The rooms were on two floors surrounding a series of courtyards in haveli style. Bedding good quality and spotlessly clean. Staff friendly and helpful when the room safe wouldn't work - they brought another one.
Breakfast options were mainly eastern, but then so were the guests.
The old city is traffic free so expect a long walk from the city gate. The hotel will bring your bags however.

Dear Martin,

Thanks very much for your review and your stay at our Palace Hotel.

The hotel is located in the South Square of the Dayan ancient city. Every Friday night we also have Naxi fire dance at the square for you to enjoy. Additionally, we have a variety of afternoon tea offerings and drinks you can enjoy at our platforms facing the square.

We hope to see you again in Lijiang and at Palace Hotel.

Best regards,
Icey

We stayed here for two nights and the location of the place is great. Easy acces to the old town. Also the hotel has a nice atmosphere, staff is friendly and we had no issues communicating in English. The place was not very clean however. On the surface the rooms looked OK but the carpeting was really dirty and also the restaurant was not very clean. Breakfast options were very limited. A good makeover would really make this place much better.

Hello Jos,

Thank you for your review.
We are glad you liked the atmosphere at the Palace Hotel.

We are in the process of upgrading the rooms and will be giving the carpet a deep clean.

For breakfast, we have a large variety of choices until 10am, before we switch to a smaller breakfast choice until 1pm. Perhaps you came after 10am? I apologize for this not being explained clearly to you.

Best regards,

Bad smell in the room. Very poor maintenance. Almost could not shower as the mixing valve was not functioning. You could choose between very hot or cold water. Location seems to be perfect, but problematic access especially during rain - very common - as cars cannot reach the spot. No English speaking staff. Problematic closet arrangement.

Hello Jacogal,

I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay at the Palace Hotel.
The hotel is built in a traditional Mu Style and mostly made of wood. For that reason, we have to keep maintaining the rooms. This time of the year is raining season for Lijiang, as a result things are very humid. We are sorry your rooms wasn't in its best quality, we shall make updates and changes based on your comment accordingly.

The old town of Lijiang is car free and since the hotel is in the middle of the old town, you do have to walk for 5 minutes to get to the hotel, which is part of the charm! However, we offer free luggage transportation service from the gate to the hotel. Our location is very convenient for you to explore the city and real Lijiang lifestyle by foot.

If you make it to Lijiang, please visit us again, we will make sure to give you our best room!

Best regards,
Customer satisfaction manager

As we were on a group trip to Yunnan the Wangfu Hotel was a beautiful surprise in Lijiang. Guest suites are in the older authentic style of the hotel but has new fittings. Near all shopping and tourist destinations. Restaurant within, a varied menu and beds were comfortable

We asked for a room in a quiet part of the hotel and we got that
Pros
Good Hotel in keeping with the theme of old Lijiang town with many Chinese themed timberwork about the place
1)Great sized room complete with fridge and lounge area
2)Bathroom was a good size and well laid out although the toilet was just inside the entry and the location of the toilet paper holder was behind you
3) We were lucky that we had a Canadian guy named Sebastian who worked in the hotel in the mornings at breakfast. He could speak English very well and attended to our issues with diligence (Got us some ICE trays for our personal us while at the hotel (much better than the first attempt by hotel staff (Pill boxes)) He was a great Asset to the hotel and recommend any English Guest Make his aquaintance as he was very helpful
4) The hotel was well laid out with plenty of rooms and good breakfast area, either inside or out on a patio and a good variety of food to eat (My Favourite was the Omlette ) and also a few court yards in the complex , on which put on free tea and coffee in the afternoons along with some fruit

Cons
1) The hotel had no ice making facilities so no ice was available toy the room ,
2) We found a very private Balcony off the bathroom, too bad it didn't have any table and chairs for us to sit there
3) While we had the peace and quiet of one of the end rooms , it took a long time for the hot water to reach us approx 4 minutes full blast (found that out by discussing again with Sebastian )
4) For this caliber of hotel , self rated at 4 star some of the offerings are a bit light on
5) The front desk staff couldn't speak English, which was a bit disappointing , but i was fortunate that my partner was fluent in Chinese language

Room tip: If you are out for some peace and Quiet ask for Room A 201

Dear Gazzoo007,
Thank you for your review!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at the Wangfu Hotel and that I could be of assistance!

We have been working on the balcony of room A201 in the last few days, we've repainted the walls and pruned the wines. In the next couple of days we will fix the railing, add some chair and it should be ready to go!
We will discuss on how to make sure we can have some ice ready in the future.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in China, and all the best!
If you make it to Lijiang again, send me an email: maplepalacehotel@hotmail.com!
