to about 45 kuna were included on the lower A.I. but a supplement of 15 kuna for a chicken and bacon sandwich which was priced at 30 Kuna!! WHY??? Little or no information either in our room or in the Reception regarding the outside area, bus timetables, local sights, places of interest, a map??? They have a very confusing signpost by the pool which doesn't make sense with the direction the arrow is pointing, said they had another Plaza restaurant??? Where?? Also they have a beach bar which I only noticed the day before we left, which wasn't signposted but this was a payable bar anyway, needless to say it was always empty!!

My minor concern was the insistence of the staff and guests to feed the cats!!! I know these cats are necessary as they help keep vermin at bay, but they are feral and as such carry disease, so why are they being fed from the hotel crockery??? Cups of milk are put down for them, or they are fed leftovers from the plates of guests!!! The dishwashers need to reach a certain degree in temperature and if this is not met then not all germs are killed. Why can't they be fed from their own bowls away from the dining area, as the more they are pampered the more they will become a nuisance, as I know from the scars on my own hand from a past holiday when a feral cat jumped up and clawed to get the food from my hand.

My major concern with this hotel, however is a Health and Safety issue!!! During a bad thunderstorm I noticed on the B block that their metal fire escape is situated at the side of the building, and that the torrential rain was cascading through the overflow channels which were situated at either side of the fire escape. With the strong winds the cascade was being blown directly at and over the fire escape, which would make it perilous to use in such conditions!!! Block A didn't have a fire escape, ours was a second inside stairway to use, however the stairway was situated at about 10 rooms away from our room, so if a fire broke out between the stairs and the last 10 rooms either side then we would be cut off with no escape!!!
Two fire exits in the dining room are blocked. They have red buttons to press to release them, however you would have to move the tables and chairs away from the front of one to get to the button, or a Baby Grand piano which is in front of the other!!! Also the Civitas bar has a fire escape door blocked by tables and chairs on both sides!!! This to me needs to be rectified immediately.

Room Tip: Block B gets the sun in the morning so not too hot rooms in the afternoon

Our visit to Croatia was spoiled by staying at the Iberostar Albatros. Bar staff were cheeky. There were clear Heath and Safety issues. Food was boring and repetitive. Electricity seemed to be rationed with stairways in the dark. WiFi, what WiFi. We have been in Iberostar hotels over the worlds one is the worst ever.
