A lovely little hotel on the edge of the harbour. You are in the heart of this beautiful resort. Never mind being serenaded by the guitarist, you will relax into the delicious ambience of Bol. The staff were marvellous.

And remember, even though there's no pool, you have use of the Blue Sun hotel's fantastic facilities only a 10 minute stroll away.

We have just got back from our holiday in Bol on the island of Brac and we stayed at Hotel Kastil. We are a married, professional couple in our 30s and we found Bol and Kastil were ideal for us. The hotel is simple, but recently decorated, comfy king size bed, with a safe and mini bar in the room. Our room looked right out over the gorgeous sea. The breakfast was great and very plentiful, fresh fruit, continental and cooked options, all taken on a peaceful terrace overlooking the bay - a great start to the day. By night, the terrace becomes a restaurant worthy of far more stars than a 3 star hotel, which Kastil is. The location is spot on - far enough away from the hideous giants of the Bluesun resort hotels down the road toward Zlatni Rat beach, and close enough to all the lovely waterside restaurants of Bol harbourfront. We stayed away from Zlatni Rat - overcrowded, thumping dance music all day and the smell of chips wafting at you. Head in the opposite direction towards the old monastery instead and you will find two quiet beaches away from the crowds with crystal clear sea that are much better for relaxing and enjoying the sun.

We barely saw another Brit in Bol (no England football shirts and Eastenders being shown in "Irish" pubs, thank goodness) and the English speakers we did meet were either the odd Brit, travelling Kiwis and the Croatians themselves, who all spoke excellent English.

The only downside is that one night there was some pretty loud music coming from the cocktail bar that is attached to Kastil, but a pair of earplugs sorted that out and by 2am the whole place was utterly quiet. It certainly shouldn't put you off staying there.

In all, Bol is a great place, Kastil is a well priced and very pleasant hotel, a great introduction to Croatia, and we will return to Croatia on the basis of our experience on Brac.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view towards the back of the hotel.

Hotel Kastil is in one of the oldest stonehouses right in the center of Bol, so the location is great with a fantastic view overlooking the harbour, the strait between Brac and Hvar and the promenade. So everything should be good, but the back side of this location is that it's VERY noisy until around 2 a.m. in the morning with loud music from the bar next to the hotel. Further more we were very dissapointed with the interior of the hotel. The hotel has be renovated at some stage, but it's absolutely anonymous - you could be any where in the world in a low budget hotel if you don't open the shutters and see the view - what a shame and what a failure! The rooms are extremly basic and small and not very cosy. Further more there is not place where you can dry your bath towel after a day at the beach unles you have one of the few rooms with a balcony. Hotel Kastil is poor value for money - I would not recommend anyone to stay there - location or not.

This hotel was nice. It was right on the harbour and the catamaran gets in right beside it which is handy.
Rooms were clean and think they all have a sea view which is beautiful.
I think the noisiest bar is beside the hotel but the double glazing keeps most of the noise out.
Breakfast is nice and substantial with cereals, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs and bread with juices etc. Its lovely to eat it on the terrace.
Its reasonably priced compared to similar hotels.

We spent two nights here. The room itself was nothing special but was clean and functional with a nice shower. We appreciated the double glazed windows which meant we could shut out all the night time noise. The location was excellent, right in the middle of the action with lovely views. Walking distance to the beaches and the ferry and right in the middle of all the restaurants. The terrace restaurant at Kastil itself is lovely, great food, good service, nice wine. Overall, enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room with a view. Some have balconies as well.
